Some while back we kept Doc AShby in our prayers for his back surgery and it did go reasonably well.
I learned today that there has been several months of new challenges, but Ed keeps a positive attitude.
I'd not gotten permission today when I chatted with him, to reveal a lot of details, but after his recovery from the spinal surgery, there were some lingering internal nerve issues...then some heart complications and some prostate stuff now has surfaced.
He's going to be in a variey of treatments and what he thought would be a short stay in TX has become a long journey through the medical hoops and a lot more to come that are goign to be quite challenging.
He's off line and no computer access these days. That doesn't mean we can't just pray him back to full health. We've seen it here often...
Prayers for his medical team and for the Great Physician to smile on our brother and return him to full health and verve and that he feels our love reaching out to him in his hotel/hospital stays for the next several months.

Anybody got a ole laptop they could loan Ed?
He won't hook up his lonely one that has all his research data on it for fear of catchin some virus or the like... I can understand his reticency. I, too, am some close to his age adn this fang-dangled things called puters kinda baffle me at times.
If we could find an internet ready laptop to loan him, that would be sweet. He's staying alone in motel rooms while he undergoes some tough treatments. I guess it's ok to mention its prostate cancer. Hope he doesn't mind. He's very positive about the outcome there where he's being treated. Just all his contact with outside world is a loaned cell phone. That kinda sucks!
If anyone has one and want to email me directly, I'll phone ole Doc and let him call you if you give a phone # and you two can work out details. He'll fuss no doubt, but it would likely be a true god-send to have him be able to do internet. Most likely available at the hotel he'll be at in today's world.

all the best Doc !

I'm sure he feels the love although he can't participate in the internet right now. Dunno if the hotel has connections, but he has his old laptop only and it's full of his research, so he doesn't use it to connect.
If anyone has an old laptop that would work on the I-net, I bet he'd be grateful for the loaner while he's undergoing the painful cancer treatments in a hotel room by himself!
-
Ben, I like your special delivery prayer there. Prayin for ya Doc Ashby! I wish I had a spare lap top to loan out.

Doc started his radiation treatments this past week, Wed I believe. He said they told him it won't get "ugly" for about 3-4 weeks...then the radiation burns will start to show and such... :(
We keep praying for someone to loan up a small internet ready computer so he might have something to take his mind off the alone-ness.
His spirits are great and he is making many plans for later fall presentations, as the docs give him high hopes for this prostate cancer treatment.
He's at a Super 9 (not super 8) hotel in El Paso, room 136 I believe. Treatments are in the AM every day for 4X days (43 I think) He'll be there a while.
If anyone wants to call his room, email me or PM me and I'll send you his phone # or google it. :)
-
I'll go ahead and post his room phone # in case anyone would like to give him a shout. His treatments are in the AM TX time...
(915) 584-3441 to the hotel switchboard.
Just ask for room 136. Course, being a danged Yankee, I can't understand a word them gals say when they answer...but I get through anyway! :) :banghead: :biglaugh:

Been trying to talk to Ed. It rings, nobody answers. Last night I got through. He says he's almost always there but when he goes for treatments in the AM from like 9-10-ish.
The folks at the desk aren't English First folks and maybe they put me through to something other'n "room 136". Dunno.
Ed says that he's starting to feel some of the radiation effects...eyes burn and he's so plumb tired he has to fight to move. He sounds chipper, though. And still gets excited talking about EFOC and arrows! :)
I'm sure he'd appreciate any calls.
-
Doc I tried calling him and they supposedly put me through to him and like you said it rings and no answer. I let it ring thinking I could leave a message and the desk picked it up again and asked which room. When I told them again they got it right and I got through to him.
-
address to send him a card??????
thanks
-
Benson, I even learned how to say 136 in Spanish as the operators are both Mexican and don't speak English too well.
I tried again today. Ed swears he's always there, but they came on and said, "he not there now."
You'd have to google Super 9 Hotel in El Paso, TX, Brad... I think I found it easy enough once.
-
Heelo everyone,
I can't thank each of you enough for the prayers.
BenBow gets a very special 'thank you'. He drove down to loan me his old laptop. It has a few keypads missing, and a temperment all its own, but I'm really pleased to have contact with the world! I'll go to Wally World to get a keyboard for it in a few days.
Doing okay but, as Dave noted, I have very little get up and go. This gives me a whole new perspective on fatigue; as bad as a 20 mile day of elephant tracking ... but without any of the fun!
Please keep those prayes coming. I really appreciate them, and I've still got a ways to go yet!

That would be "Dr Ashby" from El Paso! Nice to see you found a way to comunicate, I wish you well and my prayers will be with you.
-
Indeed, it is a joy that we see Ed amongst us once more...
God bless you big time, Benson! You, Sir...are my hero! :)
Ed told me yesterday that he had an accumulation of over 180 personal emails backlogged. He even had a friend sorting through and getting rid of the goofy stuff...but alas... he's a globe trotter and will be inundated for a while catchin up.
Remember his hotel room phone # is (915) 584-3441 to the hotel switchboard. Just ask for room 136 if you'd like to give him a jingle. He's usually back in his room after 10-10:30 Tx (MT?) time.
-
I'm glad to have gotten to meet you Ed. I enjoyed the reading material you gave me. Looks like I have to build the 12v paper disk sharpener I've been putting off. You've noticed that computers unique character have you 8^). Still praying for a good outcome and the strength to go through it all.
Hang in there.

Ah! Picked up a wireless keyboard and mouse at Radio Shack. The screen 'fritzes out' at times, but i can type now! (Wops, I'll take that back, the keyboard works. I'm strictly a 2 finger typist.

Wops? Wops, Ed? Is that Aussie for woops? :banghead: :biglaugh:
Sure good to see you back among us and bantering!
Keep the good spirits. Mental attitude is 80% of all healing and beating the big C! We're pullin and prayin for you, my friend!
Love seein you post, brother. Keyboards help, eh?
Keep the Son in your eyes!

Having some contact with the cyber world has helped me a lot! Thanks again, Galen.
Dave, this new keyboard doesn't spell any better than the one with missing keys did ... but it makes making the mistakes a lot easier to accomplish!
Ed
-
Hey Ed did you figure out the screen was set up for speed reading???
Glad it's helping even though its seen better days.
How you doing?

:biglaugh: Ed, that has to be one of the funniest quotes I've seen yet! And it's the reason why you're going to be just fine! Attitude is 90% of beating this mess!
Keep the Son in your eyes, Ed...and that song in your heart!

Galen, I'm sort of looking at the screen as eye-movement exercises for tracking a pinpoint spot on running targets!
One of my bowhunting friends from high school just tracked me down. I haven't heard from a single person from my high school class in 40 years. Small world. He passed along my contact info to a few others, and now I'm getting emails and phone calls from folks I figgured I never get to see again. It nice.

Blessings just keep coming, Ed. May your ole chums abound in your time of treatments and you be bouyed by each new rekindeled friendship of bygone times.
Good to hear such encouraging relational news. God intended us all to be in relationship. Bless ole Galen for making you accessible once again.

Last I talked to Ed, the treatments are starting to really suck the swizzle outa his energy. He says the best he feels is early so he's up early to work on his research notes for the next update...then gets his morning treatment and crashes like a downed fighter jet afterward. :(
He's got the spirit of a mule though and just keeps smiling.
he enjoys calls so check the phone number listed for his hotel room earlier and give him a shout.
(915) 584-3441 to the hotel switchboard.
Just ask for room 136.or if a very spanish sounding lady answers, Quarto (room) Uno, tres, seis. :)
This weekend, he's been invited by someone to their home to get away from that hotel room. He's been there several months in El Paso and doesn't know Jack...
Even Jack could call... :)
Ed, Keep the Son in your eyes, bud!

Tomorrow is my last radiation treatment. Whew! It's taken a toll. I'll be headfing over to stay with a friend after tomorrow's trearment. Thank you all for the help in getting through this. Much appreciated. It will take a while to recover from the radiation side effects, but I'm really looking forward to getting started on that!
