Title: Ten Ring Strings
Post by: A.S. on December 20, 2012, 01:41:00 PM
We are proud to offer both Fast Flite and non-Fast Flite strings. All strings are pre stretched to 300#s to insure short break in time and low creep after strung.

Our standard FF string is built with 18 strands of Brownell Fury with padded loops. However, I will gladly adjust the strand count upon request.

String prices are:
"FastFlite"   $20
"Dacron"      $15
single set of catwhiskers or yarn puffs $3
Double whiskers (Double Katz)  $6
shipping      $3 per order

Ordering info: please email, PM, or call me directly to order.

Payment: order directly through my website:

tenringstrings.com

or, send a check made out in my name to:

Allen Shafer
52 Fox Hollow Rd.
Ruckersville, Va 22968

String length:  I ask that you give me the ACTUAL string length as measured off the bow. Just hang your string on a nail and pull it out straight to give me the total length.

Serving: Our standard serving is sized to fit most modern nocks. If you have a special request, please let me know. I serve the strings by measuring up from the center of the string 4", then serve from that point down 7". If you would like something different, just ask.

Loop size: here are pics of my standard loop sizes:

recurve loops on the left and longbow on the right

Hill style longbow loops

I can adjust these as necessary if need be.

Nock points: I include adjustable tie-on nock point for free upon request. If you don't do your own, I highly recommend these. Just twist them up/down to tune, then add a bead of super glue to lock them in place. I currently have the following colors of nock point thread: red, flo orange, and silver.

EFFECTIVE 1/15/13    $3 shipping per order

We have all our in stock colors of Brownell Fury and B50 listed on our site.  We carry 17 colors of both materials.

We also carry a limited supply of D97 and Ultra Cam. Please contact me if you are interested in these materials.

Here is an example of our catwhiskers. This is red/black. We can mix any two of our in stock colors per whisker ball.

On our single whisker sets, each ball is 1 1/2". On our Double Katz (two pair of whiskers per string), each ball measures 1 1/4"

I now have Brownell Rhino in black, red and grey.

I have been testing it since Oct. I have found that it works best with 12 strands. This is a very durable and QUIET material. I will be adding more colors soon.

Here is a recent email from a happy customer!

I got in and shot another 75 arrows off of your bow string this afternoon.  I am really impressed with your workmanship and with the Fury material.  Below is an e-mail that I sent out to the guys in the traditional club last night...

I got in my 18 strand Fury string from Allen Shafer yesterday.  They are supposed to be pre-stretched but I put one on a 60 pound bow and left it over night anyway.  I was surprised when I checked brace height this afternoon and it hadn't changed a bit. A 56" string gave me my desired 8 1/4" brace height straight from the package with no adjustments.  I usually let a bow stay strung for several days and let the string stretch some before setting it up and usually have to put several twists in it to get it to the desired brace height.

I stuck the string on the Bear TD I have been shooting lately and then slapped some cat whiskers on it this afternoon and tied on a nocking point. Went out and shot 50 arrows.  Some observations....

This is without a doubt the best made bow string I have ever put on a bow.  It is a Flemish string but the ends look completely different. like their is an extra braid in it or something.  The ends definitely looked more finished.  The loops are perfect.  Not oversized as a lot of strings are.  Tight enough that if they were any tighter you wouldn't be able to get the bottom loop over the limb tip and the top loop wouldn't slide down to unstring. The center serving fits my nocks perfectly.  He actually asked what nock I shot and wanted the string to fit. At the end of fifty shots, the brace height was still perfect...hadn't stretched a bit.

Fury is definitely a different animal. I set the string up exactly as I had the FF string that I took off the bow this afternoon...same brace height and exact same nocking point. The arrows that were flying like darts now have a slight wiggle.  They are just a touch weak off of this set up. Either due to the string make up or the string material, my arrows are now a touch weak, which tells me that this string is getting a little more performance out of the bow. The Fury string is also slicker, almost shinny like a plastic. I don't know if this is actually the string material or the wax he uses when building them.  It is supposed to conform better and make a more rounded string than some of the other materials.

There is a definite difference in the sound of the bow.  I don't know that it is quieter, but certainly not any louder....  just different.  More of a low pitched "whump". Of course my Bears are routinely quieter than most of the other bows I have worked with. I would have no problem toting this set up into a tree stand for whitetails tomorrow morning.

I have to say,  I am pretty impressed.  A great looking, well made string.  I seem to be getting a little more speed out of the bow and it is certainly not noisy. He makes a better looking string than XXXXXXX does, costs only a little more and he has a website I can order from instead of calling and then having to mail a check like I do with XXXXX  I am going to shoot this string for the next week or two to see if there is a down side.  If not, I will probably pick up several to restring my bows.

Another email from a very happy customer.

And,  I gotta tell you -  you make a fine string sir!  I have been shooting longbows and recurves since getting my first back in 1969 -  and I've never had a string of any sort (low stretch material or not)  that has impressed me as much as yours.
Great craftsmanship and attention to detail.
I put the last string I got from you on a Howard Gamemaster that I'd tried 4 other strings with every tuning adjustment,  and it just wouldn't behave like I wanted it to. It was still noisy and for lack of a better word "twangy".
With very little tuning needed -  your string turned it into one of my favorite bows to shoot!

Let me know if you need anything for the nocks.

Thanks again -

We love happy customers!     :archer:

Here is another recent email from a happy archer:

Allen -

Strings arrived and all 3 are on bows and shooting beautifully!
It's been a real surprise (after over 40 years without) to see/feel how much better behaved these bows shoot with your Fury strings.
I enjoy tuning each of my bows to get the shooting characteristics I like the best - so I'm comparing your strings to well made,  tuned to the bow, quality strings built by some excellent string makers.  All aspects of your strings are outstanding,  including the extras - the tie on nocks and string puffs.
String building is about the only archery thing I haven't jumped into - yet ...
The extra zip on the arrow is nice too - but it's the quiet , shock free release that I am more than happy with!
If you remember,  the last string of the 3 on this order was for my son's 1984 Bear Green Stripe Takedown.  He just called me after shooting it a bit - and to say he is happy is an understatement!
Troy, my son, hasn't hunted with me for a couple of years as he and Julie (daughter in law) had a little girl almost 2 years ago.

I am looking forward to this MN whitetail season more than usual (which is saying alot) - and your string has Troy even more wound up to get into the woods then he already was  :)

If you want to use this as a customer review - feel free - If not , that's ok too .

Thanks again Allen , always a pleasure doing business with you.
