Hi Tom, I'm not much of an expert on Melorani - Only hunted there 7 days. You are going to have a blast though. Plenty of good stalking cover there and the people are great.
We recently produced a video for the 3rivers traditional video series that includes a hunt to Melorani and Ha Nore. It's called Africa; 30+ minutes long and availible in DVD or VHS. Have a good trip. Denny

Denny,
Just ordered a copy from 3 Rivers, really looking forward to it.

I have hunted at Melorani three times and have my fourth trip planned for July of this year.
Stewart and the rest of the people are great to share a camp with . You will have a great time ,but be sure to take enough arrows . Trust me on this it will NOT be your last trip to Africa . I already have another trip for 2007 scheduled .

tdj i was taking 2 dozen is that enough. did you do any stalking
-
Two dozen should be OK. I take two bags packed with one dozen each plus one bow.I'm afraid of airline loss!!!
Did some stalking but most of my time was spent setting in a hide. If you want to stalk that will be no problem .
Main thing is just to relax , you will have a great time.

Tom,I have been to Melorani twice. Most of your hunting will be done from hides(blinds). But,Stewart is more than willing to put you in areas for stalking. On my first trip,I was able to stalk and kill a very nice red hartebeast. This past trip I stalked and killed a waterbuck...very exciting! You are about to have one very memorable adventure.I had to twist the arm of the three guys I took with me this past hunt.None of them had been to Africa and they weren't particularly excited about going.Halfway through the hunt they had all booked to return! The quality of the animals is outstanding and Stewart and Bronwyn are excellent hosts.

thanks chip. any thoughts on areas for stalking kudu on the ranch?

Does Melorani have a web site or is it only thru Bowhunter Safari Consultants?

Steve,Melorani has a great website.Try www.meloranisafaris.com.Tom,I (http://www.meloranisafaris.com.Tom,I) found the kudu extremely hard to stalk, but you never know. There are a few ways to go about it.There are several nice point to point areas where you can still- hunt through prime habitat...obviously,taking the opportunities that present.Different parts of the property hold different animals.Let Stewart direct you.Another way to do it is to ride the roads in the rover until you spot something you want to stalk. As soon as the rover is out of sight of the animal, you bale out and the rover continues on.If the animal sees you exit the vehicle...game over. You will have a radio so if you blow it,they come back and you start again.I will warn you,if you go stalking, tuck your pants into your boots and check yourself for ticks when done. They look like our deer ticks...about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. If you miss one you will know it the next day!
