Well let me see young Samquanch...I have seen a fisher from 2 feet away when it ran up the tree I was in. Kinda freaked me out for a second, he checked me out and ran over my shoulder and up the tree.

Really, in a field book that I have at home, says that Fishers are extremely dangerous animals and will usually try to take on very large animals even though despite its size it usually manages to overcome the larger foe, it has been known to even take down some bears. Its you were not attacked.

I've seen wolves, coyotes, fox, fisher, badger, bears (when I was hunting area that dont have them, right) Seen a coyote kill a deer (all I can say is WOW)and I shot at the coyotes missed but got a few with the wheels

I shot what I still belive to be the first feral Mireno Ram with a bow in New Zealand, while I was deer stalking.
The feral cattle I've been chasing the last few years I discovered while deer stalking.
The first time I came across them,I departed for another part of the range,,,,fast.
The second time I was carrying a brand new 70lb longbow and was hunting them intentsionly.
I've also come across pigs, feral goats, feral cats and feral dogs while deer stalking.
In Australia I shot my first fox while rabbit hunting,it was also in Australia where I came across the dogs,,,,not nice people.

Thats awesome John, but could you please tell me the difference between an animal that is feral, and an animal that is not? what does it mean??? and good story about the fox.

a "feral" Jess, is an animal that was once tame or came from a domestic background.
We have feral cats and dogs around here.
Pretty wild stuff though.

I dont understand, would that not put the animal being hunted or tracked at a great disadvantages seeing that it was once domesticated??

No , cause some of the animals, Feral hogs for instance have been wild since the Spaniards were here, some escaped from a farm and bred in the wild for 100 years + now.
Cats for example are condsidered feral after they have been living away from being domestic influences for a year or so.
Some feral animals are born and die in the wild.
It only means that they came from domestic stock at one point or another.

I got a nice male bobcat while deer hunting this past fall. This was the third I have seen on that farm over the years. Shot a deer that day as well. Mike

Messin, when we say feral in NZ,were talking about an animal that is not normaly considered a game animal.
In the case of goats, dogs, cattle, they've never had any domestic contact with humans themselves, they,ve simply desended from animals gone wild.
The cattle I hunt were the result of farmers walking off the land during the depression after WW1,so their their close to 80 years wild.
Cheers.

Thats pretty sweet Big Mike, never seen a bobcat before, about how big was the one you got?
and John 57 you are referring to New Zealand? or?? becuase I know that the terrain there is very mountainous.??

I have heard about feral bulls charging people before. I would be tempted to carry a handgun if I were in an area with very many of them.

We gave the feral(scrub bulls) a lot of respect when hunting them in Australia. One was killed with a rifle on my friends station and when they boiled the skull they found FIVE .44 caliber slugs all healed over. He told his brother on the adjoining station about it and he said, "oh, thats the bostard that tried to kill my horse"! He was out riding when it charged him and he shot it five times with his .44 magnum over the back of the horse, when that didn't stop it he shot it in the foot with his last bullet and it stopped!
If you look "feral" up in the dictionary it means "wild", so a feral cat, dog, cattle, pig etc, is just a wild version of a domesticated animal.

My cat was 37 lbs. Mike

2nd hand story:
A guy called me and said that he was hunting in Alaska and was glassing a tree line when he saw a large dark object moving in the snow...Said he thought it was a bear, but after further investigation realized it was a large wild boar.....That would have been neat to see up there!
