I finally made it home today and had a chance to get the African Lion hunt footage put together. I can't thank Dare to Bowhunt enough for helping me get the long awaited permit and for putting this hunt together. It was a hoot.

Wow when that thing roared i about took off running myself. Thats what you call hunting something that will hunt you back.
Nice!! thanks for the video.
-
Thanks, Buff. I always enjoy your videos. I'm
always calling my wife(who also bowhunts) to see
your latest.
You've probably been asked a dozen times, but do
you use any kind of broadhead sheath in your back
quiver, to protect the edges?
Thankx,
Murray

well all i can say is you r an excellent writer.your story put me there with you . i needed to change my shorts after reading your detailed awwwww inspiring hunt.unfortunately the footage didnt do the writing justice, but its not like you were acting and the cat was trained and you had 20 takes to show every angle and detail .lol . great hunt !!!! p.s. i didnt see any fences nor did i see the cat try to escape , on the contrary i think she was hert bad and just wanted you to go away or she wanted to rip you throat out.

why did you kill it?
-
so that the ranch owner would let the other Lions on his place live. If no one was willing to pay to hunt them, there would be no lions left
-
Fact of life is that animal species in countries that have a "death value" put on them do very well. They will eventually die anyway. Eco tourism is not the answer and may prove to be an extremely poor manager of the enviroment. Witness several reports from Africa.
When locals and rancher/landowners see the benefits from hunting to themselves and their local communities, paying for crop/livestock losses versus bush meat etc sales that only benefit the poachers my how things change.
Eco tourism would leave a lot of animals only to exist in National Parks. Witness the huge success of say the Tiger protection plan in India. no sarcasm intended;-] So much success that some conservationists are now openly suggesting that hunting them may be the only way left to save them.
Sorry but some limeys live in la la land. Thanks for the Oxford Group BTW.
Best move I made was leaving. Still an "old pommie B" but I lost the winge.
Buff thanks for doing your part for lion conservation. Sustainable managed hunting works.

I was mostly being an ass...... but years ago the locals killed or wounded the elephants if they damaged their crops. Zimbabwi now sells hunts for these same elephants. The locals no longer kill them onsight as they bring in much needed money and meat. I have a hunt booked for 2011 to try for one myself

You're a good man.. I don't want to start a debate on your thread, but I wouldn't have been man enough to answer somebody who asked "why did you kill it?" on a traditional bowHUNTING web site.
Great lion... I don't think I could've of done it without one of my PH's having a worn and well used double. To quote Capstick, those things "can run 40 feet faster then you can pronounce it."
Great trophy..

By the way,... Where did your other half go? Lookin' good bud...

Buff...Your videos have spoiled me as I continue to watch them over and over again. Have watched this particular video at least six times.
Thank you again for taking us along on another spectacular hunt.

Great job Marty on a thrilling hunt! That's one beautiful lioness. Tough as nails & a most worthy adversary. When the PH had their guns up, it looked tense.
