Title: Namibia KE requirements
Post by: Hermon on April 11, 2014, 11:23:00 AM
I have read on Bowhunting Safari Consultants website that Namibia has Kinetic Energy requirements for each class of animal.  For Kudu their chart says 60 ft/lb of KE.  I would need a 75-80# bow to achieve that according to Stu's Calculator.

For those that have hunted Namibia, do they check your set up for KE?

Any thoughts as to bow/arrow combinations for Kudu?

I have the same question.

Siewho who is a member here, a Namibia bowhunter with trad gear and a very knowledgeable guy will hopefully give me an idea.

Cheers

Just found out that trad bows 40, 50 ect pounds are fine. The best thing to do is to contact the safari operator and discuss their requirments for clients.

I guess with the 50s and under a 12 grains per pound or higher set up would be ideal. If your a gapper then practice those figures!

Happy hunt in Nam.

I normally shoot mid 50#'s and around 11-12 gpp.

Thanks for the input Daniel.

I was there last year and the PH very much looked over my trad gear with the sharpest of eyes as he was not really sold on the abilities of trad gear on African animals.

After this we went straight to the practice butt where he wanted to see me shoot  with the same arrow/BH combo that I was planning to hunt with.

Luckily enough I had done my fare share of practice months before flying out so I was hitting what I wanted to hit out to 35 yards and grouping well.

My set up was a 62# recurve with 700+ grain arrows with a mixture of TuffHead and Grizzly BH.
