Folks some may know some may not but my wife and I adopted three little girls and our youngest named Darci was born with no thumbs just 4 fingers on each hand!
They call that Pollicization and her hands turn inward to a 45 degree angle.
She will be in Sinai Hospital in Baltimore Md. on Dec. 22nd.to have her index finger moved to the position of where her thumb should be.
We were trying to have this done earlier but she had to have heart surgery before this operation and we have another daughter that had cleft lip and needed lip surgery and we had to move things around and this is a date where my wife has off during Christmas week and we both can tend to her while wearing a cast !
She can have both done at same time but Dr. said she can have it done whenever she wants through her life and her right hand is limited on bending her fingers but her left she can bend so the left will get done first.
I'm praying in Jesus name that God will guide the Dr's hands and she recovers well and can use her new thumb so she can grasp her new bike that is on her Santa list!
This little girl is so amazing to watch as she does things that are impossible for some folks to do.
She has a little plastic bow I got her this summer with those rubber suction cups and she can fling them with a little help and I let her shoot my Old daisy B.B. gun with a little help but she absolutely try's everything and anything that challenge's her!
I love our girls that God has gifted us with and I thank you Father for letting this 54 year old be a Father !
If you all will we appreciate your prayers for Darci!
God Bless and Merry Christmas to All!

Thanks to Each and every one of you for being devoted "Prayer Warriors " to our little girls and for all your kind words !
I think my wife and I are more nervous about her operation then she is and the other night she wanted to say grace at the table and our little 6 year old was asking God to guide the Dr's hands as they give her a thumb and she thanked God for it!
That really touched my heart that she likes to say grace and ask for prayers and praises our heavenly Father for All He has done !
One of the neatest things we found out is her therapist that she will have back home here when the operation is over is the same therapist I had when I was 22 years old and severed my right hand in a log splitter !
That was 32 years ago and God had this all planned out and to have the same therapist just blows my mind cause she was a great therapist and I was able to pull a string again with that hand.
Again "Our family thanks you All"!
-
Those girls will keep you in GREAT stories for a long, long time...
The log splitter incident was THAT long ago... good gracious! 54...you getting to be an old dog, Keith! :)
Pretty neat on the PT person. Better let the wife take her, you'll wanna ratchet jaw with her and distract her from her work... :knothead:
-
Doc,
Yes sir it was 32 years ago on Dec.1st 1985 and I was putting a big log on the horizontal "I" beam and my brother in Law (wasn't at the time) pushed the lever while I was just resting the log down and my hand went against the splitter's wedge and log was pushed by the hydraulic arm and blood poured out and I was taken to a Hand center in Baltimore 2 hours later.
They were going to amputate it if my nerves didn't take but 4 days later I moved it ever so slightly and I had maybe 25 splints made throughout my therapy sessions and 8 pins to hold my fingers on until my bones mended .
I found out the window for a severed hand or limb if iced down is about 2 hours so if that ever happens to anyone which I pray doesn't get the finger or whatever and Ice it down and get to the emergency room A.S.A.P. and if you have a good Dr. and Trust in God's healing power you just may be able to save it.
As Darci shows me how she can hold a small cup with just her 4 fingers it takes me back when I showed my mother the first time I was able to hand her a glass of sweet tea and my Mom's expression on how amazed she was to see I was able to open up my hand just enough to hold a glass.
I too am amazed to see our little Darci do the same thing and as I said before this little sweet girl Bless's my heart and I am so grateful to have her as our daughter.

Keefer, amazing about your therapist. You truly are in 'good hands'. Prayers sent for Darci. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Be praying up a storm on Friday, Keef!

Same here brother !

Tomorrow's the day, prayer warriors! I'm getting mine in early to avoid the Christmas rush!
Nice that Darci is not as anxious as the parents (or us?) ...to have the peace and faith of a child...
-
Today is the day everyone that Darci will get her thumb procedure and the operation should take place at around 10:00 a.m. and be about a 3 or 4 hour operation.
My wife is going to be with her while I am at work for today and tending to our other two young daughters when I get home.
We don't have a lot of family members who are retired or grandparents that can jump in to help so I can be with my wife and Darci and that weigh's heavy on my heart this morning!
I need to tend to them and my wife knowing how to drive in the city and understands all the medical stuff she is going and staying the night!
I have a good wife and a great mother to these girls and I thank God for her and all she does !
I also thank you all and as soon as I hear word and get home here I'll post how things are going!
God bless each of you and Lord I lift our little Darci up to you as you guide the hands to perform this procedure so one of your little lambs can do even more with her hands you created her with. Please be with my wife as well as she travels and give her peace .
Please be with Darci and keep her pain minimal .
I ask all this in your perfect Son's name Jesus!
-
Indeed, li'l Brother, you done good on the mate and chilluns choices! Prayers will continue all day! Keep us posted
Keep the Son in your eyes!

Pappa likely spent all his free time at the hospital...I was lucky to get a quick text and a picture of the "China Doll" with the new digit location and a quick note that said the xrays of the work looked good!
Last pic was of Wee Darci smiling like a Cheshire cat! Be a while for recovery I'm sure but what a Christmas present for the Keifer family!
Thank you, Jesus!!!
PS: Don't ask how I did this but I THINK I GOT the pic off text to my computer to imagur...

Beautiful little Angel. Prayers for no pain and rapid healing.

She's home...Got one last text from Keef..said Darci had some reaction to one of the elements in her anesthesia and it can be totally fatal, called
"steel jaw" or something and they got it reversed by her teeth and jaw are quite sore...
Seems like the LORD stood in the gap for her. Prayers that continues thru rehab!

Got this pic this evening from Keefer (http://i.imgur.com/GcoioX6.jpg)

Praise God everything went well and she is Home !
Thanks to all you dedicated prayer warriors who lifted up our Darci girl during her surgery and there was a hick up on the anesthesia that gave her a Masseter spasm where her jaws locked up and they couldn't pry them open from a anesthesia called Succinylcholine and can be Fatal but our Lord was there no doubt and guided the anesthesia folks on a reversal and got her back on track so to speak.
She has a sore jaw and teeth hurt a bit but this morning I am playing Daddy nurse and she is on her second cup of shaved ice with flavor !
She is doing "GREAT" might I ad and sweet as can be !
Sorry I have been trying to post an update but Friday our middle daughter (Kaci) somehow posted a video of herself on YouTube and in the process our email account on our home PC got messed up and I couldn't get on here with out my password which gives me a fit whenever I get logged off?
Lucky for me my wife loaned me this hand held devise and Ishe was able to log me on it somehow?
Thanks to Doc and Fred for putting up some pictures for me and this is True friendship having friends and "Brothers" of the same faith in Christ Jesus and as our Darci will soon be able to do for the first time in her life she and I give you a

Password? Yikes... That's rough when that happens...
Glad Fred put up the latest pic...took me forever to send that other'n to myself from my phone and then edit it and add to IMagur...
YIKES! Kaci is posting vids to utube! Kids! I couldn't do that to save my life!
I heard it said, that the reason Anesthesiologist get paid so much, is that they "ALMOST" make you dead, then bring you back! :scared:
Whatever they earn is fine with me. :saywhat:
Long ago I saw a list of what they gave me the first operation I had (due to a bunch of allergies we weren't sure)...and the list of items were ALL "deadly" stuff!
Good gracious!
Again, prayers of thanksgiving to our Lord for her safety, and for great things to come!!

Merry Christmas

Great News!
-
Praise be to our Lord and Savior and what a gift He gave!
We can Never out give His Love and He surely was there for our Darci girl!
We finally got our PC back to working order and I can log on here now to give an update on Darci!
If you could of seen her excitement on Christmas morning and just amazes me how she opened most her presents all by herself while wearing a cast ! Truly a Miracle to see how well she is doing after her Friday operation!
We had to keep sitting her in the recliner and prop her arm up cause she started a little swelling by letting her left arm droop down so today I have to try to install velcro in her arm sling so she keeps it up some due to sliding out so much.
I tried duct tape but my wife thought it was "tacky" but it did help me 32 years ago when my co workers wanted to actually see my hand with 8 pins holding it on and having a little too much of that liquid spirits in me at my work place Christmas party !
Several of my coworkers had helped me tape my bandages back on and duct tape was a good fix lol!
This little girl is doing so well and we Thank You all for those continued prayers!
-
It seems that your family has had a most blessed Christmas. We will continue to pray that her recovery will be quick and complete.

Just giving an update to the "Prayer and Praise" warriors here that little Darci is doing just fine!
She has been in no pain what so ever and wiggling her fingers which were swelled a little and bruised at first when the Dr. worked the joints in her hand while she was getting her first digit moved to the thumb position.
What an Awesome God we have for giving the Dr.s the steady hands to perform His work!
God is good all the time and thank you all for continued prayers.
She will get the cast cut off and pin removed on Feb.2nd on a Friday Lord willing.
So please keep her in your daily prayers if you will and as always God Bless each one of you as well.

YOu're quick, Fred!!! Got those too and Keith said that she'd been wigglin that new "thumb" some inside the cast so I guess that means the graft took and nerves & muscles are connecting...
She took the pics herself with her I-pad and sent them to her Daddy I hear...kids today... Growing up with all the technology sure doesn't hurt! :)
Thank you, Lord!
Gotta love the smiley face on her finger! :)
-
Not to take a THING away from any other here, but I do not think I've personally seen anyone MORE Proud of their kids then Keith;Nor do I sense there are many more Grateful to God for all the blessings bestowed upon him then he has shown to me and many.
He gets any more proud he'll bust the buttons off his shirt and in this weather, he'll end up with frostbite of the chest hairs! :scared: :knothead:

Ain’t that the truth Doc !!!!

Thanks again Fred and Doc I surely appreciate all of you and everyone who jumped on the Prayer Wagon with us during Darci's hand surgery and heart surgery last summer as well!
Darci is home now and sucking on a sugar daddy lollipop she got at a restaurant on the way home.
She has the smallest little pink splint she will wear while sleeping and several hours during the day while undergoing therapy on using her new thumb.
It doesn't bend much yet due to a pin that held the finger on so it would graph to the hand itself but it looks like the nerves and muscle are good.
I know how she feels cause as many know I had all my fingers pinned back on as well years ago and it took some time to bend my joints but therapy is the key to recovering and Many prayers above all things..
She is one tough little girl and we are so thankful to have her and our other two daughters as Arrows in my quiver! :archer:
Thank you Father for answered prayers and Glory to the Highest !
-
That is great news. Continued prayers for her recovery.

Glad to hear the good reports and answered prayers.
-
Glad to see she is healing up nicely! Continued Prayer for healing and functionality.
-
Today her therapy was to pick up little marsh mellows with her new thumb and first finger which used to be her (middle) and as many know now her thumb was actually her first finger but moved to function as a thumb.
She was able to sort of rotate it around a little so that is a good sign.
She is now putting small leggo's together making a castle and doing a remarkable job at that!
So here is a  to Darci doing a great job in her therapy.

Way to go Darci

Thanks everyone for the  cause she likes to come look over my shoulder to see what folks say as I read to her ... Makes her day when she see' emoji ;)

Darci, I just want you to know you're a brave little girl.
God has blessed you with two great parents and sisters; a family that serves and loves Him.
It puts a smile on my face, when I hear your Dad speak of you. I have two daughters that have both had serious medical conditions, but God has always stepped in, shown His power, His Authority, and His presence in their lives -like He has in yours.
Give all the love you have; because God is love.
Hang in there girl; you've got a great life ahead, God has big plans for you all.

Got a text the other day showing a pic of her arm...Earlier pics of skin that looked pretty oogly under the cast all that time, now has washed off and it looks much more like the health skin of a young lassies' arm.
Much work yet to do for her at this tender age, but having had Pappa go thru much the same, I'm sure she'll get a good workout on PT...
I teased Keith about the marshmallows she had to manipulate and "could eat those she grasped well" that he'll next have dental bills with that motivator for such a sugary snack! :)
Prayers continue for the Wee One! :)
-
It is truly wonderful to hear that she is doing well.
-
That is great news.

I got to wondering how Darci was coming with her rehab and such so I emailed ole Keith... he replied that Darci is done with all her rehab and she's using that new thumb like it was an original...
Which is great... He shared that his eldest, who helps out with watching the younger sisters during summer is off on a church retreat so prayers up for her to know a great time and have safe travels for she and her friends.
I think she's to be back by now...
-
Thank You Doc and Yes Ande is back from her Church trip to Virginia and our Youth Pastor has served this great Country for 30 years with 4 years Marines and rest in Army and still his family has moved her to Md. to serve God with doing many things with our Youth.
He planned a trip to the Naval Base and teens got to see quite a bit like the Big gun ships and an Aircraft carrier then stayed in camp from my understanding. They went to Bush Gardens for a day and the beach another. Anyway they all had a great time and we are Blessed to have such a great Youth Pastor that gets the teens off the streets and learning about Christ and serving others.
Ande gets to go to a Homeless shelter once a month to serve dinner to not just grown ups but children as well and she enjoys serving and being there.
Now little Darci is one tough little squirrel monkey as we call her.
That child can do about anything with what God gave her and if she can't do exactly as we she figures out a way and adjusts her hands to do so.
The hand looks Awesome but she is back to using a pencil or crayon between her middle fingers and not the thumb and first finger.
She does use that thumb to ride her bike and grab a cup and hold it or a ball and it does help having that first finger moved to the thumb position.
Only time will tell but for now it's been healing very well.
One day I will take a updated picture so folks can see how good it looks .
Thanks for all the continued prayers and everyone Have a Happy and safe Independence day!
-
Keith,
Good to hear that Ande isback and safe along with the rest and all had a memorable time...
Good to hear that li'l bit is doing quite well...
No problem in posting up what I learned... just know people remember and wonder besides ole me, so I thought I'd share since you were stepin n fetchin! :) :bigsmyl:

Doc,
Yesterday I came home and got in the above ground pool we got for the girls several years ago and Darci wanted to take off her life vest float and try to swim all by herself.
I worry more then my wife I think and I was holding her up and guiding her and let go and she swam like a turtle picking her head up for a breath of air and made it all the way across a 24 foot pool. she can't swing her arms over her head or rotate them but she can surly kick and wiggle like a turtle . Amazed me but I put the vest back on and told her I'll keep working with her cause I just ain't ready to throw her out the nest to see if she can fly on her own yet.
Since day one I always had my hands under her to catch her on the swing set and those climbing rock things but she sort of push's me away and says I can do it .
It sort of brings to mind how God is always there to catch us when we fall sort of thing but being a Dad is a gift from God and I am Blessed and Thank our Father for giving me the chance in life to be one.
Sometimes I fail on my walk with Christ and sometimes it can be daily and our Father reminds me He is always there to catch me and brush me off and His Holy Spirit says "Try Again".
I love these girls and watching them grow is Happy and Sad at the same time cause I know I must let them go on their own one day .
Thanks Doc for asking and as always you are a good friend I met here and I want you to know you are like a Big brother to me and a wise man that I am blessed to be friends with. You are a "Brother " and I mean that Doc. :archer:
-
Dang Keith...
You making an old man bleed thru his face (blush) but thanks forthe kind words...
As you said, Darci will find a way! She's got some moxey, and that is a good bad thing...bad for daddykins who worries and good she will not quit! :help:
Give her space and time, as our Lord gives us free will to choose, stumble and fall when we need to... but the pool is a pretty definitive place to play... you don't get lots of 2nd chances breathing water without gills... and that's spelled differently then GIRLS... :)
Keep the faith
