I have narrowed my outfitter search to Weitas Creek Outfitters. Idaho has a spring and fall season, any advise which month is most productive. Have heard nothing but great things on the outfitter. Thanks!

I've never hunted with them but I've been visiting the bear conference on "other" site for many, many years and I know from reading posts others have made about him, you've picked the right guy to go with - he's very good with trad equipment users.
As far as spring or fall, I've read positive things about him in both seasons. My gut tells me spring would be best but spring in the mountain states can be tricky. Really couldn't tell ya. He's a good outfitter - ask him what he thinks.

I don't know of the outfitter, but can tell you I prefer hunting bears in the spring. They come in more consistently to baits, are predictable in their movements, and generally have better fur in the spring. I love to spring bear hunt in Idaho!
Have fun, Matt

i hunted them this past spring from the last two weeks of April to the middle of may with good result( two shots, two misses.) but depending on the the snow melt mid may to the end of the spring season would be a good time for the spring. but I'm no expert since this past season was my first time ever hunting bear in the short ten years of my hunting career.

Sorry to go against the grain but I like the fall in Idaho. I hunted out of Avery last time and had a blast. The huckberry crop was so thick that I believe it made up the lions share of a bears diet and made for some great meat. I was lucky and the bear I got had a beautiful coat and went give or take 275/300#s (in my avatar). Another reason I like the fall is the Grouse hunting. That's a bird that was made for a bow hunter. I also caught more Cutthroat Trout than I could count and the weather was perfect!!!!

I've hunted in Idaho a few times for bears. Always had better luck in the spring, mid Mayish.

Hi Mark;
If you are still searching for the best season I would recommend you call Ted at Raptor archery in Hood River, Or. Ted guides both seasons in Idaho, is a great guy and I,m very sure it is for your chosen outfitter. They do bag a lot of bears.
Hunt, hunt, hunt,
