Title: 1962 Bear "I" beam K-mag
Post by: Ken Sorg on May 28, 2014, 06:42:00 PM
The first 62 K-mag I owned was sold rosewood, just noticed today my "new too me" 62 has rosewooed on top of rosewood. Anyone seen or heard of a 62 i beam k-mag???   :dunno:

Yup, sold/traded one to a Tradgang member last winter. Nice shooting little bow. I thought I had a better picture of the I-beam itself, but it's there.

Here's a 1962 Bear Polar Zebrawood with I-beam.

I've owned a few 1962 Kodiak Magnums. It was about 50/50 between solid and I beam risers on the ones I had.

I bought the bow pictured above from Orion, the guy who got it from Ray...I would post a picture of the I beam but Jerry refinished that bow with an absolutely mesmerizing matte finish and I really doubt it would even show up in a picture...I will try after breakfast and see what I can come up with

I had a K-Mag, a few years ago I gave it to one of my Nephews.
I took a lot of Carp with that bow. I like them.   :archer:

A little show for your enjoyment...for those of you who passed on this bow for any of a number of reasons shame on you...to Ray for trading it to Jerry and Jerry for a great refinish job a huge thank you...come on people...this is Brazilian Rosewood at its finest

Wow!!!! Jerry did a fabulous job on the refinish.  I had a sneaking suspicion it would clean up nice based on the bows I've refinished.  I shot a nice doe with that bow at Shrewhaven Lodge. It's a great shooting bow and extremely quiet. I'm glad it is in the Tradgang family.

That is some good looking wood on that bow.  I have one from that year but my wood is missing the dark grain that your bow has.  Nice bow there!

I often visit the hobbithouseinc.com website to learn about various woods...it is pretty clear that although it is a true rosewood Brazilian Rosewood can often lack grain character...I am just thankful this one has the nice dark highlights that make it look so appealing...and the I beam to make it strong...bows do not have to look nice to shoot well...given a choice I will always prefer a bow that both looks nice and shoots well which this one does for me

Dave, that was a nice shooting bow for me.  The thing that I noticed different about that bow was how the bottom of the grip felt like it feel away-not a pistol grip.  It's like it almost forced me to shoot it with the web of my thumb/first finger and no heel pressure contact to speak of.

Agreed Ray...I have now gone from never even picking up a Kodiak Magnum to having shot 4 of them in the space of a couple of months...right now I have a nice 1967 that I bought for a friend and the grip on it is vastly different from the 62 yet I would bet I could shoot that bow very nicely...it is just too heavy for me at 58 pounds at 28 meaning well over 60 at my draw length...gonna be great for my buddy who only draws about 26.5...I just made a deal on a very nice 1960 Kodiak which I need for trading material...I will trade it to Florida for a very similar bow with serial number BH 668 and then I will own four 1960 Kodiaks with serial numbers BH376, BH377, BH667, and BH668, two consecutive serial number pairs...and that my friend will be the end of my 1960 Kodiak collecting...how would I ever top that

There are always Kodiak Special Deluxes to collect when one tires of the Kodiak Deluxe.

My handle on texasbowhunter.com is 60 Deluxe.  I thought that was a good one due to number of them hanging in the living room and it does have a nice ring to it.
