im going to go black bear hunting next year and i would like to know if i should shoot 2 blade or 3 blade with my 5o pound

I haven't hunted bear but I was told that you should use three blades.Bears have so much hair and fat that the wound may close up quickly with two blades.But remember I've don't have any experience hunting bear.

i used 175 razorcaps this year last year, fairly large tree blade. passed through quartering away and through the shoulder blade, he went down in 15 yards. the year before i used stos 2 blade full pass through, down in 20 yards. both shots from 20 to 25. niether left any blood on the ground.

Bears have long hair (4") and can cover some ground quickly when hit so you probably wont get good blood right away. Low exit hole helps. Shot placement is important. If you hit both lungs the bear will die in about 10 seconds (beneath you to about 100 yards away). Pay attention(Look/Listen) after the shot. You may get the death moan. If you are unsure and you get a second chance "Take It". Two, three, four bladed broadheads will all work great as long as they are cut-on-contact, tuned and razor sharp. My arrows are 600 grain carbon with wensel woodsman 150 3 bladed and 800 grain tapered graphite Griz Stiks with WW broadheads. I would also use Montec G-5 3-bladed or any of the two blades out there. I have video of my black bear coming up my tree just before I wacked him at 20 yrds with my 61# Widow(double lung passthrough/went 60 yards and dropped like a sack of S#$T!!).
**Black bear vitals are a little futher back 2-3 inches)than deer so dont aim to close to the shoulder. There is a guy that has a skinned/frozen standing bear picture that shows the exact location of vitals. I will try to find it again and give it to you. long cedar shafts about 30 inches long work best for me. and i can get my zwikeys razor sharp and i think my arrows are about 645 grains would that work or should i try out 3 blades

that is more that enough they are thinskined and they dont have much fat in the spring you should have full passthrough if you are going 180 or so if they fly well dont mess with it.

I have shot a ton of bears and I use the woodsmans Three blades for sure, Like it was said before the bears have long hair and it absorbs alot of blood before you will get a blood trail. Just be mindful of the shot do not rush it and make the best shot you can. Waiting for the best shot possible is what makes a good hunter. Remenber it takes a better hunter to let the amimal walk away than to take a crappy shot. Good luck.

I am scheduled for a black bear hunt in May and was wondering what the minimum draw weight and broadhead weight that I can use for black bear.

I've shot 6 so far with 5 making it less than 50 yards. All were shot with 2 blade broadheads from bows of 47-52 pounds. At 50 pounds, I would stick with a good sharp 2 blade broadhead. If you get good penetration with a double lung, they won't usually go over 40 yards. However, a one lunged bear can run forever. In shooting from a tree, full penetration will give you a very good blood trail and is more important than a big hole. The 6th bear I shot was not recovered. It was my first hunt and the outfitter had me 25ft up a tree. The bear was hit high in the near lung. However, the steep angle caused me to hit the brisket. With no bottom hole, I had no blood trail. The bear ran into a very thick beaver swamp and was not found until after I left. Stay around 12-14 ft up and take only side or quartering away shots. Good luck and hunt safe.

The pictures don't do it justice either. It was unbelievable. A lot had to do with the fact that the arrow exited through the sternum after going through the heart and it pumped out like oil out of an oil pan.

I've seen bears hit with both two blade and three blade broadheads and not be recovered. In my experience a crazy sharp two blade (Zwickey in my case) will do the job evertime.
SHOT PLACEMENT is the most important factor on a bear. Single lung hit bears simply will NOT be recovered. I've seen too many unrecovered bears both with trad gear and the heaviest, modern wiz bang compound bows made. I think new bear hunters get in a hurry or thier knees start to knock. Take your time and do it right.
Broadside or slight quartering only. Mid body 8" circle behind the shoulder will kill every bear walking the earth.
Hit them correctly and they will not go far.
Two blade only for me.

I have taken many bears and they have been with a 160 gr Snuffer, no complaints here with that setup.

I agree.Stick with the 2 blade.That exit hole is very important.Your best chance at that is with the 2 blade.2 bladed Zwickeys will take any bear on the continent.As already stated,double lunged bears don't go far.Often you can see them drop.Marginally hit bears are not often recovered.It sounds like you have the right equipment.After that,it's all shot placement.Good luck.
