Title: Outfitters and guides for Australia
Post by: Margly on December 29, 2009, 03:56:00 AM
Hi!
I`ve been reading a lot of the stories about hunting in Australia, and now I really wanna go for a hunt  :D
But does anybody have a link to a recommended outfitter or an area where it is possible to hire a guide?

What are the ca. costs for a 10-14 days hunt?

Really looking for a outfitter that has the "real thing" and not something where you "have to dress for dinner" (if you know what i mean)  :campfire:

PM Horne Shooter on this site.  He has been and is a good friend to the PH "Andrew"  that runs the service.  Paul told me that is the only hunt and he has been on (he has been on a bunch) where he didn't want it to end.  Said it was a fabulous experience.

Garry (Claw)Turner
Has been hunting animals with bow and live catching since the 70’s. He and his father before him have been making guns and involved in eradication of feral animals for longer than any other in the country. Having only just caught up with him I know his shoulder gives him grief and his fingers are set in a permanent string pulling position from rheumatism so although he still uses his bow most of his eradication work is done on foot with gun. Chopper access, which he dislikes, as its too brief, is $4-500/hr so 4x4 and foot are more appropriate. He is currently based in Mareeba in Far North Queensland and has access to most of the areas up through the Cape and many of the areas across the top end N.T. to W.A. border and a further 2 stations there in the Kimberley’s. He is considering taking one other (only) with him on his 7-10 day excursions.
It’s a big place and seasonal considerations dictate relative times on the ground. These are the things u would need to discuss with him. Be mindful when u call of the time difference and too that often he may be out of communication range for several days, perhaps text till he responds. Persevere as he is a straight talker and one of the country’s best bushmen. His contact when dialing here is (Country code) - (Number)  61-429173141

it will depend on what you want to hunt. if it's pigs and buffalo then you want to hunt the northern territory.
i know that a guided rifle hunt for buff for 5 day's will cost around $6,000+ so you would be better off trying to get onto ben kleinig or ozy clint they both live in good buff country and just ask if they would take you out hunting.

Margly ...
lots of the local lads have used guides round the far north and the one name that is always spoken of well is Mick Baker  from Trophybowhunts. i have hunted up there before a few times but that was always self guided [ i did three months up there 10 years ago ]  and it takes a lot of time and effort and ends just as costly . Mick's reputation is really good and some of my hunting partners [ experienced blokes who know whats what] swear by him .
... i've never met Andy face to face but we have crossed paths quite a few times here and elsewhere ... he seems a generous stand up guy ... but  he has some funny ideas about whose country has the best   rugby team  !!! but i think between him and Mick you'd be in good hands .

Hi Ben!
Thanks for the info
Both Mick and Andy have given me a lot of good info, and hopefully I will be joining them in a hunt in 2011.
