Title: Looking to get started
Post by: Matt Stuckey on January 02, 2008, 08:55:00 AM
I'm planning to head up to Kalamazoo for the Expo to pick up a longbow to get started with.  I intend to build my own, and have started a board bow, but have not made the time to get it finished.  I've drug my feet long enough that I've missed a few seasons while finishing grad school, but I will soon be done and am very anxious to return to the woods.  I shot a bow with training wheels through highschoolalthough i shot it trad style, no pins and canted.  I  didn't think people would take well to shooting on campus, so i put it away and don't plan to go back to it.

Back to the original topic, what can i expect at Kalamazoo, I don't want to spend a lot of money, would I be able to find anything there under $150.  I'm looking for a longbow between 45#-50# to start with,  a draw length of over 28.  Last time I shot regularly was with a recurve in an archery class and I had to be careful not to draw the 29in. arrows off the rest anchoring at the corner of my mouth.

Thanks
I've been lurking here for a long time and know I'll get some good info.

The last few years there has been one or two vendors as you first walk in that have a large selection of used bows. Don't stop just there as many of the vendors have bows they have taken in trade or are selling for others that may be in that price range. Being from Colombus you may want to ask a Michigan man for some expert advice  :bigsmyl:

I'm in Columbus by default, the commute to OSU is a long one from northwest Ohio.  i can't wait to get out of here and return back there in June.  I'll be about 30 minutes from 3 Rivers.
