I don't think it's done much anymore. Especially with the use of helicopters nowadays to gather cattle. There's just not a lot of places for them to hide anymore, IMO. I haven't heard of anyone doing it other than the Burnham brothers and some mention of it in J Frank Dobie books.

We do it in Australia and in my book, they are probably one of the most underated big game animals in the world.

There was at least one TX rancher who had imported the Asian water buffs and was booking hunts for them. Perhaps there are still a couple scrub bull hunts lurking as well. Cheaper than a helo!

I've thought about this too, some of those West TX ranches are so huge I would think there are some feral cattle out there - sure would be fun.

Here are a couple of links to TX ranches for those interested in buff here in the states. Doubt it would recreate Africa or even the northern territory of Australia but you could keep the meat.
