Title: Potter & Macquarrie Marked Items
Post by: Wade Phillips on March 25, 2009, 10:24:00 AM
Kurt - Thanks for sending the Potter & Macquarrie ink stamped target arrow. As you can see in the photograph below, the same ink stamp pattern but slightly larger size was used on this rawhide backed bow. I've had this bow for a number of years, it is in excellent condition and has unique metal horn-nocks.

Their combined and shortened name, POMAC, is branded into many of the arrows they sold and used. The branded arrow at the bottom of the photograph, is a real treasure as it is inscribed just in front of fletching "MACQUARRIE NAA 1948 RENO" and was found with a very Rare 94 Large Barbed Tubing Ferr POMAC Broadhead that is shown on page P-14-3 of "Broadheads 1871-1971 Identification and Rarity Guide, Second Edition".

What can I send back to you for the neat little ink stamped arrow ?

Kurt - These are the only extra Sweetland foregwood shafts that I have in finished arrows. I have a few of each. These arrows are both Tom Imler's. He was an old hunting pal of Fred Bear's during the 1940s. Imler was from Arizona and killed the first legally taken animal in that state with the bow and arrow. Well respected bowman in his day, but other than a reprint of an article, not many guys know much about him today. The green arrow is unused, it has a 1964 Bear Razorhead that is mounted in a Sweetland head shrinker so it fits on the small OD of the Sweetland shaft. The well used arrow is older. On the field tip end you can see Sweetland's compression marks in the wood. Almost looks like a Microflite woven glass pattern. Neither arrow is as cool looking as your ink stamped POMAC, but to some collectors they would be desirable because they were owned by Tom Imler. As I say, these are the only two types of Sweetland arrows that I have that are extras, but have many other extra arrows. Let me know if there are any other arrows that you would rather have or that you are looking for.

Bill - There are three different factory marks on the Bitzenburger arrows in Henry's display. Two are different branded marks. The Bitzenburger arrows with decals have decals that appear to be like yours. Had to take a photograph through the display case glass, so they appear as blurred images ...

Bill - All the target arrows in the display have decals and all the hunting arrows have one of the two different brands. May just be  the ones I have picked up over the years or it may be an actual pattern. Also have some metal target arrows with the same Bitzenburger decal.

Wade, I believe the one target arrow I have around here has a stamp that starts out big and goes down in size with the letters.I find it.

Thanks for the choices guys, I'm just glad the arrows are going to people who display the vintage stuff.
Bill,
A Bitzenberger arrow would be great.

Wade,
If the Hunting arrow is offered I would love it.
