Well, I aint gettin any younger so I have started planning a trip for 2010. I will be going with Erik Visser of Quagga Safaris and plan at least 10 days maybe 14. Gonna try for Nyala,Kudu,Eland,Bushbuck and Waterbuck as well as a couple of others. I know it is two years away but gotta save the money and am starting now with the planning and contact.Gotta do it before I am too old. I will turn 60 in Nov of that year and cannot think of a better early bday present to myself. Probably take either my Brackenbury Quest or Dale Dye Trails end(both 65#@29") as well as the Harrison Siberian Wolf(73#@29"). Already excited,LOL.

Danny,
Talk about not getting any younger, I will be 63 next month and am going to South Africa next June. Your only as old as you feel. I talked to a fella at the Compton's banquest last year who had just returned from South Africa and he was 90 something, I think 92.
So practice, practice, and then practice.
Good luck.

The FIFA Football word cup will be held in South Africa in 2010, so make sure your flights, bookings etc, are made well in advance. Hotels/car hire/ transport in main centres are sure to be booked in advance.
Enjoy you trip!!!

I just got back, doing the trip with a 50 lb Wes Wallace recurve. I took a Kudu, Gemsbok and a Red Hartebeest. shot placement is what is important. The flesh and bone, for the most part, is the same as our critters. However, their tenacity to hang on to life is like our critters on steroids.
Have a great trip. Don't fly SAA, the service is lousey.

I have to figure out how to do it. My daughter will be home this weekend. I'll see if she can help.

I'm with BrianK
Try not to hit before or during the world cup in 2010. Not sure when exactly it is. The hinterlands won't be hit as hard but getting in and out of Jo-burg is a pain even without everyone in the world trying come in there. You'll make it just try to leave the airport and get out of town ASAP.
I've been a few times but never with a bow. SA is a great place just to be.
I have to disaggree with Bob though. SAA is the way to go. The united flight was worse...who are we kidding though..go with who's cheaper because sitting on an airplane for almost a whole day is going to stink no matter who paints their name on the side...Africa is at the other end though.

Danny, since you are going that far I would reccomend 14 days if you can. You should also look into a trip to one of the national parks. I did 3 days at Pilansburg National Park on the front end and it was a good way to relax and get use to seeing all of the different critters. Don't forget the shopping to. Last I heard diamonds were half the cost of what they are in the states. Those are some mighty fine looking arrows there that Al put together for you! Joseph

Not to worry Al,LOL they are going with me. I am so looking forward to this trip. Got the arrows taken care of thanks to Al. First set have 145 gr Hunters Heads on them and the second set will have 145 gr Ace heads put on them when the arrows get here. Settled on my Brackenbury Quest as my primary bow and my Dale Dye Trails end for back up.

I will be going with you Bro. This is going to be one awesome trip. I can hardly wait. Great birthday present to us both. I will be taking my Silvertip and Cheyene. Got the arrows all picked out too. I am also taking an arrow made for me from St. Judes auction and want to take a Kudu with it. Sure hope it works out. I will post pics of my set up when I get home.

Love that Quest!!
11 Days until I'm on the plane. Here's what I'm taking: El Cheapo, the 50# TD Longbow and 54#@29" ChekMate Hunter I. Both with GT 5557s and between 300 and 350 grains on the front. One with Grizzlies, one with Magnus. Cheers, Steve
