I can't hold back anymore. Who else has seen the semi-live leopard bowhunt on bowsite.com. Pat Lefemine just collected the #3 SCI leopard between 8/24-8/25. The intresting part was that this died-in-the-wool trad bowhunter used a #60 pound BowTech Justice VFT compound bow.
His reasons were good though. A wounded leopard is considered the most dangerous of the big 5, the situations called for precise shooting, and the Zim Gov't probably looks down on wounded animals. What I want to know is, what does everyone think of this, and if you were in a similar situation, who you follow your heart or your brain on what to shoot.

I believe that he did the ethical thing, and good for him on a beautiful cat!
With that being said, I would rather of seen him shooting a stickbow.
As for me, I would like to think that I would have used my longbow, but I can't honestly say since I have never tried to shoot in the same type of condition.
Cheers,
Donavan

Yes thats a hard one to answer. Paying the cash that he did for the hunt one would have to go with the best option/best shooting bow for him at the time.
I will never hunt a leopard and I do not own a Compound so if I did have the chance I'd shoot what bow i was happy with.
Just my .2cents worth.

Leopard have always fascinated me and I would dearly like to hunt them, but I wouldn't shoot a compound just to do it. If I compromised my desires to do that, I might just as well use a rifle. Rick

I agree guys. In Pats situation, though, I think I could be MORE accurate with a stickbow. I mean, I think its easier to pick a spot on a leopard (no pun intended) then aim with a pin and even more constricting peep when all your looking at is the cat bathed in a small red light. And wouldn't it be hard to see a fiber optic pin in those situations. But, like everything, it always comes down to ethics, I guess.

Oh yeah, by the way, the day after taking his leopard, Pat shot a gemsbok with his compound (he first planned on using a Black Widow X recurve at 64 pounds for plains game after he took a cat). So, Has this hard-core trad shooter moved to the DARK SIDE?

Guys,
No way can I let this thread continue. This is not the way we intended the site to be used. We will not allow anyone to 'judge' others based on legal personal decisions. We will not allow comments to start a 'site war', or pit people against one another.
Also, since it was a compound kill, then it would also be off topic for Trad Gang.
Sorry, its nothing personal....we just gotta stick to our policy. The ONLY agenda Trad Gang has is to promote Traditional Bowhunting...in a positive manner.
Thanks,
