Title: close topic
Post by: Ssamac on January 05, 2009, 09:36:00 PM
What's the difference between a Pearson Bows and Wing Bows? Which would be considered the better bow?  Previously we considered Pearson Mustang superior to Pearson Cougar or Puma. How would a Pearson Mustang stack up (sorry, should not use "stack") or stand up to a Wing Falcon, say both bows at 50" and 62". Appreciate your opinions on these older bows since I'm a rather newer trad shooter.

Thanks
sam

I believe the cougar was their longest running model though

Sorry, but I have to pick the Mustang for the better bow.

The Cougars I have had were pretty plain and nothing to write home about.

Mustangs sold for more at the time (better woods) and they continue to shoot better today.

Hey Sam,
Moderators don't get into this forum very much, they are here, but most of the time we play nice, and they leave us alone, they have bigger fish to fry than us weirdo's

I could say that except for an odd "fish" or two, moderators have very little to worry about on the Trad Gang. One of the most respectful places on the web that there is. Great guys too.

I don't. I have a couple and they are great. But I don't have a Pearson and that might be nice to have too.

Just got a Pearson Mustang, 50# @ 28 and 64" long. There is no comparison to the Wing Falcon or the Pearson Cougar. This is a smooth hard hitting bow. Has tip overlays and wood laminates on the handle. The handle looks like bird's eye walnut. Terrific accuracy.

If you can get a Mustang over a Cougar, get the Mustang every time.

That said, what would you guys recommend as a brace height?

String the bow. Take your right hand and make a fist with your thumb sticking up. Put your hand against the back of the sight window by the shelf and the string should touch the tip of you thumb. That is your starting point for your brace height. Of course the opposite hand would be used on a left handed bow. Works every time.

Wadde
that is absolutely the most terrific thing I've heard about tuning. And guess what? When I do that, I get to about a 7.5 inch brace and that's about where a recurve should be.
thanks very much
