Title: Broadhead collecting?
Post by: Henry Hammer on August 01, 2009, 04:06:00 PM
I have always been intrigued by all the different styles of BH's and I have now decided that I would like to start collecting. After seeing all the pictures of different styles on here I have really been getting the itch to start finding some to make a display. I am sending my money to the ABCC on monday and was wondering what book would be a good one to get for reference to identify and find out the value of heads? Thanks..Henry

Henry, welcome to a fun hobby, you are wise to join the ABCC. its a great source for trading and buying broadheads and meeting alot of great guys. I have belonged for a few years. If you email me your address I will send you a few old heads to get you started. I live in Minnesota also. You can visit me any time if you want to check out my collection. Wade Philps should have a book to sell. Ron.

You sent your membership to Greg. Ask him about the "Best of Broadheads" books it's a set of six books, there is also a fish point master list available. Or contact me.
Wade has written books on broadheads and fishpoints, all very good from a knowledgeable person. However, there are many others who have collected over the years that have contributed large sums of knowledge also. You need to avail yourself of all of them.

Henry - If you want to start seriously collecting broadheads, I would suggest that you reconsider as it is can easily become an addictive, obsessive and very expensive hobby.

If you want to join the American Broadhead Collector's Club, (ABCC) the dues are $20 per year. You can contact the ABCC Membership Chairman, Greg Schwehr at [email protected] His old email from before his retirement is all over the Internet so you may not have the correct contact address.

If you join the ABCC, I will send you one of my old Identification Guides for free. I recently discovered some first edition proof samples so figure they should get some use.

These guys will all tell you that I have a reputation as a pretty tough negotiator so you probably will not be able to get a better price than free...

That should help get you started on the never ending road of collecting these rusted pieces of steel.

If you decide to join the ABCC, have Greg email me your mailing address and I will send you a care package that will include a book and some old broadheads for your collection.

This may give you an idea of how obsessed some broadhead collectors become. This member's license plate is ABCC...
