Title: Flying to South Africa
Post by: katman on August 05, 2006, 07:45:00 PM
I have heard thru the grapevine that Delta will soon be flying Atlanta to J-burg nonstop on a 767, and that was the reason SAA split up with Delta. Anyone else heard this?

Just talked to Delta rep two nights ago.  Yes, they will be flying to jnb starting Dec 4.  Whether or not that is the reason they are no longer partnered with SAA, I couldn't tell ya.

Yep...it is the reason.  I got one of the LAST free tickets on SAA before the partnership broke up on July 1.  From now on, you deal with Delta or go direct to SAA, which is flying out of Washington Dulles.

Too Short

Will talk to you about it in Maine. My partner from West Palm Beach is handling it for me.

Paul,
the flights from Atlanta arrive in Joburg at 345pm. If I need to be there in the A.M. for my ride to pick me up...does that mean I need to STAY in the airport overnight for safety reasons?

Is hotel shuttle service available? Is it reliable? I'm not paranoid...but travel outside the states, to a place where reports of robbery and worse are pretty commonplace...well it does give one pause. And I cannot pack my sidearm on the trip, you know?

The airport is not a good place to hang out in with expensive stuff. Your laptop will not be yours for long. There is a hotel very close to the airport with a shuttle service. There are also many taxis, which overseas visitors ride when feeling they feel that life has become too much for them or are in the mood for a serious adventure. The shuttle is reliable as far as I know and the hotel is not bad.
