Title: hog dimensions
Post by: beyondmyken on February 04, 2006, 08:56:00 PM
How far off the ground is a hog's belly if 100 lbs-200lbs?  What would his height from belly to top of shoulder be?  I understand the vitals are more forward that a deer and the spine is lower that the top of its back.  Thanks in advance.

It can vary...but the McKenzie black boar target is about the size of a 175 lb pig and the height is just about anatomically correct..they could have a little lower sway to the belly depending on how well they're eating...but that target is pretty lifelike in its dimensions

He ya go. Another MAIN thing to remember the vitals are very LOW also...In other words at dead center lung on a whitetail would be high lung on a hog...Good Luck...Bacote...

I don't have access to a McKenzie right now.  How many inches off the ground would that be?

at the lowest point between the front and back legs- maybe 8-9 inches to the bottom of the belly. The top of the back may be 24-30 inches high depending on the size of the pig except on a real bruiser.

I think hogs with a lot of Russian or European strain in them would average bigger than the hogs I see on the east coast..which are descendants of Spanish pigs dropped off on our coastline in the 1600's and domestic breeder pigs that have gotten loose or been turned loose and mixed with the Spanish hogs.
