Most of the Tennesse ranches offer 175 - 200 lbs Razorback or Russian hogs. Does anyone have pics either live or taken of what one would expect from these places? ,, Thanks,, Frank

This isn't from TN, but I recently took a nice Razorback that weighed 205 lbs... He was actually very run down from chasing sows and fighting and the owners said he should really be in the 350 - 375 lb range... But, as is he was 205 lbs.

There was another nice Razorback taken on the same trip that was 170 lb, healthy but still had very little fat on him either though. Here is a pic of him...

So, given the Razorback or Russian was a bit healthier and had a bit more meat on his bones along with a bit of fat, he might be a bit smaller. But, this will give you an estimate as to what you would be looking at when it is time to drop the string. I don't know about the TN Boars, but I know these have a very dominant presence and things could get real dicey in a hurry if they pushed the envelope!
The one I shot was running with two others that were very similar to the one Danny shot, and when mine went down they stomped a mudhole in him for about a minute. Reminded me of Turkey hunting when you drop a Tom out of a group, they all jump in and beat the tar out of their fallen brother.
Hope this helps...

Hit 'em tight on the shoulder were the leg joins the chest. That is heart/lung and they all go down quick. My biggest was 175 but he went 15 yards and called it quits. Had a 60# sow that I hit a bit far back like a deer and she went 25 yards.

I weigh in around 200lbs. This one beat me by 25lbs...California feral hog.

[I'm standing NEXT to it not behind you you can tell the true scale

Shoot lower than you would on a deer. A shot that would double lung and have a short trail on a deer will lose you a hog. Shoot for the lower third of the chest.

beachbowhunter, where in California were you? I am still thinking of going to Lake Sonoma where you tould me. If you were there I would like to know how everything went. Thanks
-
Jesse, I havent gone to Lake Sonoma yet. Maybe someday but it is a haul from San Diego. I go to a private ranch in Coalinga and another in Tehachapi from time to time. Unfortunately, public hunting land for hogs is very, very limited in CA.

I'm glad this thread came up because I will be going on a hog hunt in March and I wasn't sure how big a 200# hog was. They are pretty good sized.
-
200# is easier to hit than 30#. All the info about is good.

Here is a wild ferral boar I shot in northern Michigan, he tiped the scale at 725lbs! At the time I weighed in at 310 pounds.

that is a good looking scrofa scrofa Black Gold.
The biggest I ever killed everyone thought was just over 200 well it took 3 guys to get him on the meat pole and he made 170 pounds of boned out(except for the hams) meat. From my calculations a hog that makes that much boned and trimmed meat is WELL over 300.
Mine had a full but short black coat, My biggest regret in my hog hunting carreer is that his head was stolen from the taxidermist. He had an enormous head and full almost damage free ears and 3 inch cutters(above the gum line) and whetters over 2".
The average hog I killed in California was 75 pounds. Grillers I called them. I could have killed some brutes out there but I was more interested in the good eating size ones.
