Don't know if this is the right spot or not, but I'm looking for a good spring bear hunt to take my 20 yr. old son on. Neither of us have hunted bear, but are avid whitetail bowhunters. He can only go in June because of college so I know very few states and select provinces have seasons at this time period. Idaho?, Alberta?, B.C.? Open to suggestions, as those that I've spoken with at sportshows are mostly gunhunter guides. Any info would surely be appreciated.

It depends where you live, how much money you want to spend, and what you want out of a bear. I love to hunt bears, but I've never went on a guided hunt. So my information isn't as valuable as some others.
I've hunted bears in Alaska 5 years, Idaho 2 years, and Montana 2 years.
If I could go anywhere, I would go to Alberta or B.C. Idaho isn't too bad, but the majority of the bears aren't large. The prices in Idaho are a lot cheaper.
If your looking for color, and size, check out the Peace River area in Alberta. I've heard there are some big bears there and a guy has a good chance for a color phase? I hope this helps.

You can send me a mail if BC is interesting to you. I had a cancellation and could do it in June.

Have a look at ryk.ca, his contact information is there, I am not sure if he will be hunting into June this year or not, e-mail him to find out. He likes the father-son team thing. Hunts off of the Athabasca River in Nothern Alberta, the season is open until June 15th.

I'm headed to Alberta with Ryk in late May this year. I think we are his last group but he might have changed plans since we booked. He does indeed take pride in doing father-son hunts and disabled hunts as well.
