I stuck a post over on PowWow, but though I'd put it on DG too. A new article that has all I know to date about momentum, kinetic energy and arrow penetration in real tissues has been posted on the Australian Bowhunters Association's web site.
It's a long article (20 pages) so elected no to seperate it into parts and publish in the magazines. It is in a down-loadable, read only, PDF file. If interested go to: http://www.bowhunters.org.au/ and follow the links.

Ed,
that article is excellent and very conclusive.
However, I got the newest Acrobat Reader but page 7 and 10 only come up partially with different error messages showin up.
I know that most other fellas have the same problem, so probably the pdf file should get revamped somehow.
Thanks for everything
Markus

It works fine with 5.0.......O.L.

Sorry, still doesn't work for me.
At 5.0 the file won't open at all, at 5.05 it opens but I got as the same trouble as at version 7.0.
Same at 6.0.
-
I just opened with 5.0.5 and got an error on page 7....not sure what the deal is...i am not that sophisticated with computers...says something about too few operands????
-
I can't open it at all..Glenn...

I can't open it.

Hello All,
I'm trying to figure out the problem. I've opened this on Adobe Acrobat 4, 5, 6 and 7, with no problems; but just tried twice on Adobe Reader 5 and Reader 7, and got the error messages as reported above.
Please tell me what programs are having the problems; are they all Adobe Reader programs, or is anyone having trouble with Adobe Acrobat too?
I'm anything but a computuer expert! I'm not sure if the problem is in what I sent the site manager or if it is in the way it was put on the web site; actually, no idea what the heck is wrong.
I'll have to work with them 'remote' from here in NZ for a few weeks, but if WE can figure out what we think MIGHT be wrong, I'll try to get someone to work on correcting it!
Thanks,
Ed

Are all the problems (except for Glenn's) with just pages 7 and 10? Those are the onlt two I could not open on Reader. If all else fails, I'll post a copy of those two pages on here.
Have promised an 'exclusive' oeriod to the ABA, so it will be a while before I can send a copy of the entire document to the Gang for posting.
Glenn. I'll get you covered. Check for a PM.

I just tried again and could not open it. I believe that we have adobe 6 here. I still get the file damaged message. I have decide to go buy a much bigger hammer.
-
I could not open the file at all with Adobe Reader 5.0 on windows 98. I upgraded to 6, and then to 7. With 6 and 7 (Reader), I can open it, but cannot read pages 7 and 10.
Same symptoms on Windows 2000 with Reader. I will try opening it in Acrobat 4.0 tonight.
All Windows and Reader are American English versions.
Windows 2000 has latest patches and service packs.
-
O.L., which operating system are you using? Do you have Reader, or the full Acrobat (can you make your own PDFs)?
-
I am on XP, maybe that is the problem.
-
be patient lads please.
Appears it could be due to the various font types Ed used. I'm not an expert but asked the people who publish our magazine.
Apparently I'll have to go through it and change to a 'friendly' font. Anyway, that's what I understand it to be...will try it and see.
Right in the middle of closing up this issue - have asked Ed to have a go at it, otherwise I'll get to it early next week.
Sorry for the hassle...but it'll be worth the wait - Ed's actually written it so even I can understand all that 'techno talk'.

It's asking me for a password in order to view it.

Dang, this is the most boring thread I've ever read here!

lol Rick.

Hello All,
I've reformated a copy and made a new PDF file. Tried it on three programs here; one Acrobat and two versions of Reader. Worked on them. Just now sent it over to Cher. She will have to test it. If it seems to work she will have to forward it onto the ABA web site manager and have the old PDF replaced.
My apologies to all who are having trouble. Computers are far from my area of expertise! I'm still a two finger typist!!!

No reason to apologize Dr. Ashby, you've just thrown several of us into mild cases of psychosis tryng to get at that report. :D
Seriously, thank you very much for the effort of trying to make thsi available to all of us that have been unable to read the report. It is certainly appreciated and I hope and look foward to reading it soon.
-
Thanks for the effort.
The new article is up now.
Unfortunately it's page 4 causing trouble now but we can take the information from the previous pdf.

I guess that about squarshes the whole wheelie bow and high KE with light arra argument.
Great report Dr. Ashby, thanks for the tremendous effort to compile such comprehensive data. Not to mention explaining it so it doesn't cause a flare up in my dumasitis.
