I'm looking for a small field guide, laminated cards, or something along those lines which features color illustrations of African plains game. Something geared towards hunting which shows the kill zones would be even better. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Paul

Paul, I suppose this is excactly what you are looking for:
ROBERTSON, K. (2003): The Perfect Shoot: Mini Edition for Africa. – 126 p., figs.; Long Beach, CA (Safari Press).
of more general nature and for plain wildlife watching is this one:
HUNTER, L., RHIND, S. & ANDREW, D. (2002): Watching Wildlife in Southern Africa. – 349 p., figs.; Melbourne, Oakland, London, Paris (Lonley Planet).
If you have any chance to get yourself a copy of
CHENEY, C.S. (2000): Bowhunt Africa. – Vol. I - Vol. III
this would be the most comprehensive work on bowhunting southern Africa - at least I know of.

I ordered my copy (and it is perfect) from The Safari Press. I do know that 3Rivers sells this book now.
If your hunting in Africa you need this book.

You will have PLENTY of time to memorize the books/pics on the flight over to Africa, great book the perfect shot.

African hunter 1 by James Mellon and African hunter 2 by Craig Boddingotn. Just read and enjoy and memorize. Not a field guide.
Also Spiral Horn Dreams by Wyland

I went to Amazon.com and searched for the first manual mentioned above. I was able to find that, and a number of other related books were suggested, including an Audubon Field Manual and even a great map of South Africa. In the end I found all that I will need in preparation for my trip. Also, I highly recommend the Audubon field manual on African wildlife for the great color photographs, and you can take it to have on hand for reference while in your blind.
