Post by: Dave Bowers on November 28, 2012, 10:35:00 PM
Hiya boys, I been eye ballin some single bevel broaheads while I do my planing for my trip to SA. I was wondering if anyone has used these broadheads for the african hunt? If so what where your thoughts on there performance?

Thanks

Buy 'em, take 'em and kill something with them and I'll put your hero picture on the Grizzly website Dave with these other African kills.

Dave:  I just got back from Africa in August.  I used the Kodiak head, worked very well. Shot some very large animals and had complete penetration on all of them shooting a 56# Recurve.  I mounted them on a 125gr. BHA, for a total point weight of 325gr. 100gr. brass inserts for a up front weight of 425 gr., shafts weighed around 680gr. or about 12gr. per lb. of bow weight. FOC of over 30, I was very pleased with this combination.
Now, dont even think of using them with anything less than KME sharp. Your PH and trackers will thank you alot.  RW

I have never been to Africa hunting, but I will tell you this. All the animals I have taken have fallen to a 190 Grizzly El Grandes. I have some more on the way from Bill, great heads and tough as nails

Grizzlies are good heads and I killed my kudu with them.  I'm not a big fan of having to glue the grizzlie on to a broadhead adapter as its just another place for something to fail.  Having said that I've never had any problems, and I've stuck some of their heads into the ground and bounced them off rocks and logs with no serious damage.

I've also killed big stuff with VPA's, as far as brute strength goes I'd take the VPA over any other head ive seen although theirs aren't single bevel.  The tanto point is also pretty wide, too much so for us trad guys I think, so I got out the file and changed that!  I suppose some time spent with a file could turn them into single bevels too.
