Just returned from RSA and will get my horns/hides sometime in the future. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions on which type of mount displays which animal the best. Harvested an Impala, Kudu, Blue Wildebeast and a duicker. Thanks

Unless you have 11 ft ceilings someplace I would consider a pedestal mount for your kudu. A nice wood pedestal with some habitat adds alot to a mount. Impala and wildebeast make good shoulder mounts. Duiker, lifesize wallmount with some long grass. Guy once told me they make great memo holders, mount the head so it sits on your desk and stick memmos on horns.

I would agree with hunt it. Pedestal for Kudu, lifesize Duiker, and shoulder for the other two. I've seen Impalas mounted as a wall pedestal and they look great. Congrats on your success. I am working on a trip for 07 or 08 myself.

Thanks for the suggestions, Pedestal mount for the Kudu sounds good, always liked that position anyway. Paper weight/memo holder for the Duiker, cool. I was thinking full shoulders for the Wildebeast(maybe turned) and Impala, but will look at pedestal mount for him too. Good luck in 07/08 bull.

Katman, The pedestal wall mount is actually a modified shoulder mount. It shows more of one shoulder like a regular pedestal mount but hangs on the wall. Pretty cool.

Thanks bull, I have two whitetails in the pedestal wall mount and they are my favorite. Probably will do this for the Impala. Wondering what is the best way to show off the stripes on the Wildebeast?

Katman, i'm trying to figure out how i want to do my kudu as well. with 8' ceilings i was considering building a new house, but the wife nipped that one. i am doing a pedestal for my blesbok.
just as an fyi. i hunted with Dries the end of june first of july and i just got an email that my trophies are ready for shipping (just 2 months). i thought i would have plenty of time to save up some funds for the taxidermist. >~Rob~>

Wife won't go for new adition (game room), she saw thru that. I am getting my horns/hides shipped to my taxidermist in the states and was told 6-8 mos before they hit US customs in New York.
-
that's what i was told as well, but i got an email from the export folks over the weekend saying they were ready for shipping and that i just needed to send the payment and they would be on the way. 5 animals is costing me $370.00 (kudu, blesbuck, wildebeast, impala and warthog)
i'm thinking the kudu will need to be done on a pedestal as well.
-
Rob, that sounds like a good price on the shipping, I was told to expect around 200/animal to get it to my taxidermist, is yours that cost or is that just getting them to New York customs?
I will check into that wall pedastal troy, thanks.

My first two mounts from my trip last summer will be done the end of September. I will post some pictures as I get them but like Dtala said, wall pedestals are a good way to show off your trophies and the don't stick out from the wall as far. Joseph

katman, i just sent Marakalalo Trophies a check for $370.US, which covered shipping the hide & skull from a blue wildebeest, impala, blesbuck, kudu and a wart hog plus the tail of the blue wildebeest. they were all dipped packed and crated and will be imported to customs and then sent on to my taxidermist. they put all of my hides & skulls in one crate and the $370. is the total. DTala unless somethings different for you due to the furniture it sounds like someone is giving you the shaft. i talked with a fellow bowhunter and he said that it should cost me about another $300-$400 from US customs to the taxidermist.

katman, could you post some pictures of the pedestal mounts.. I have to plan how I am going to get my mounts done.
