Title: '65 Kodiak's
Post by: C Kerley on January 07, 2009, 02:20:00 PM
I sure don't mean to offend anyone if one of these bows is a fellow Tradgang'er, but....I'm only a few years into this old Bear bow thing, but what is up with the '65 Kodiak's.  I see one sell for over $800 and another won't at $750.  I wrote that off as someone running up a bid with a fool.  Now I see one at $650 and another w/in 2# won't sell at $600.  I've steadily watched bows for a few years and I don't remember any "normal" late 60's bow selling for much over $300 ever.

I don't know alot about the bidding tricks, I just throw a bid on a bow and hope for the best.  Am I missing something here?  Is someone trying to "work up" the price with their buddy to get rid of a few '65's?  Has that one $800 bow got everyone dying to have one?  I bought a '65 6 weeks ago for less than $270, maybe I've finally fallen into a good deal!

I would have to honestly say that of the Kodiaks 1959-66, the 65 is my least favorite.  It is still a nice bow, but nothing special in my book, so Trap is most likely correct.

I was looking at that one for a fishing bow   :scared:  a little rich of a price to beat up this summer in the boat.

Aah, hah!  Now I see.

You know I had always thought that had to be THE place to buy a bow, but after watching for some time wanting a '76 and not seeing one I posted on here.  I got 5 offers in two days.

This has definetely opened my eyes and makes me cautious of bidding now.

Speaking of '76's, did you see that Super K with the skins for sale here?  It was around 50# I think.  I have a 55# Super K from 76 and love it.

I'd buy that one with skins on it in a second, but there's no way I could hold it by the way I dislike snakes!  I talked to him about it, and of course if it was a yard sale bow for $50 that'd be a different story, but by the time I put the effort into taking them off (if they'd come off) I'd have to give alot less than it's really worth.  Beautiful bow though, and if it's to someones appeal a good buy also.

I watched a 76er listed as a Bear Custom TD go for several hundred.. Always makes you wonder what's going on, but it certainly doesn't mean they are worth that.

A 63 Grizzly is now over 600.00. I sold two of them for less than half that. Something fishy there.

The 1965 thugfest continues. A 42# bow just went for $585. I don't get it.

I spoke via email with S***T earlier today and he said his reason for the 65 splurge was simply sentimental and he wanted different weights to play around with.

Must have been sentimental for several folks as high as they sold.

Daryl,
Ask him if he needs a 41# one, you know, just to play around with.

You know, he seems like a nice enough guy.  I believe he lost out on our mutual friends's listing to someone that wanted it a little more. I think that bow was a 42# so maybe he would be interested.

Hey if you want something bad enough and have the means to get it, I say go for it.  As long as everyone is playing fair it's all good.

I hope every bow I have is worth 10 times what I paid for them when I get too old to shoot them.

You guys should have been on E8ay 7-8 years ago when you couldn't touch a '59 Kodiak for less than $1,000! The compass Kodiaks went for big bucks back then as well because everyone thought they were so rare... ah the memories...

I've been told by several collectors that we are seeing more 59 listings now than ever before.  Would you agree with that Chuck?

It seems like there have been quite a few in the last couple of months.  I know some of those were longshot BIN listings but hey they were listings.

Bill,
I just shot the '65 Kodiak this morning and I was just kidding about selling it.  It is a sweet shooter and perfect weight to work on form in the backyard.
