Yesterday I started the process to get into a new clinical trial for two drugs that are having great results with other types of cancer. This study will try them om sarcomas which I have. These are not chemo drugs but drugs to remove the defenses cancer has and also boosts the immune system so the body destroys the cancer cells. There are some side effects but not as bad as chemo. One possible positive side effect they are seeing is the body can develop antibodies for multiple cancers.
Anyway just praying for God's best in this and thanks for all the prayer they are having a great effect. My oncologist said my wife and I were the two happiest people in the center. God is Good!!!!!!!!!!!!! :notworthy:
-
I found out I am in the Nivolumab arm of the clinical trial. Mixed feelings because the two drug combo has worked the best on other cancers but the side effect is severe diarrhea and other possible side effects. The good news is that normally there are minimal side effects with Nivolumab. It was humanly randomized by computer but God controls the outcome so He knows whats best for me. I start on Monday.

Well, all good things have costs, Galen...
Prayers this is a good thing and regardless, you'll be advancing research for others.
Godspeed!
Keep the Son in your eyes and USANA on board if possible... :)

They might not allow it as they'll recon it'll interfere with the results, since not all have those 'on-board'. Shame.
Warmest wishes and fervent prayers my ole friend!
-
Dave I have the essentials on my med list including the ingredients so they know already and have not said I should not take them  --

Great news, Galen!!!
Nothing there but what SHOULD be in our food...and ain't! :o
-
I'll be praying things will work for you!
-
The first treatment is done so far it's going ok. Don't know the dose amount but get it every 2 weeks for 17 weeks then they reassess how things are going. By the way the ct scan showed the 2 tumors they hit with radiation have gotten smaller. Praise God

So far just some fatigue and weakness but feel fine otherwise.
-
Hopefully, nothing more and much less!
C'mon USANA...do ya thang!
-
The trial hasn't been too bad but today I'm anemic and low on red cells so getting 2 pints of red. They're going to check for a leak to figure out where its going. Feeling pretty good except for the fatigue.
-
Prayers Sent. Hang in there.
-
Low iron will make you feel like you was rode hard & put up wet...
LIving in MT I was once low on IRON for some unknown reason... gave me a supplement (RX type) and in a week, I was back in fighting trim.
Prayers for same for you, Galen!
Keep the Son in your eyes, Bro!

Now that right there is funny...does it RAIN in NM?
I echo Bob's sentiments that you're feeling uplifted with having been a quart low!
Hope that doesn't recur, but God's Will, not ours, Brother!
Keep the Son in your eyes!

Its been too dang cold to go out and scoop up the dog poo and since that was at the top of the list I just have to put the rest of rhe list on hold.
-
LOL...yup, no sense working on #2 on t he list when the back/side yard is full of chilled #2...that is #1 on the list...
 :knothead:
Waay too chilly here too, for a bloody heat pump... dangest cold house I've ever lived in... South my foot!
-
Well I'm scheduled for a scope from both ends to see where the blood is coming from. Hope I don't leak too much before the appointment. Makes me wonder if they'll shake hands when they meet in the middle :scared:
-
Good sense of humor there, Galen... Hope they have wee tiny hands! :0
Hopefully, just a polyp or something like that in there, but God will see you thru it
Keep us posted.
Keep the Son in your eyes!

One of the side effects of this drug is colitis and bleeding.
-
Doh! Always something... Hate this for you, Galen, but hopefully they can moderate it and maintain your status quo while beatin the tar outa that ole lump!

It seems like with modern medications, the side effects are sometimes as bad as(or worse than) the affliction itself. :clapper: :goldtooth:

Had two scopes this morning to see if they could find where I'm bleeding internally. The scopes showed no bleeding or any abnormalities! Praise God! Now I'm believing that the blood and junk that showed up is what my oncologist said would be a low probability and that is its the dead cancer cells the body is flushing out of the system!
-
Be neat to sit down and grunt out that ole tumor, and flush it away, huh!
Hey...dreams are ok...you've earned em, Galen!
-
Forgive me for not staying on top of this. My prayers for the Great Physician to ease your heart and bring healing and glory to His name.
-
Prayers, and Best Wishes to you, and family.
-
Well the prep for the scope really weakened me. I got up to empty the colostomy at 3:30am the day of the scopes and I got dizzy and fell. I must have kicked something in the bathroom and it appears I broke my foot. It didn't bother me until last night and kept getting worse until I couldn't sleep anymore. The pain level has been so great my body has been shaking like a dog pooping razor blades. I took an oxycodone and it doesn't faze the pain so I really need prayers for relief from this. Ice and elevation do nothing.
-
-
More prayers for you my brother.
-
Dang, Hoss!!!
One word: STOP!
Quit doing t his stuff, Bro!
I find Oxy to be like many narcotics...don't phase deep nerve pain...least not for me.
Get to ER and have it Xrayed to find out what's up!
-

Walk softly and carry a big stick. :bigsmyl:
-
Indeed, DAniel, or in this case, LEAN on a big stick!
Keep us posted, Galen, on diagnosis and progress, please...
Prayers abound...!
-
Well God graciously took care of my foot and I'm almost walking normally. Had a ct scan early then a barium scan of the rest of my intestines that the scopes couldn't get to. Was fun to watch and see them pushing my innards around. The radiologist said there didn't appear to be anything unusual so I'm still believing that the new drug is eating and spitting out the tumors.
-
Good news on the foot...
First time I ever heard of someone crappin out a cancer tumor, but if anyone can do that... I would pray it'll be YOU, Galen!  :shaka:
Also good news on t he foot... guess since you're getting around on it, you didn't have them xray it to be sure???
Pretty soon you'll be back out stompin the slopes for them big ole sheep!
-
Doc I have been itchin to go out and setup my game cam on a waterhole hidden back in a canyon to see if those barbary sheep are using it. I've got to get some exercise because the weakness has kept me down and my body is just getting weaker. Got to push to get my fitness level up or this stuff will make me old quick.
-
INdeed, Galen, but after this surgery, the least bit of exertion has me shakin like a dog passing peach pits!
I'd suggest a few turns around the development with the wife vs. a hike into back country till you get that ole verve back... loosing blood sucks the snot outa yer pins big time too... While relatively safe, we never know WHO's BLOOD we get in a transfusion and they might have had a need for Geritol before you got it!
Steady as she goes, brother...
-
Go get'em, Galen. Your faith and grit are inspiring to all us mere mortals.
-
One mere mortal here who is being held up by the Immortal One :bigsmyl:

None the less, Galen, I echo Graybeard's sentiments...you help the rest of us by being a mirror of what FAITH truly means!
God bless and ...thank you!
-
AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Well this drug has been kicking my butt. Very anemic to the point i worried the when they drew blood for tests there wouldn't be enough. Still feel pretty good just crazy weak and dizzy. Using a hiking stick for balance.
-
Drugs can be a god-send or the opposite...
Hope it is doing what it's designed to do, Galen, and not harming your constitution in any way!
Prayers for healing and it to be short-term side effects!
Keep the Son in your eyes and walk carefully, carry your big stick!
-
Iron level down to 5.9 so crazy weak. Going to get blood and iron today and more during the week. Good news is the drug has stopped the growth of the tumors. So getting more tests to find the source of the internal bleeding.
-
Galen, you are a resident in my daily prayers. Godspeed for your healing!
Denny

Well they're going to have me swallow a camera so it can go all the way through and take pictures. I know I've been told I have a big mouth so getting it in shouldn't be a problem its coming out thats got me concerned :knothead:
-
I hope you are photogenic!
-
As long as it goes in the mouth end first, it'll be ok... could be one weird sensation. Not something you want in the coffee table family album I'm guessing! Nor on Utube me thinks... :scared:
Prayers for them to find whatever needs be found...especially after all that!
-
Dang it Doc I'm laughing so hard I could spring another leak
-
Almost gross
-
DAn, Po' ole Galen has been putting up with me for several years side bar, so he gets my offbeat humor...
Didn't mean to be grose, but if so, I apologize, but if I can make ole Galen chuckle, it was worth it!
Mia copa... :notworthy:
-
Just kidding. Can't imagine the camera going in the back door and coming out the front.
Do you know the difference between an oral and rectal thermometer ??? The taste :D
-
:biglaugh:
-
Oh, my... Taste huh?
Read somewhere that rectal thermometers carry a 'individually tested by our staff" on each one... and the caption then followed, "...and you think you have a crappy job?"
Galen, good luck with all that...doesn't sound terribly pleasant to swallow a camera, but as long as it's not a Nikon SLR I guess you're good to go...
Keep us informed, and God's best for you, ole friend!

:smileystooges:

Still loosing blood but haven't had any more tests. I've had 4 units of blood and 2 units of iron in the last two weeks and get iron today and Friday. We meet with the oncologist Monday and I'm pushing to get this internal bleeding taken care of. Also contacting my surgeon to see what she thinks. So prayers that the hole gets plugged are much appreciated. "
-
YOu got that in spades, brother!!! :(
PRayers abound!
When is this trial over, in case it's the treatment???
As always and you do, Keep the Son in your eyes!
-
Starting to feel like a dull toothed vampire. I had to get 9 units of blood in the last 2 weeks. They're holding off on swallowing the camera because of the tumors next to the intestines may cause it to get stuck and then its emergency surgery to get it out. So instead they're setting up a test where they add a radioactive dye to my blood and track it with some big machine. Supposedly any leaks will show up and then they can come up with a an to fix it.
I'm praying and speaking God's word at it to get it healed up and skip the other junk.
-
Thanks for the update, Galen.
Sure hope this works and they can plug your leak...
Hang in there, brother. Prayers abound!
