Title: hunting Namibia
Post by: Steven Matthew on January 03, 2008, 11:19:00 PM
I have hunted RSA twice over 10 years and had great hunts.  I am getting the bug again and looking for something a little different in Africa that still keeps it within reason. Namibia looks like a good choice and there are well know and highly regarded places like Ha Nore and now Vieranas.  Would some of you that have had expereince in Namibia be able to give me a little insight in choosing a place to go. I am a longbow shooter and after the usual typical stuff without any exotic needs.
Thanks  Steve

iv not hunted in Namibia before but i will be out there in july this year.
compared to a lot of operations iv had experiance with in south africa i recon namibia is the better place to go these days and there is some very reasonable hunting to be had out there.

there are a few guys on here that have hunted Namibia several times, hopefully they will chip in and give you some more info.

cheers andy

Steven,

I just got an email from Dries Visser...he's got a couple openings left for 2008 Namibia.  New operation and being set up for bowhunters like Citadel in RSA.

I have hunted Namibia twice now, with Allan Cilliers (Ha Nore).  He and his son, Wayne, are as good as they get!  I was able to take a Leopard with them in 2006...plus a 62 5/8 inch Kudu.  I am rebooked with two of my mates to go again in 2009.  I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants a great hunt.

By-the-way...hunting with the Bushmen is one of the highest points in my fifty years of bowhunting.  I could follow them for months and never tire of it.

I have not hunted Namibia yet or Africa for that matter but am booked to hunt in August of '08 with Allan Cilliers for 12 days.
Neil Summers of "Bow Hunting Safaris" sent me some information on HaNore when I first sent my inquire in on Africa hunts 2 years ago that gave you an idea of your chances of getting a shot opportunity at Kudu and Gemsbok.
By the way 8th Dwarf I saw a photo of your cat on Allans web site!!!! CONGADULATIONS!!!!  I don't know which is bigger the Leopard or the smile on your face!!!

We hunted not far from Ha Nora last July at a place called Makalaan. Antonie was a top guide for Ha Nora for years but has had his own operation for several years now. He doesn't take many hunters a year, our gang of four was the most hunters at one time he's had. It's very good that way one on one hunting squared.  His accomidations are great, food was great, and the hunting was superb. There was three traditionalist in our group and we took 28 animals. Most shots 15 yards or less, tree stands with plenty of room and the same goes for the pit blinds he will also let you spot and stalk with the bushman AWSOME. Top notch in every aspect of the hunt besides the fact that Antonie and his family are great folks. There is an add in the PBS for Makalaan (Or PM me). Our gang checked into to several before going. We are glad we choose Antonie, one of the gang is headed back this August. I'm going to Tanz, or Mozem, after Cape then going back! Check it out, it's worth a call.

I have hunted both South Africa and Namibia.  Overall, I think I like Namibia better.  The only thing I don't like is that there are no Impala.  Other than that, the country is sparsely populated, beautiful and friendly.  You will love it.
