I am heading to SA in the fall of 2012 also.
I would love to work a hunt into the trip as well.
This is something I will need to look into and SHS sounds like a great place to hunt.

I WISH I were going!  Believe me...as excited as you are...you cannot possibly be as excited as you would be if you KNEW how it was going to be!  I'm happy for you!  You deserve it I'm sure.  The only problem with going to Africa is that most people cant just do it once.  You will return trust me...you will return.

Headed to Namibia with Makalaan Safaris, leaving August 11th.  My first and probably my last trip, I won't live long enough to save up for another. RW

Just got back from South Africa. My first Hunt on the dark Continent… Harvested this Kudu Bull on first day ….. and nice Blue Wildebeest

It was a GREAT experience and the accommodations were fit for a king. The PHs and trackers are top notch. Game blinds are perfect for bowhunting and game is plentiful.

If anyone wants to know more about Hunt the Sun in So. Africa contact me at [email protected].

What was your setup, that appears to be a Bear takedown. poundage? arrow weight? broadhead? Thanks

Duncan,

I was shooting a Fred Bear TakeDown Recurve , 65 lb limbs but I short draw to about 25 1/2" so weight is around 59#,  arrows are 2212  Easton Cosmic Eclipse shafts tipped with 100 grn Magnus Classic 2 blade BHs. I fletched the shafts with three 5" parabolic cut goose feathers... Total arrow wt 480-500 grns.

The Magnus 2 blade BHs performed flawlessly.  They are strong and  cut on contact and cause much internal bleeding.  That helped us track and recover the wildebeest as I had hit him just outside the vitals. The Kudu was shot broadside in the center of the heart/Lung area. He ran about 200 yds and collapsed.
