Well yesterday was quite the adventure! I worked till 1:30am the drove up 3 hrs north to put out my bait. Drove back home then went to work. I feel like a zombie today but it's all going to be worth it!
Here is my first crib:

This is my second crib. I plan on using a pop-up blind. I have a 15yd shot to it. the bear has to put it's head in the dead trunk to get goodies.

Thanks Tim!!! The anticipation is killing me!
It was a ton of work getting my baits in. The paths to my sites are way off the two tracks and I had to lug everything in with a deer cart. Plus, the deer flies were crazy!! I gained a ton of respect for the do-it-yourself bear hunters who don't have 4-wheelers to get their bait in. My Acheiva took a beating! LOL!
-
nice work Arwin
keep it stocked up, hope you get a big one coming in
you got a trail cam you can put overlooking the baits? give you a good idea of whats coming in and when
you'r gonna have a blast.
good luck man

Looks good. I like the second site a 15 yd shot from the ground....

Looks great and best of luck Arwin...

-
I will be following this. I can't wait to see how it unfolds. Good luck.

I was never a four wheeler fan on till I went on a bear hunt in Canada last year. To put out baits without one ...your a good man and I hpoe you have great hunts this year. Best of luck.
-
Hey Bro looking good, those deer flies don't hold a candle to the black flies when you use to hunt bear in the spring.
I know your going to whack one!
-
Black flies are nasty!!! Had a bad experience with them fishing for brook trout.
Hey, here are some pics of my bow I'm going to use. Tracey Balowski did some wonderful artwork on the riser. Good mojo!

When is bear season in mich. And what baits are you using.Nice bow.
-
Had a great time running those baits with you sunday Arwin. I can't wait till next week to go up and see the trail Camera pictures.
-
I CANNOT WAIT EITHER!!!!!!!!! I was surprised by how far those logs were thrown off the bait. Couldn't have been too small a bear?
Ben, our season starts at the end of Sept and runs into October. The hunts are different according to what area and date you apply for.
I'm using some grease, meats, sweets and treats. :bigsmyl:
No plastic barrels or wrappers of any sort can be left out when baiting. I like it this way, cover everything with logs. You can chase them with dogs if you wish but it's not my cup of tea. (no dog debates please, I don't wanna get off track here). Look up www.mi.gov/dnr (http://www.mi.gov/dnr)

Arwin: my son and I just got back from northern Ontario (Temagami). Although we didn't take a bear (saw a cub and sow), six were shot (all compound hunters...we were the only trad shooters in camp. Biggest bear was an honest 400 lbs.
Lot's of black flies and mosquitoes...a Thermacell is a must!
The baits being hit hardest had the sweets...raspberry jam/sugar concoction, donuts, molasses.
They were coming in at any time of the day.
Good luck!

With a bow that looks like that how can you miss???
-
LOL! No doubt Rob!!
Hey, here is a teaser:

Yes sir!!! :bigsmyl: It's been alot of work getting the bears fed but very enjoyable. Thankfully I've had great friends helping out getting the baits run up there. :notworthy: This will be a bear hunt shared by many hands. ;)

Looks like a good start shoot straight.

:campfire: Four days! There has to be an update soon. I can hardly wait.

Sad to say no bears guys. I had been sabotaged by some other hunters ia a stolen trail cam chip and fuel dumped on my bait.
My other good spot was moved in on the last week before season. Two other hunters within 200yds of my bait. Makes it hard to get a bear with so much food around.
The family and I did have fun together though, which was much needed. My wife heard her first yote and the kids saw their first porcupine. The weather was perfect and Gods creation was perfect. I came away a little miffed about the bear thing but feeling good about the time afield.
-
I am very sorry to hear about this. It is hard to believe other hunters would do that stuff. I guess they figure they own the place or something. Makes you wish you had a second well hidden trail cam to catch them. Not much you can do about other hunters in the same area and 200 yd. is fair, I guess.
Families are great. They make the difficult time of life much easier. I hope the rest of your season goes better. Venison is way better anyway.
-
I swear, sometimes (actually more and more) I hate Michigan. Too many people and WAY too many of them are scumbags. Sorry to hear about the slobs sabotaging you. I keep putting in for a point every year hoping someday I can find a spot where I do not have to deal with the type of people that do these despicable things.
-
Where abouts were you set up Arwin? What town?
-
It is not just MI believe me....
-
No, it's not just Mich. They are everywere, sadly. And I'm sure they call themselves SPORTSMEN ?

What a shame. I followed this thread and expected to see a dead bear picture and instead I see that some low life stole the camera and sabatoged the bait. Boy was I disappointed.
One thing I learned in 55 years is a fact of nature, in that was goes around comes around! They will get theirs one day.
-
Makes me sick to my stomach.... no it makes me angry to even read that "hunters" did that to your spot. What kind of jackass would do that!
Makes me have bad thoughts and evil urges. WIll leave it at that.
-
At first I would think that it was anti-hunters, but then it dawned on me--the anti-hunting crowd wouldn't venture that far into the woods!
We have our "trash" down here in Georgia as well.
Glad to hear you had a good time we your family anyway.

That really sucks! I just can't figure out some people. I had my treestand strap cut this year on the opposite side of the stand so i couldn't see it. I guess the person thought i would step onto the stand and fall. It just amazes me that someone would wantto kill or hurt someone for a hunting spot.
-
kinda sux about the bears but glad you and the family has=d some fun outdoors ....
next time eh !!!
