Title: If not for bad luck, wouldnt have any!
Post by: koger on June 10, 2011, 10:30:00 PM
Well, here goes. When I was at the Tenn. Classic, shot a bow too heavy for me, pulled my shoulder I had rotator cuff surgery on 2 years ago, and pinched a nerve in my hand. Just getting over this last week. Yesterday morning was doctoring a big calf I had up in the bar, #700 heifer, and she had other ideas when I tried to rope her, ran by me and kicked me twice in the lower back before I could blink, then as  I turned around, she butted me in the gut and ran smack dab over, trampeled me pretty good, and got a glancing kick on the back of the head after she got tired of stepping on me! Now I have been working cattle since I was 10 years old, now knocking on 50 and this is my first time getting run over. This morning I could barely get out of bed, sore from head to toe, didnt sleep much last night. Lucky nothing was broken, or hurt internally, this crap sure hurts more every year older I get. I had been putting some antiseptic in her eye, she poked it with soomething about 10 days ago,and she has healed up nicely. Just hope I can do the same. Thanks for listening to me complain guys. Sam

Sorry to tell ya.....it doesn't get any better as you cross the "50" line and head to the big 60.  Those little events seem to hurt worse and take longer for you to heal from.

Soory for the bad news - but hope you're feelin' better soon Samual!

I'm sorry, but that's funny! Brings back LOTS of memories. Was the heifer really that fast or have you slowed down some my friend? Sorry for the humor, hope you get healthy again quickly!

Seems to me ya got two ways to go here.

Grab your buddies Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson, and do the the John Wayne walk out to the barn.  Now make good and sure all the other critters see you comin' too.  Ya gotta let them all know who is in charge.
Don't say a dang thing and shoot her right in the doctored up eyeball!

or

Get your kilt on and figure on askin' permission to come in your own barn every day.

Best of luck and let know how it all turns out for you.

Having been trampled by a cow, I know its no picnic!  However I was much younger and more resilient.

Farming is a dangerous profession and so is large animal Veterinary practice.  A friend of the family quit being a large animal vet when her partner was killed by an emu or ostrich.  the beak hit him in a bad spot in the head and killed him.

Glad you are ok . Thank you for being a farmer and bringing us city folk food. Cant wait for some Steak   ;)

Well Charlie, making burger and steak out of her crossed my mind, but being a tighwad, and cow prices, especiallyher size, are the highest they have ever been in my lifetime, I had to restrain myself from popping her. I need to take some of the blame, been needing to make a head chute, and never got around to it. I am feeling a    little better, just sore as heck, heading to work this afternoon. Gonna try to shoot my bow this morning some, thats gotta help right. I already haver pretty bad arthritis from a treestand accident 15 years ago, started to get into a 16 foo home made ladders tand, just as I got to the platform, cable snapped holding it against the tree, somone had been chopping on it with a ax, tryint to steal it. Broke my leg in 5 places, foot was twisted off and both bones sticking out. Two major surgeries and 6 months on crutches before I coudl walk alone, hurt ever since. 4 years ago I had back surgery, and reviewing the MRI before he did the surgery, Doc asked when I broke my back, I asked him what he meant. He said the MRI showed I had fractured 2 vertabreas, midback about 10 years or so by his estimation, and they were fusing together. I told him about the treestand accident, he said I was one lucky son of a gun, walking around with ab broken back and didntknow it, could have been cripple easy. I have always done hard physical work, and shot a bow all of my life, doc said haveing a strong muscle core back then was what probably saved me.

Whooiie.

You got to do rodeo and survived at nearing 50!?!

Now, about that "kick in the head" on the way past and "no injuries"... course, reviewing what you typed above, how would YOU or anyone in your family KNOW if you had head injuries, eh? Wow!

That is SOME resume you have there!

Made me go take an aspirin just reading it! You really are living a charmed existence. Lord got something left for you to do me thinks!

Got a couple months to make that head chute before hunting season or a worse accident!

Congrats on being a strong healer (vs. heeler) and um....can you send me a copy of your diet? I gotta figure out what you're doing to heal so good all these years!

Prayers for another amazing healing and NO real or possible injuries to crop up later from Bossy Bossie!

I rode bull for 5 years when I was a whole lot younger. That taught me how to deal with pain. My last encounter with riding a horse let me with two broke ribs behind my shoulder blade and two loose teeth where she kicked me in the mouth when she went past. I was going to do the bull rider tuck and roll when I hit the ground. I got the tuck part right but the roll part turned into a splat. LOL! Anyway being 52 I know first hand how long it takes to get over that stuff. I will pray for you that you heal fast. God bless your and yours.......Dusty
