Have two of these. :D Might just make it my project at Mojam 04. I'm sure I could get some help and opinions on building a good snake bow there.
Mike...OK
Osage Stave (http://www.hunt101.com/img/094893.jpg)

Mike, what is it you have?
Mac~

Mike,
I just got a call from the Hinge and he said those where his staves and you were to put one back into his junk pile and send the other one to me. He said something about them not being worth of your artistic workmanship and that only a hack like myself should be allowed to work of something so discusting :bigsmyl:

Someday I`ll find a super straight piece of osage and try a bow..Leave that snakey stuff to y`all
-
Hey Mike. I've got a similar piece of 'sage in my shop. Only it's got a lot of prop-twist to go along with the snakey grain. I thought about posting a picture of it and offering it as a challenge to anyone who wanted to give it a try. I don't have enough blood pressure medicine left to try it myself.
-
Mike I can't see anything.
-
Pic ain't workin for me either Mike
Mac~

It was visible an hour back. Try the link. It is working for me right now.
Mike...OK

Now I have it Mike. See you are trying to jumpstart the job. Just had my wife look at this. I tell her all men keep their workbenches like this because we remember where we put things last. I think she believes me now. Thanks Mike. Now that's one crooked piece of wood.. Mac~

Ooooo ! I like that !

Wait a minute,
Seein' how Mike Hames is my best friend, and
Seein' how I've seen Mike's workbench (and JohnBow's) and
Seein' how that aint it, and
Seein' how I've been through the three tons of Osage that Mike has around his house and
Seein' how I've never run across a piece of 'sage of Mike's that didn' have 1/4" growth rings, and straight as an arrow,
WE MUST HAVE AN IMPOSTER IN OUR MIDST!
Mike would never hold out something like this on me,...on the Hinge maybe,...but not me!
Terry, hmmm, how do I report a malicious post again?
:smileystooges:
Hey Ralph, check out this character posing as Mike!!
-
This is bad. Here I am slobbering all over myself looking at Brother Randy's snake bow. Dropping hints all over the place and Mikee has (TWO) of those in his garage!!! Couldn't be Mike. Me, with the lightweight takedown, drowing his sorrows in WT, and the cure for my miseries is in Mikee's garage. Gotta be an imposter, Mikee wouldn't let me suffer this long. Oh Terry, -9 for here tonight, NY ain't the only cold place. You got wool!!! KsBow
-
Wow, nice stave. Put a chain and lock on that puppy. :)

Yuse guys only get to see what I want you to see.
True, not my workbench. This bench is a little south of Norman in a underground dwelling, something like a bunker where choice wood is stored. I was getting some ideas from the Master when this photo was taken.
Ralph, you got one from the log this came from and worked on it last year at Mojam.
Terry, why do you think I keep the attic door closed all of the time.
I think the log that I salvaged from the May, 99 tornado may have some billets better than this one. We'll see. Might have to drag it home from work where I keep it under lock and key. No one there even suspects what "That Damn Log" is for.
Nice a balmy here today. Hit 56 just before I left work.
Hope you found some firewood Terry.
Ralph, close the dang door and quit letting that cold air come down here.
Mike..OK
-
Mike, curious as to what kind of stuff that white powder is? Looks like.....well the kind of stuff one might use to make a piece of wood look that crooked :bigsmyl: !
-
Powder Horn dust. Had just finished making a powder horn to go with possibles bag for shooting smokepoles. That crap that comes out those horns will make you see things. Sure stinks too.
Will need some kool snake skins for this one.
RainCrow, me thinks that cold up there is effecting your memry.
Think JD and I might work on some bows this Friday night. HAH
Mike...OK
-
Now Mikee that's so cold that even cut rate wool camo wouldn't shield Terry enough. You and JD making yeller dust without Raincrow there. Mikee, you mean that's Old Number 100's relative? See you helped me out at the bandsaw and then cabbaged onto big brother of 100. Is that how it worked? Shoot the door is closed, you're just gettin what coming through the cracks. Ralph :readit:
-
Say Mike what would it take to get a pair of billets you were talking about that were better than that stave? Do My best Hinge impersonation and act deleriously pathetic and come down to and do my best at attempting to clean out the freezer and refrigerator and only leave when I'm bribed with some of that wood of gold :bigsmyl:

Nice snake. How many of you use batteries on your selfbows like that? Does it make 'em faster?
-
ARE YOU GUYS KIDDIN ME? You are really gonna make a bow outta that?!?!?! HOLY MOLEY!!! I walk straighter than that board after sippin on Crown Royal all day! This I gotta see. Please post pics; maybe a buildalong?!?
-
OHHH I see the photo NOW! That is an AWESOME piece of wood Mike. Congrats! Wood like that is hard to come by. I can see a bow laid out in there (pencil lines) how close do the tips and handle come to lining up? I am seriously jealous.
-
Hey Mickey, was that Bob Barnes that had that very cool snakey piece at mojam last year?Had about 10 turns per limb? I'd love to see the bow out of that one!
-
Timo yea Bob had it and I think he's trading it to JD for something.
-
Man, I gotta find a piece of that stuff this summer. Hopefully I'll be fully mobile for MoJam and will be able to dig around a bit more than last year.
