Hi,
Do you have some reccomendations for outfitters/agents in Australia? Might as well be interested in New Zeland.
Thanks.
-
Bill Baker would be the guy in Australia although he is dealing with soome stuff right now. Alan Kidner was just hunting in NZ and could provide you with info about that hunt and also Australia as he lives there. Joseph

What do you want to hunt?
-
Buffalo and wild boar. If available goats, deer, schrub bulls.
-
Bushman, I just sent you a pm. The place I go has buffalo, pigs and scrub bulls and you will most likely see all everyday. For the most part you need to travel a ways to get to deer or goats, but it is certainly possible.
-
Rick,
Would you please PM me the info on where you go in Australia.
Thanks
Don Slimmer

Done!

Check with Dave Stinson (huntit). He was trying to put together a buffalo/hog combo trip for 2008. Not sure if he has a full group yet or not. I know he is at Comptons for the weekend so won't be on here until after that.

Bill Baker is highly regarded here in Australia for good reason. Check him out at www.bowhuntsafaris.com (http://www.bowhuntsafaris.com) plenty of Tradgangers have hunted with him.
Also worth a look is Mick Baker at
www.trophybowhunts.com.au (http://www.trophybowhunts.com.au)
He shoots a recurve and is becoming a popular outfitter aswell.
Cheers,
Memo

I have hunted with Andrew Mackay three times now and taken two big Buffalo bulls. I don't even know how many pigs I have taken, since I don't keep a diary.
Fishing with fly rod for Barramundi is superb, with the chance to take some really big ones. You can fish the river and still be hunting at the same time.
I have never seen bird life like there is there, either.
Andrew is one of two men on this planet whom I know that I would completely trust backing me up on Buffalo! He is a phenominal guide and one of the funniest guys I have met in years.
His email address is [email protected] I will be going back with him again!
Too Short

I just came back from a succesful buffalo hunt near Darwin guided by Andrew (the same person Too Short is talking about) and it was a great place to go.
I shot an big old bull and had several encounters before doing that. I totally agree on Too Shorts description of Andrew.
-
Torben, You need to tell us about your hunt and how the DAS performed.
-
Congrats with your bull Torben!
I just got a reply from Andrew. This is his website: www.australianoutfitters.net (http://www.australianoutfitters.net)
-
I hunted with Andrew last year and killed a big bull. I completly agree with Torben and Too Short. He is the best guild (of any kind) I have ever had the pleasure of hunting with. He goes non stop to make sure you have a great experience.
-
Thanks for the input guys. I have just sent the deposit for a 10 day hunt with Andrew in July next year:-)
-
Jan, you will have an awesome time! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. When are you going?
-
Rick,
This will be my very first trip to Australia so all information is highly appreceiated. The hunt will likely be in the middle of July. I will try to add a couple of days before and after the hunt to do som sightseeing as well.
-
Jan I would. I like Darwin and there is quite a bit more not far away. Crocidilus park, Kakadu park, wildlife park, fishing, souvenir shopping. July is a good time to go, you'll see lots of buffalo and the weather will be at its coolest.
-
But if you want to get the whole "Fred Bear" experience, and hunt water buffalo like he did in Brazil, come in January! (I'm kidding!)
-
Ben, I was there in April, during "the big flood" in Katherine. I believe I would pass on that again! Jan, you could also stop in Katherine on the way back to show Ben your hugh buffalo horns!
-
Hehe. We have a saying here; dont sell the hide until you have shot the bear.
-
Just returned from a hunt with Micheal Baker of "trophy bowhunts australia" had an awesome hunt, and realy enjoyed hunting with Micheal and Steve, realy great guys and makes such as nice change to hunt with a down to earth guide that is not the "ego driven know it all", like many guides iv spent time with. highly recomend you look them up!
-
Just back from Australia - hunting buffalo with Andrew.
Thanks to Rick and others for input & tips. I had a great time time and got a very nice old bull. A special thanks to Too Short - I borrowed your treestand to shoot a small buff for the kitchen :-)
I have to admit I took the buffalos with a compound bow since I only shoot tradbows in the 50-pound range.
-
Bushman, good on ya mate! Any photos?
-
I'll see if I can post some later, but since I didnt hunt with a tradbow I did not want to make too much of it on this forum.
-
Congratulations, but you cannot post pics of kills made with other than traditional equipment.
