I met a guy that claims to have a 58" Kodiak Magnum. Claims he took it to an archery shop and was told it was worth $1400.
I asked him if it was maybe a Kodiak Hunter, but he said No, it is definitely a Kodiak Magnum.
Now I feel I know a lot about the old traditional bows, but I am the first to admit that There is a lot that I don't know ... especially about prototypes.
So ... the question is ... Has anyone ever heard of a 58" Bear Kodiak Magnum?
-
Assuming that an error has not been made in reading the info (58 was a somewhat common K-Mag weight), my entirely uninformed speculation is that the wrong silk screen was used somewhere along the way. A 58 inch K-Mag makes no sense to me, even as a prototype. What would be the point?

Anything is possible i suppose-had he been drinking?
Which is more strange-that bow; or an archery that shop would even recognize such an item let alone put a value on it.

Tell the guy with the bow to return to the bow shop that said it was worth $1400. Then tell the shop he'll be nice and let them have it for half price.
-
I would have sold it to them right away for half price...there are a lot more stories than truths out there...K Mags have always been Bears 52 inch bow

I have seen a white glass Kodiak Magnum also a 2 piece Magnum marked EXP and I have one marked as follows which I can't figure why its marked that way. Every Kodiak (http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/zepnut/DSCF6111.jpg) (http://s581.photobucket.com/user/zepnut/media/DSCF6111.jpg.html) Mag I have ever seen was 52"

No kidding! Bet it's a Kodiak Hunter or a 58# bow.

I agree with all statements above.
Bjon ... YES ... he had been drinking ... a lot.
He was talking to a guy across the table and I was really paying no attention until he asked the guy if he had ever heard of Fred Bear. Well, that did catch my attention ... so I started listening. He said that he had bought it new, had hunted with it many years, and had passed it on to his son who never used it. I asked the questions I listed above and he gave the answers listed above. I asked him if he was sure it was not a Kodiak hunter. He said he was absolutely certain it was a Kodiak Magnum.
I invited him over to see my collection if he would bring that bow for me to see. Of course there was a reason that he would not be able to.
I'm sure he was just a guy popping off to someone that did not know traditional archer equipment. He just mad the mistake of doing it with someone that did know sitting across the table.
Pretty certain he was not necessarily lying, just did not know what he was talking about.

Perfect bow to hunt unicorns with, by the sound of it.

Those are beautiful woods in the K-mag Norman has.

Go two of the new 59 Kodiaks in recently, one was marked 60" the other 64", both defiantly a 60" bow. Should have kept the one marked 64".

I would have sold it for $1400 to the archery shop and bought a custom bow.
