Title: Papa Bear's T/D...?
Post by: woodchucker on October 24, 2014, 05:08:00 PM
We all have heard that Fred prefered a 60" bow, and that he considered it to be the perfect length for a hunting bow.

Does anyone know for sure, what riser/limb combo he prefered???

Was it an "A" handle, with #3 limbs?

Or a "B" handle, with #1 limbs?

Thank You, Johnny!!!!!

Any possible idea why??? Bigger riser more stable? Shorter limbs faster? (I'm new at this T/D game,LOL)

I'm an old Grizzly guy!

Not sure why.A reason might be found in Dick Lattimers book about ol' Fred.I know he describes his hunting arrows,fletching,length,etc... May say something about why Fred preferred the B-riser with #1 limbs.

The B size riser is the bow that Fred developed for his personal use while making the prototype take downs in the years immediately preceding introduction of the TD, 1965 Shotgun latch TD, 1968 I-Beam Walnut TD, etc.

The 60" length of the B riser with #1 limbs is consistent with the length of the Kodiak recurves that he used during the 1950s to mid 1960s as well as the Super Kodiaks used after they were introduced.

The A and C risers were developed after the prototype bows as a part of his system to permit interchanging limbs and risers to put together any length or any weight bow for any use by any bowman.

Decades after its introduction, it is still regarded by many as the easiest and most versatile TD system every developed.

Wade it is good to see you posting...your expertise and wisdom are missed...I am off to shoot a moose in about a week with one of those sixty inch bows that Fred liked so much...might even do it with my lefty 1960 if my shoulder lets me

Perhaps, I should start thinking a "B" handle with #1 limbs.....

(My boys Kevin"Big Bear" & Tyler"Little Bear" always call me "Papa Bear" LMAO)

A discussion I had earlier today made me realize that I really ought to be hunting with a 64 inch Bear...that bow has some serious mojo so my Kodiak Deluxe is now in the number 1 slot...thanks for the good wished Felix...I am headed up not all that far from where you will be hunting bison
