Title: Number on limb
Post by: dhermon85 on March 19, 2014, 10:28:00 PM
Came across a few bows, bears in particulat with a number "etched" on the limb. Any significance or reason for this?

I have seen quite a few with the number 2 etched in the wood. I believe these were sold as seconds and marked as such. Sometimes etched with an S also.

Etched on limb?

I believe all I have seen were on the riser near the serial#.

Got a pic?  What number and what model bows?

Some of the Bear Ranger bows made for schools were marked with the numbers 1 thru 6 on the limbs. These were usually decals and I can't recall the numbers being etched into the glass. These model bows were made for school archery programs and were not found in the Bear catalogs.

I would say that someone put that marking on there and in no way did it come from the factory with that marking on it. I have had bows with drivers license numbers and social security numbers etched into the glass over the years. People did that sort of thing years ago. Maybe it was the poundage or original owners birth year.
