Here are a few pictures of my first trip to Africa. I booked with Limpopo Big Game Safari in South Africa for a Cape Buffalo hunt. I even had a herd of Cape Buffalo Stamped me and my PH. I think he messed his shorts. We even chased a leopard at night with just our flash lights for about two hours. I went for ten days and after I got my Buff I went after other game. I had a blast. I made my longbow with James Berry who owns J.D. Berry Archery in Medical Lake, WA.
I went with James Vixen. Made out of Black Locust,#78 @ 28 1/2" 68". I made my arrows with Hickory I purchased from Bill at Alleghney Mountian Arrow Woods. Joe Furlong sent me a dozen 300 grain Tuffheads and they worked and flew perfect. My arrow weight was 1026 grains.
Thank you to James Berry, Joe Furlong, Bill.
Bob Burton, thank you for all your help and wisdom.

SWEET!!!
-
how far was your shot on the buff? how long was your stalk?
-
All fine trophys but that warthog is a beauty. Now you just have to wait for eveything to get over here. I came home last August and my stuff just got to my taxidermist last week.
-
It seems quite obvious this was a spectacular excursion. Would like to hear more.
-
Alot of great animals taken during your trip. If you get time, some details would be great. I don't know much about what constitutes as trophy, but that warthog looks awesome!

wow, looks like a great hunt...great shoooting...if I'm not mistaken is that one of James Schulz' custom quivers as well?

The Cape I shot at 13 steps and We stalked this bull and yes I was standing in the open. It was not a problem at all. He never charged, He and the other two bulls ran of as soon as my arrow hit.The Warthog I shot at eight to ten yards. Tusks measure 14 3/4". The Impala I shot at less than a yard and a half. NO KIDDING.He measure 24 3/8". My arrow never had time to straighten out. The Bushpig was a lot of fun and we hunted them at night. I shot him at twelve steps. from what I am told the Bushpig is a monster bore and I big trophy. The I dont care about the size of the animals I took. I never requested big animals. A trophy to me is an animal taken fairly. I am about the adventure and the friends I make not the rack size. I told Dennis Kamstra and Bossie Mostert, lets just go hunting and see what we find. We hunted five different ranches and we were all over Africa. It was fun but if you go take a note book and write it all down everyday. I did and my note book is probably my best trophy along with all my arrow I took my animals with. I did recover all my arrows and none of them broke. The Warthog arrow is another story in itself. Happy fouth of July gents.

Man...I love and compliment your ethic! First rate w/o exception!
Were your hickories 11/32" or 5/16"? Parallel or tapered? Did I see that you had a section of aluminum arrow collared (out-sert) just behind the Tuffhead?
Lifetime accomplishment...big slap on the back, well done!

Nice thread. As you know, I leave tomorrow, Charlie, and this is really firing me up!
-
Excellent!
-
Fantastic warthog! I chased them around for 4 trips and never saw one that nice! The bushpig is a great trophy - I'd rather have one over a trophy warthog any day!
You may have mentioned in the thread, but what was the measurement on the buff? I was scheduled to do a buff hunt in Zambia in 1999 - but that's another story.
Great hunt and congrats!
-
Talk about a hog monster Impala too! Well done. Bush pigs are rare.

Bush pigs are rare in the day but come night you sure can find the big ones. I had five come in and this bore was the first to turn broadside. I poked this one with a stick at 10:50 p.m.
