never hunted africa but have toyed with the idea for the future. i am looking at hunt packages, in particular i am scoping out dries vissers website. he has a package or 4699.00 that includes gesbuck/zebra, blue wildebeest, impala, warthog, and monkey/baboon. this seems cheap considering a hunt in the nwt for ONE caribou would cost the same. Am i missing something here? i didnt see anything on trophy fees on the site. do you think this price includes trophy fees? ive mail drisser. havent heard back yet

I am going in July of 07 and looked at africa because it really is economical compared to other hunts, I am booked with Dries Visser. If you want to know more and get plenty of info. contact Gene Wensel you can go to brothersofthebow.com and there is some info on there as well as contact info. for gene.

it probably covers the fees but not things like tips ,dip fees all of which can be substantial; also on a package you are at the mercy of what show up if its not in the package you are screwed

I'm going this year... Most places I've seen charge about $300 per day plus trophy fees. So for a 10 day hunt you pay $3000, plus trophy fees. You can figure trophy fees will average about $600 per animal, examples are $250 Impala, $800 Wildebeest, $900 Kuda. Add those up and the $4699 is about right for the animals you listed. Airfare is a substantial expense as is shipping the trohpies home and taxidermy so don't forget those.
I booked my hunt through Neil Summers at Bowhunting Safari Consultants. They offer hunts to several different places. You may want to give him a call, too.

Pete; as eluded to in the other threads other costs which guickly add to the total are airfare, shipping and handling, tips, spending money, side trips etc. Figure approx 10K for 10 days hunting and several others for travel and sightseeing and you will reach that figure in short order. With that said it is worth every penny........ Gene W did our 03 hunt and everything was fantastic. Returning in 08 and am trying a differnet location terrain etc.

Pete, don't quote me on this but I also think part of the deal with the package hunts is you pay the trophy fees for the package and you don't get any of that money refunded if you don't get one of the animals in the package. Africa is an incredable place and I would recomend it highly. I hunted there last summer with Visser's and it was an incredable experience. I am going to go back in 2008 also. Joseph
