Been around 3 weeks. Pain has been very manageable without their dreaded gnarly narcotic drugs! Thank you, Lord!!!
still unable to do much and have to be so very careful to not twist, bend, lift---cause I don't think it would hurt pain-wise, but they say it'd do "damage." Now that's scary!
Thanks for all your prayrs and support! Anyone with stenosis or pressure from discs in their spine, don't hesitate to have this lamenectomy type surgery done. Jury's still out on permanent fix to the constant low back pain and sciatic pain, but I'm being positively hopeful!

Been fighting Uncle Arty Ritis for a long time. He's winning! With all the shoulder rebuilds posted, brought back memories of one torn rotator repair from arthritis build up and one impingement surgery on other one couple years back. Now...ain't enough that Arty Ritis fused my thoracic spine with bone spurs, it's now trying to narrow my lumbar spinal colum and pushing on nerves.
Going to get them to roto rooter out my one vertabrae and then clean up the gunk and sew me back together. In Thursday at 8:45, cut at 11:30 AM and out of the hospital by Friday AM.
Whenever I wake up, I'm gonna wiggle my toes! If that goes well, I figure they didn't mess up nothin! :)
Can't shoot for a month... maybe I'll have forgotten all my bad habits and can start clean by then? :)
Thanks for the prayers.

Best of luck, Dave. After you wiggle your toes, try goosing a nurse! If you live thought that, you're on your way! Will hold you and your doctors in prayer.

Thanks, Guys!
Jed, I think I'm a bit too vulnerable in that post-operative condition to give that one much serious thought, but it sure made me smile!
Family doc gave me some good cough meds to get rest tonite and hopefully keep from coughin after.
Got into some nasty chemical stuff at work after they did some epoxy based floor covering on one room... tore up the allergies. Coughin my head off. Surgeon said long as no fever, I'm good to get cut! I made a plative call to ask for some heavy cough meds so's not to jar the stitches loose!
Between allergies and Arthritis, I'm plumb sick of malise with the letter "A". :)
One more day and a wake up and it's all history!
Trusting in the Lord to see me through and get some life back with less pain and more activity!
-
Dock, my prayers are going out for you and a full and healthy recovery. I wish you the best brother.

Thanks, Guys! I appreciate the encouragement and words of prayer.
Came home to 3 messages. One from the hospital insurance dept... telling me to bring money. I've met my deductible, but they wait to call my HOUSE till the day before I go in! Amazing.
Then "pre-admissions" calls. I had all that done a week ago! Tell me to call them...they're there till 3:30. I get home at 6pm, thank you.
Anyone that I've met thru this process has my 2 cell #'s and knows to use them...but these yahoos call my house! :( Amazing!
And this is health care... OMG...I wasn't worried before, but if the front office staffing is any indication of the clinical care...I'm toast! :(
-
Doc, best of luck and you know I'm always willing if not always able to help, but if you need some nursing you know I know a few ;)

Praying that you can maintain your sanity when dealing with the non-support staff.
I had been told I was scheduled for a ct scan yesterday but I get a message asking why I hadn't gotten my blood work done that she had talked to me about a few days before. Only she had never called me nor had she gotten me the paperwork. Then I find out that ct scan is for today at 2 instead of yesterday. I call the ct scan people and find out I'm supposed to be there at 11:45 not at 2. I talk to my surgeons people again and they said they called my wife and she told them to fax the paperwork to the lab only thing is they never called my wife. The last time I went through this they made an appointment for me to meet with the surgeon but forgot to let me know that I had an appointment. SCARY. Praying you wake up feeling like a new man course that could mean you might feel like you've been squeezed through a long tube. ;^) Prayers sent bro

Dave,
Praying for a full and speedy recovery. God bless you my brother, Scott.
-
thanks for all the prayers!
Surgery went ok I guess... but the aftermath led to a blocked bladder, 2 caths and an extra stay over in a hospital that used to be quite good locally, but was bought out and now sucks. Understaffed, underequipped, but the surgery seems to have gone well.
Just being home with a cath up my hoo-hah ain't anything I ever imgained. Get that out on Tues...do a flow study... see what comes of it all.
Can't do much with the back surgery, but I'm moving...bewy, bewy swoooly! :)
Thanks for the prayers. I'm going to go take a nap now...kinda spent! :)
Hopefully, each day gets better!

Doc,
Glad to hear the surgery went well and hope everything heals quickly for you...Sorry to be late on the prayers for you...Take it easy for a few weeks and don't rush yourself to get back to work untill you are 100% ....God Bless and the girls send their Love to ya!

Thanks all, for prayers and advice.
Tomorrow is one more hurdle. Out comes the catheter to see if all works. Nerves that control such stuff are where they were grinding out bone and diggin out arthritis...so trusting in His will that all is well.
Taking 1st shower tonite. Yeah! Funny how small things become big like a kid again! :)
Time to take Muscle relaxants and get ready for that big enterprise!
Thanks again for the support!
-
Best of luck Doc. I would say something, but this is a public forum...lol. You will be in my prayers.

Thanks, Guys!
Gotta new song:
"That Cath is out...the Cath is out...makes me wanna shout!"
The ole gal taking care of me poured about 3 gal of saline solution up the spout and when I got cross-eyed, she quit, yanked it out like she was guttin a fish!
Lot less painful than going in for darned sure!
Standing takes time and has to follow an orchestrated process from the back surgeon, but got up and in no time, 'my cup runneth over!"
What a joy! :)
I was one happy, joyful and thankful li'l camper right then and there!
Back pain decided to take center stage. Nothing I'd say is nuff to make me recommened AGAINST anyhone getting a process for stenosis done like I did...
It's just not the same surgery site "meat" pain...it's now the nerves they were moving around and playing with waking up and saying to me, "hey, remember us?"
Whooie. Surgeon's office just called to "check" and tell me that was all normal and to "keep on walking"... but I ain't got nowhere to go!?
Thank you LORD! Long way to go, pain is a pistol, but dang...the 'Cath is out!" :)
-
I read your post to my wife who once was a nurse and I nearly had to pick her up off the floor. Dang Doc that must have been the same girl that pressurized my plumbing. I thought she over filled me because water was coming out of my eyes. But it sure breaks the dam free. Still praying for you.

If I'm happy to make anyone laugh, it's your wife! She's due!! :jumper:
Nerve pains are interesting now..to say the least. Echo the things that led me to the doc in the first place...those "toothache" pains radiating down legs, calves, ankles, knees... but as long as they keep tellin me that is 'normal' I'm good with it!
Walking does seem to help, but wind is blowing about 30 knots and it's got to be hovering around freezing. I tried one bundled up walk outside this AM but weather's gotten worse through the day. Not risking a head cold and coughin just now! Nah!
but pacing about this small 2 story townhouse really is getting boring! I keep finding dust or stuff needs cleaned! And can't! Torture I tell ya!
Thanks for all the prayers and support and encouragement this past week or 2! It really helps guys, more than you might know to come here and renews my committment to do so for others to "pay it forward."

UPDATE:Been around 3 weeks. Pain has been very manageable without their dreaded gnarly narcotic drugs! Thank you, Lord!!!
still unable to do much and have to be so very careful to not twist, bend, lift---cause I don't think it would hurt pain-wise, but they say it'd do "damage." Now that's scary!
Returned to work Tuesday last. 50 min drive is a killer but the surgeon's team tells me the new pains are to be expected. Get an exam April 1st and they promise me it won't be an April Fool's joke. :)
Thanks for all your prayrs and support! Anyone with stenosis or pressure from discs in their spine, don't hesitate to have this lamenectomy type surgery done. Jury's still out on permanent fix to the constant low back pain and sciatic pain, but I'm being positively hopeful! Surgery itself isn't bad. Living alone and trying to function presents a few interesting challenges, but it's all good!

Doc. Glad to hear things are coming along. Your still in my prayers.
-
Glad you are doing better. I will have to get back to you on the back stuff as mine hurts like hell. Prayers continue

Praying for you Doc! You are such a prayer warrior and encouragment to others. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord.

Thanks, Guys.
After a week of work and sleeping all weekend I was sooo tired, Monday (yesterday) kicked my kiester so I begged off and worked from home via the amazing aspects of the internt.
(Thank you, Al Gore!) :)
I think that 50 min drive bouncing in the truck about does me in and then walking the cold concrete floors puts the icing on the cake.
I'll try tomorrow and see the surgeon on Friday.
The crazy sciatic pain that drove me to this surgery returned with a vengance over the weekend and monday night especially. Seems to have let up some today... maybe doing too much too fast? :)
