been think about getting a widow psr takedown. i see where you can get your widow on the exact weight for an extra price. if you don't pay extra how often do they hit it? are they usualy closer than 2#. also the ironwood/bamboo model v. can you tell a differance in smoothness. not really worried about a couple of fps, but if it were smoother. also is the ironwood a little heavier?
thanks b

I think the ironwood/bamboo is worth the extra cost because it is a more efficient bow and smoother drawing. I happen to have a 65# SA2 and a 60# PMAV that both shoot the same arrow at the same speed. Granted the bows are not identical except for the limb material, but I believe that is what accounts for the difference in efficiency. I've never actually weighed the bows, but my impression is that the ironwood makes the V a little heavier.
Your first question is a dangerous question. What if they hit the mark 90% of the time? That's fine unless your bow was in the 10% where they didn't. I always order my bows plus or minus 1 pound, with my ideal weight in the middle, because I doubt if I could tell a 1 pound difference.

I have a PSAV, PSAIII, and a PTFX. The PTFX and the PSAV have the bamboo. I think the bamboo does make the bows smoother on the draw, and every test I have seen shows that you pickup about 2 to 5 FPS. That is also what the Widow Boys will tell you the pickup is also. My PTFX and PSAIII both have the Asbell grip, the PSAV has the standard grip. I perfer the Asbell grip. The ironwood is heavier. All my Widows are 58", I pull about 27 1/2 inches.
They have hit weight on everyone of my bows. I also order them + or - one lb.
If I had to pick one to go to the woods with, it would be the PTFX, all bacote. The SAIII is going with me to Florida in about 2 weeks (flying and need a takedown).

My PSA III came in right on the money, and my PL III and PSR III came in within one pound. You're really going to like that PSR!

Black Widow says +-2# unless you pay extra so I would think it will be within that, always. Mine is marked to be right on the money 50# which is what I ordered. I had a used iron wood bow that was a few lbs heavier so couldnt compare speed but I did feel it was smother. I sold it because I like the Ashebel grip on the new one better.
You cant go wrong with BW.

I ordered the last Widow +/- 2 pounds (standard) and it came in one pound high.
I've just ordered another set of limbs and paid the extra $25 to get the one pound variance.
I went from a standard Widow to the X model (with a bamboo limb core) and I can't say that I saw much difference. I went to the higher cost bow just to get the limb veeners that I wanted.

Mine came in with in 1 pound. I havent pulled every bow out there but my ironwood is the smoothest bow ive pulled. In fact when i first got it i had to put it on a scale because i did not belive it could be 53# but it was right on.

I ordered a PL111 51@28 and it came 53@28.

I've ordered 9 widows over the last 11 years. All but one made weight. The one bow that wasn't, a (LAG) was over by 2lbs.

it could be like some bowers, who mark the bow at whatever ya order lol!! but i have ordered my widows within 1 lb, i just dont like having basicly a 4 lb window..

I"ve got a psa v ironwood model and it came within one pound of what i ordered. I cant tell the differenc with one pound. you cant go wrong with a widow, it is very smooth and the guys at widow take their bow making very seriously. Todd

I've owned 7 Black Widows. 4 of them I bought new from BW. 1 of mine came in at exact weight and the other 3 were all 2 pounds under what I ordered. It doesn't bother me, but if I were to want a bow at a certain weight, I'd pay the extra to make sure it is there. I feel the bamboo is smoother, but can't tell much in the speed department. I now opt for the ironwood or exotic only because I like the look of em better...Mike

I've ordered 4 from BW over the last 8 years (MA111, MAV, PLX Kingwood and PSRX Bocote). All but the MAV were the exact weight I ordered, The MAV was 1 pound light. I never paid extra for the weight. I think, this is only a guess, that if you order a common weight (45,50,55,60) you will have a better chance of getting exact than if you order an off weight (53,56,58,94). All of mine were ordered 55# @ 28.5". At any weight, you will get a great shooting bow!

I've had several Widows over the years...MA, SA, SAV, LAG, PL and most recently a new (to me) PSRX in Bocote. In my humble opinion, this is the best Widow I have ever shot. Smooth draw (49# @ 28" and 60" OAL) and very accurate with no shock at all. I actually received it about 2 weeks ago and unboxed it, shot about 15 arrows out of her and took her to the woods that afternoon. That is how confident I was with her. Didn't see anything but I felt if the opportunity arose, I would be able to close the deal.
Don't think you could go wrong at all with the PSR. Widow Customer Service is second to none, also.
Best of luck.

Remember that you only pay $25 for +/- 1 pound of what you order. You pay $75 extra for having BW hit your weight EXACT! For no extra charge, BW guarantees within 2 pounds. I love Black Widow Bows! They and the men behind the company are first-class.

I just bought a used SAV 51@28 and I love it. Very smooth to draw and shoot, I'm sold on the bamboo. I've also owned other Widow models through the years. For me, I only shoot Widows and am perfectly happy with them. Good luck to all you guys.
