Here is a short clip of my bear hunt in Sask. The boar was 13 years old and was 400 lb.

Nice bear, Anaconda. Wilderness Camp, is that what you called the place?
-
Very nice job. Congratulations and nice video clip.

Yeah it is a place in Carrot River Sask. called Walter's Wilderness Camp Roger Rothaar started the camp years ago. They promote trad archery and really cater to us as far as stands and shots etc. I have been a couple of times and never not killed a p&y and have seen an avg. of 10 -11 different bears every night at different stand locations. I am going back in 08. I know the numbers seem high but I seen 53 different bears the year before taking this great bear, I hunted six days and killed that bear on night six last and final day. The big bear in the video I took the second day and hence only seen 5 others, the night before and he was the third the night I took him. If you are looking for a class bear hunt I could only say you have to go to believe it.
-
I second that area for black bears. Hunted that region in '05 and shot the 22nd one I saw. Just missed making Boone & Crocket. Unbelievable hunting. Coincidentally, the outfitter I used lives in Carrot River and said he guided Rothaar years ago.

That was some of the best self film footage ive ever seen you did a perfect job you got everything great job. I have to ask what poundage bow and arrow weight are you shooting to have that arrow blow through that bear?
-
I actually was shooting a 70 lb. bow on this hunt and the arrow (I will deny this if asked again) was a reallly heavy carbon, yeah that is right I lost a friendly wager to a friend and the deal was I had to shoot his carbons on my bear hunt. They did fine but I am a die hard wood guy, mostly laminated birch is what I usually shoot. The broadhead was of course a snuffer.
-
Awesome video, loved seeing that arrow disappear. Going on my first bear hunt in September. Can't wait. Do they have a website, that is the outfitter with whom you hunted?

The website is waltershunt.com he runs one awesome camp and tell them Quintin said hi.
-
I just watched the kill shot 2 more times you absolutely smoked him. Again congrats id like to chase a bear with stick and string.
-
Excellent footage. How far away was the wolf from the bait when the bear came in?
-
He was actually on the bait, but I had not been in stand for no more than 5 min. and had not gotten the camera set up yet so I did not get much of him filmed but he was actually eating right out of the beaver barrel for a short time but spooked when trying to get camera setup and stayed about 15 to 30 yards out the rest of the time until the bear showed up.
-
I'm not sure about Saskatchewan, but here in Manitoba, resident hunters can take one wolf per year as long as it is done while holding an valid big game tag during the corresponding season. Would love to get one with a longbow - but they are extremely elusive creatures.
That bear sure looked to have beutiful coat. Did you have any hassle getting the meat back across the border?
-
No hassle at the border I had a full life sized mount and it will be done in May and will have no trouble with it either. As far as the wolf nonresidents can not shoot one in Sask.

Great job on the video, good shooting and a nice bear to boot! Thanks for posting it.

I wondered when I saw the setup if it was at Walter's....then I saw the lower posts. Nice video!
Walter's is a great place. I haven't been up there for quite a few years, and I'm sure the operation is smooth. I'm sure the days are gone of giving the kids (me, Jared, and Dwayne) some frozen beavers and an axe to make bait every couple of days. Seemed Jared and Dwayne got scarce whenever the frozen beavers came out and I was the one stuck chopping them up! I can guarantee the stuff that flies off of frozen beavers when you chop them up turns nasty when it melts.
Brings back some great memories. We built all the bridges back into the Wildcat hills the first year he got the area. Jared and myself killed the first bears back there on the same night (I think it was '91). Something like 22 miles from the road to the bait I was setting. Dad was sitting with me and I'll never forget the "LOUD" whisper of "Shoot 'im, shoot 'im!" from the Old Man when my bear was 7 yards away behind a bush. That will get you rattled up!
Give my best to the Charko's!
Ryan
