If any of you are thinking of going, read on! Three of us got back last week from a 14 day hunt with Allan Cillier's Hunting Safaris. One longbow, one recurve and a wheelbow and we shot 17 animals. If you want to shoot the big stuff; eland, gemsbuk, kudu, etc... Allan's place can not be beat. Lots of animals and lots of big stuff. I had at least 65 eland in front of me when I shot my brute of a bull. The food was fantastic and the Bushmen trackers are unbeleivable. If you are thinking about a trip, stop thinking and start planning. This is worth borrowing money and driving an 11 year old truck! That is how I did it and I have no regrets.

We need pictures Brian. :)

I've been to Africa 3 times. Twice in South Africa and once in Namibia. I LOVE namibia. I cannot wait to return.

Sorry guys, I am an idiot with this stuff. I have some photos on my computer but have no idea how to post. Help!
-
Look at the top of the pow wow and other sections. One or two of them have threads on how to do it.

Ok moderator types, I know this is not right so if they get pulled I understand!

Very nice animals! Now for the story!
Congratulations once again.

What a great collection of species you harvested...those memories will last a lifetime and I'm sure you'd love to get back there! :)

Short version of the story: After a rocky start things were great. My first shot on a gemsbuk is still a mystery. I did not think the shot was high enough to hit bone but that is the only explanation I have for the lack of penetration I exoerienced. We came up on the bull twice without another shot but eventually lost him when he joined up with a large group of gemsbuk. My next shot was too low on a nice kudu. I completely muffed this by failing the pick a spot.
I was really suffering following these two blunders. Some worldclass second guessing was going on. I was seriously considering birdwatching for the remainder of the trip. After a long restless night I decided to go back to the blind in the morning. I shot a couple doves that morning and convinced myself that my focus was the problem not my skill set. Long story short; after all that it was 4 shots and 4 drops! Exactly what we all want to see. I was most pleased with the eland that dropped within 70 yards of the blind.
I would love to talk to anyone that is thinking of going(I dearly love to tell others what to do!). I would do a number of things differently if I had a chance.
I will post one more photo of our trophies except 2 zebra a jackal and a baboon.

This is the three hunters and the trackers/skinners and most of our trophies

I was shooting a "Boss Bows" three piece longbow with wooden arrows from "Whispering winds". I had 135 gr magnus two blades behind 75 gr "Woody weights" on the front. The bow is about 70lbs at my DL.

nice critters :clapper:

Great pics thanks for sharing! I know what you mean about not picking a spot, for some reason I struggled with that a lot more in Africa than I do here.
-
Nice pics
Thanks for sharing!
-
fantastic hunt and that ole 'pick a spot' He he! it sure pays to wait until your heart slows down a bit before the shot, or else whack a couple of doves first! They're fast enough to calibrate your aim. Well done,

Great pictures! Looks like you hit that zebra perfect. Congrats!
-
Brian, was Allan there or was he hunting tuskers up on the strip?
Great pictures.
-
Congratulations and well done. I know the "beat yourself"feeling of shooting high or extremely low even at distances that one could almost touch them! I have also just returned from Agagia in Nam. Hopefully I will post a couple of pics up soon. Cheers. Siewho

Mark, Allan and Wayne were each in camp for a week when they were not out with Spanish tusk seekers!

Great pics thanks for sharing :campfire:

Wow Bao,
That set of Kudu horns in the middle, on the last pic is one serious set of horns. That must've been a beast! Can't be many Kudus left with a set like that. What were the credentials of that animal?
-
Wow, those are some nice critters
-
Awsome critters there sir  2 more payments on my heating system that went south last winter and I'm headed going back to SA.Thanks for keeping me inspired.
-
PZee, I think Paul's kudu was 53". We saw more than a few that were bigger than this. Paul Brunner shot a 62" kudu and a leopard with Allan and Wayne in (I believe) 2008.

Everything that BAO said is true about hunting in Namibia. DO IT! It's really not that hard to save for if you put a small amount of effort into it, and hunting in Africa just cannot be beaten in my opinion. I love hunting whitetails here in the states, and while they are still my favorite animal...I believe I could give up hunting them if I could hunt Africa each year.
Start a separate savings account. Just have $70 dollars or so per week automatically deposited into it out of your paycheck. You won't miss the money after a month or so. Before you know it... you will have enough money to hunt in Africa. EVERY serious bowhunter should experience Africa. Anyone can do it if they really want to!
-
Those pictures are awesome. I have every intention of going to SA within the next 10 years. Do you have the website for the outfitters you hunted with?
-
Did you get any opportunities to spot and stalk hunt with the San bushman? That is my ultimate bowhunting dream: spot and stalk for Kudu...
Here is the website for Alan's operation:
