Sounds like fun :bigsmyl: Sorry I'm going to be missing it this year. :(
-
Linc, we missed ya.....I gotta feeling that the guys that stayed over to hunt again today are going to be a little tired, I know I am, couldn't find my brush pants yesterday morning and now today my legs look like pin cushions from all the rose bushes. Shawns got some nice places to hunt.. some places so thick you can't see more that 10 ft in front of ya, but they hold the rabbits...it should be a little easyer time today, I think Swampbuck was bringing his dog, so that will help out a bunch. go get em' fella's :D

Larry~
Sounds like ya left a good blood trail..... :bigsmyl:
-
Larry, thanks for the report. I thought about everybody all day yesterday, more especially when I stepped outside and the sun was shining and the air crisp. Good day for bunnies. Sorry to hear none were suicidal. I's sure there will be pics tonight. thanks for posting............Mac~

Great Time at the hunt. I had to come home last night due to family obligations today, wish I could have stayed the entire weekend. Shawn and his parents deserve a round of applause for hosting such a great event. Wish both Mac and Linc could have made it, I was looking forward to meeting you.
The prehunt festivities were a blast. There were targets for warm-up and novelty shots. There was a steel plate with about a 3 inch hole in the center to shoot through and break a balloon. Let me tell you, there were some great shooters there that made that shot. There were also a number of arrows that didn't quite make it :bigsmyl:

great pics guys, I'm already lookin foward to next year. Yeah, I'm still bewildered about that one I hit, musta been some kinda bionic bunny, LAR43 witnessed the shot, I'm not one to judge distances, but I think he was between 20-25yrds out in some real thick stuff, threaded the arrow through it and thought I'd shot him dead, in fact he laid there dead for about thirty seconds, then the bionics kicked in and he took off up the knoll and a hundred yards or more across the field. and yes, Bark Eater, I left more of a blood trail than he did.

My hat off once again to Shawn and his family. This is my 2nd year and I did not think I could have more fun and share more comraderie(?) than last year..
The day went by faster than two winks and I think almost all of us had some very good shot opportunites. At one point I asked Shawn's dad (we should all have his capabilities --the man busts thru brush like you were going to get the paper) what his secret to his venison stew was and he replied "nothing to it" and went on to explain..
Great time..I am looking forward to next year..
thanx again to Shawn and his family,
Mark :bigsmyl:
-
So none of the rabbits were suffering from severe depression this year..........Mac~
-
perhaps they will find some suicidal rabbits today.......

What a great hunt.
It was a pleasure meeting you all. Shawn and his family treated us all like family, what great hosts.
Too bad I couldn't get over there today. Rabbit hunting paradise.

I'm Home and we scored one bunny. A combined effort of Guru and Whapiti Chaser. I'm sure pics will follow tomorrow.

Well.. this was my first time on the Bunny Hunt! And it will definitely be one of my most memorable hunt days ever! Had a Blast! What a Great Day!
To Shawn and his Mom and Dad... Thank You for the wonderful time and hospitality! And making this Bunny Hunt possible.
For fear of missing anyone... I just want to say to all you Bunny Hunt Trad Gangers.. It was a pleasure and fun meeting you all. A real fine group of Ladies and Gentlemen.
God Bless you all until we meet again.
-
Here is a shot video of shooting some moving targets. Pretty poor quality since it was shot with my digital still camera. Guru has some better video he shot.
Moving shots (750 K) (http://www.tradgang.com/dh/snybh05.wmv)
-
Figures you guys would get a bunny just after I left! Nice shooting!
I had two shots on Sunday... don't know if they made it into the total or not.
It was an absolute BLAST meeting everybody and I'd like to say "Thank you" once again to Shawn and his folks for having all of us!
Oh, I'm still pulling thorns out of myself!
-
OUCHHHHHH!!!!!!! OK How many of us can hardly move this morning LOL!!!!!!! I've got muscles that I didn't even know I had are hurting this morning!!! Next year I'm doing both days!!! I have not had that much fun since September 1977, "THE GREAT ADIRONDACK BEAR HUNT" 11 of us highschool buddies,16-19 years old,for 6days at a camp at Schroon Lake NY. No Bears But TONS of FUN!!!!!!!
Thanks Again to Shawn and his Dad and Mom. ALSO... A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Shawns wife, who helped with the cooking,(and I know she was cleaning up after us) and for putting up with our motly crew of TradGangers. Shawn you are TRUELY BLESSED my friend,She is a VERY SPECIAL LADY!!!
I would also like to thank everyone who donated prizes, and I would like to add that our raffle raised $300 for the St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
Here's To Next Year!!! Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
"OUCHHHHHH!!!!!!! OK How many of us can hardly move this morning LOL!!!!!!! "
You ain,t kiddin LOL!! I think many of us were leaking(blood) before all was said and done LOL Guru took one to the eye lid on the last drive and many of us were ripped up somewhere
Thanks again to Shawn and his parents!!
-
I am still sore, and am now watching the snow fall, meaning I'll have to go fight with the snowblower at some point today. Here's some of the damage from the last couple of days.
I know there's a lot more human blood was drawn that bunny blood, but what a great time it was.
I know I've said it already, but thank you Shawn, and Jake for having all of us for the weekend. And thanks to all that were there over the two days, it was awesome to meet you all, and if you are ever in the area of southeastern New Hampshire, you are always welcome at my home.
David
-
Little stiff this morning lots of those marks on my hands legs and neck and head. Next time I will wear brush pants for sure.
I was having bunny dreams last night little lightning fast forms threading through the thick brush.
-
What a day and night. I got home around 7:30 last night only to realize I left my truck keys and wallet back at Shawns Dad's house! So...8:30 I took off for Albany again..I'm exhausted, nursing many scratches, still pulling thorns out and my left eye still has "sumpin" in it from when I crawled through those briars. Another great time, great fellas, the super great Leonard family for putting up with all of us and I even managed to get off 2 shots on the last drive of the day. I can't wait to see the pics of Sunday's crew....those Albany rabbits are pretty tough...I watched one get "thumped" by a 75# bow, nutter arrow at close range. The bunny rolled over, righted himself and took off...never to be seen again! Time to finish my coffee and start shoveling...
-
Wow It's over already. Thanks to Shawn and his parents. They are great hosts and welcomed us into their home with open arms. Shawn, you did a great job and raised $300.00 for St Judes at the same time !! It's great to meet fellow Trad Gangers and get to hunt and shoot with everybody.
Thanks Again Shawn and family !!!
-
Shawn did you ever find Ben ?
-
Bob,I saw that he did in another post.
I,d like to thank whom ever it was that donated the back quiver that I ended up winning :D it will replace the one I have thats held together with duct tape.
Actually thanks to everybody it was a great time many donated to the cause and we got 300 for St Judes.
Congrads to Bob for connecting just seconds before Curts arrow anchored the same bunny.Of course I think Bob gave it a heart attack on his first shot, which was almost self defense LOL,the rabbit fell over to escape the first shot Bob turned loose only to not go far and meet his maker
Sonny did okay there was times when he pushed the bunnies the wrong way(they ran away from the drivers with the dog in pursuit instead of towards the sitters lol)many bunnies slipped out the back. It,s hard to push bunnies one way when a bellering beagle is in front of them.
-
When I left last night, Ben was still running them. He was really sounding off way down past the air strip. LOL.
Bryan
-
Any more pics?, bummed that i missed it this year :(
-
sleepyhollow, we missed ya, Curt's got more pics, I'm sure he'll post some....Joe, you're right, them are some tuff bunnies, like I said, I think they're bionic. Shawn, thanks for putting this hunt together, and a big thank you to your parents for hosting us. really, what a great time. and it was good to meet some new faces as well seeing some of the guys from last year.
larry
-
Thanks guys, but like I said it is all of you that made this one very memorable weekend. I knw the shot total was at least 82 and a ton of near misses. One of my favorite moments was when we were gathered in a field while waiting or the rest of the group and David says to Curt I will bet ya $2 you can't hit the feeder, and Bryan(Recurver)chimes in I give ya ten bucks. Well it had to be about 60yds,and Curt saysd I will take that bet and I say "Yeah, but put a hole in it and I get the money" Curt pulls back and lets it fly and Twang he glances one of the thing and says "There I hit it and didn't put a hole in it!". The money went into the ST. Judes pot!! I want to Thanks David and Curt who cooked up a little something, which was a bow made by David and some arrows Curt did for my Dad. My Dad and I talked about the hunt later and how good it made us both fell and we shared a tear as my Dad said what a great group of guys you all were and how it was the best time he has had since last years hunt. He(my Dad) is my best friend and We are both looking forward to hosting this again next year!!! I think everone had a great time and we not only hunted we killed a bunny and plenty of stumps, balloons, sticks and leaves along the way. Greg, Lars43's son put a hurtin' on one with a nutter from a 75# bow and it rolled over and kept going. I also found Ben last night around 7. Dad and I drove down back and yelled a few times and he was still runnin bunnies but finally gave up and came in. It is 4 now and he has only been off the couch once. It took us a day of huntin' but we figured out that if we did smaller pushes we blocked the rabbits pretty good and they exploded at the end. The first day I come walking out of a piece all bloody and I see Curt handing Mark Fedrizzi and arrow and I was like whats up with that and Mark said he had emptied his quiver as 5-6 rabbits ran by. I want to THANK EVERYONE for making this weekend one of the best of my life!!!! OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
-
Shawn the thanks really need to go to you and your family, including your wife, who not only lets you do this, but ran around for us getting lunches ready for us. What is it you kept saying, something like, "she's a good lady"? You hit that right on the head. Your mom and dad, my god, opening their house for the weekend to all of us and pretty much giving it up. I don't know what to say about that, it goes a long way in describing what type of people they are. You, all you did was organize the entire event, got permissions from landowners, and then drove every single piece yourself. Amazing. Nope, the thanks belong to you and yours for everything you did, so here it is, THANK YOU.
I am already planning to be there for next years hunt!!!!
David
-
Shawn, wish i could have made both days once again thanks to you and your family.I can,t remember having that much fun in a long time.I know it takes a lot of work to set that up,and you and your family did a great job. There was smiles all over the place.I,ll see you march 6th friend........ED
-
I know this is redundant, but thanks again Shawn, Mom, and Pop for a wonderful weekend and memories that will last a lifetime.
-
Shawn, Glad to hear that Ben came home. Last I saw him he was running a rabbit back where Meat hit that one. I figured he probelly caught it and had a nice little dinner. We ran into a little snow on the way home but still made good time. That Shrew is sweet !!! A Shrew is now on my dream bow list. I think it's on Tom's too. Speaking of Tom he won the back quiver and a knife in the drawing. He didn't even think about it and handed me the knife and said it's yours I can share. Thanks Tom.
-
Oh ya my Daughter was shooting the bow Shawn gave me today. I asked her what she thought of it she said I think it's mine !!!
-
Bob, glad ya got a shooter for the bow!! I also wanted to Thank "Mo" for coming. The only lady on the hunt and she puts up with a lot from us guys!! Mo it is always a pleasure!! I thought we would hear from Curt but he may be blind in one eye(just kidding)after going through the multi-flora rose and getting a thorn in his eye lid. It looked bad at first, but we wiped the blood away and continued on. He is my type of hunter!! I know Meat had a good time and I am pretty sure we got his bunny, because as Bob said, when we found him he was real fat and more proof, he puked up a bunch of bunny fur twice today. I also want to say after all the kind words "Your Welcome!!!" Shawn

We also had a prize table, if ya broke a balloon, or hit an aeriel, or a bouncing foam disk, you picked a prize. We had nutters with 2005 Tradgang Bunny Hunt on them and 2005 Southeren NY Bunny Hunt, we had nocks, knives, guttin' gloves, shafts(which I won) and leather for handles, broadheads, you name it we had it!! It made for a great two days and I am looking forward to the next one!! OOOHHHHHH YEAHHH !! Shawn

Couple of funny things came to mind....
I came upon Pop in a super thick bottom you couldn't move in any direction let alone shoot other than between your own feet and Pop asks me, "what are you doing?" I said "I am pushing what are you doing?" he says "I am watching." I say "well have you seen anything?"
Curt mentioned David's bow reminded me when he was pushing that thick bottom and we were all on the hillside wathcing he throws his bow out of the multiflora rose, cusses and then climbs out of that mess. Those bushes can be frustrating.
Speaking of Curt's little misshap it was almost funny listening to the whole thing. David and I were up on the hill and we hear "ooh ahhh my eyelid." Ouch!! That had to hurt and I could see Bob crawling through that crap.
I hope Ben did get that bunny he pushed it by me and stayed right on it after I hit it. I think that is the same bunny he was on when we last saw him. Shoulda used something that would stick a little better. I thought I had him pinned but then he shook off the arrow.
Good stuff.
-
.........A picture tells a thousand words.................................................................thanx Curt..
Mark
-
I was at a point in that rose bush where I had just had it, so first the bow went out, then I busted through.
Curt and his eyelid, talking about when it happened, "I screamed like a girl"
Meat on the same drive, shooting an arrow between the legs of a streaking bunny at ten yards.
Greg, also on the same drive, driving a nutter through a bunny with a 75 lb recurve, nocking it for a loop, then the bunny getting up and running, never to be seen again.
David
-
Getting ready for another push. That's Larry(Lar43) to the left,he's a fine gentleman and talented too!! He donated the nicest knife I have ever seen and he made it!!
Larry with his trophy clump of fur that he took off a bunny. But it was one of those "bionic" ones and it got away.I heard the thump when he hit it,that bunny should have died!!!

-
Thanks Curt !!!!
-
Nice buddy, Thanks!! Shawn
-
Shawn, Check out the Griffin the guy has on the blanket. That bow is all you.
-
I think Shawn went out earlier in the week and handed out flack jackets to the critters. I was starting to feel underbowed at 54# lol.
Next year the pruning nippers are a must have!

-
Jeremy, it was good meetin ya and being able to loose some arra's with ya. Don't know if you guys noticed or not, but there's a young fella with some seriouse potential, you keep that bow in your hand and in a few years you'll be shootin the flea's off them rabbits
geesh, that made me sound old.........
larry
-
Thanks everyone,I like taking pics, though sometimes it's tough to do both.
Video came out pretty cool.I'll send to Tom M and he can pick out something to put something together for the site.
Didn't get many good pics Sunday. My camera doesn't do well in cold weather.Sat. I had it in a pouch on my belt with 2 handwarmers(and still got some blurry pics).Sun. I couldn't find my other 2 hand warmers,so most were to blurry to use.
Here's the last one from day one
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/curtsstuff078.jpg)
That's Recurver,Lar43,and Larrys son Greg bringing up the rear
The one thing that really stinks about something like this is that there are so many intresting people around and so little time to spend with them.Really wish I could get to know you all a lot better!!! I'm proud to be a part of such a fine group.
I'll add the last couple I got on day 2 later...
-
...Oh,about my eye...I was on my hands and knees bullin and was trying to get up when the maneaters reached out and grabbed me from all directions. And yes one caught me real good in the eyelid and I couldn't move!!! As my friends would have said.."the bitch came right out of ya"
Withing seconds the blood was flowing and had filled my left eye up with so much blood I couldn't see out of it.Had to get out of that patch with one eye,to a spot where Shawn could check it out.He looked at it,I wiped away the blood and kept on going. There were still bunny in front of us!!!!! Now I know what a boxer feels like when they say they can't see the punches coming after getting cut over the eye.
-
Curt, you are right there,Every time us trad guys and girls get together friendships are made. Not to knock the wheel guys but since i came over to trad i have made some good friends and had some great times, like this past weekend.Everybody is down to earth and willing to help.......ED
-
Curt, someone should have got a pic of ya after that, between the one across your forehead Saterday, and the one in your eyelid Sunday, I'm bettin you looked like a true warrior.
Guru, the rabbit Warrior

A few people have asked why I have makeup on.My left eyelid is some real pretty shades of purple ;)
-
Meat, I don't believe 'em, I never heard you snore once, not once I tell ya. That room was as quiet as can be the whole night.
David
-
Curt--Next year you have to post in the "gauntlet" and I (will do my best) along with the others to get you some nice shot opportunities like you guys/gals did for me....excellent spot......
P.S. - I hate wearing eyeglasses but they do come in handy every now and then
-
Mark, That's where Bob killed the bunny.David(huntrdfk) was in your spot on the bottom,in from the end,and Wapiti chaser(Bob) was at the end, down by the creek, right on the edge of the open woods. When Shawn and I(we pushed the same as the day before,we were the 2 closest to the creek) got to David,he said that there were a few in the piles in front of him.Shawn got them moving and I saw one heading straight for Bob.I yelled to him and ran up to make sure it didn't get back thru.Bob said it stopped in the pile between him and I,we both pinched in on it.Bob said "there he is",as he said that I saw it,started to draw, just about to full draw and hear..Twang,thud,see the blur of Bobs arrow, and hear..I got h...And I released and sent a judo through the bunny up to the feathers!! Bobs arrow and mine were just about touching, his had gone in about 4 inches(also a judo). My arrow was definatly not needed, his shot was good and that bunny was going nowhere.Like Shawn said earlier, they were maybe 2 seconds apart.
It was nice to be apart of it!! Congrats Bob :notworthy:

Curt, I was surprised that judo stopped in the rabbit. He had just turned and started to go away from me. The shot went in from behind and angled up. I guess I need more poundage, 58lb's just isn't enough for those rabbits. Sounds like good reason to order a new bow !!!! The weekend went by so quick. But guys are already talking about next year. I spent about three hours pulling thorns out of Sonny on the way home. He was in Heaven all day as I think we all were !
-
Greg & I had the best time we've had in a very long time. Thanks to everyone. But most especially to Mom & Pop Leonard for their generosity in opening their home to us & to Shawn for all the behind the scenes leg work I know he had to put in to make this gathering a total success, & a joy to be at.
Nothing like this happens without one hell of a lot of effort.
Like I told Shawn, thanks doesn't seem enough for a weekend like we had. Meeting everyone was really special. As Curt said there wasn't enough time to spend just getting to know each other. There was too much huntin' & fun being had.
The money raised for St. Judes was a real special thing too. Those kids need every bit of help they can get. Just kind of shows where our hearts are.
I can't imagine a better time than we had, and no better people than were there. It's a pure pleasure to have met, & to know all of you!
Here's a couple of pics we took. Some just like the others, but then some are not! Click on a pic to enlarge.

larry, aw shucks! You're makin' me blush!
Meathook, I wouldn't call it snoring; it sounded more like a chainsaw... had me confused a few times when I woke up!
I had a great time meeting and shooting with all of you! I'll try to make it to some of the area shoots this year and will definitely be back in NY for spring turkey and deer season!
-
Jeremy that WAS a chainsaw and if you hadn't kept waking up I would have been able to complete my evil plan.
-
Thanks to David,Meathook and Larry&Greg for also posting pics for the guys that coud'nt make it this year
-
Did I really have that many people in the back of my truck? Maybe it's good I couldn't see it from that vantage point!

Starting to shoot Sunday morning, most of the Sat. guys moving alot slower than the "fresh meat" that came in for Sunday
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/curtsstuff079.jpg)
Rollin' out to start Sundays hunt, things heated up real fast in that spot!!
All my pics after this were way to blurry to put up.Had some good ones too :(
About the video.Got the tail end of Swampbuck sitting down to shoot the steel, and missing the bale and falling flat on his back :scared:
Got a lot of footage of the ballon shooting.
I must be camera shy, cause I couldn't break those balloons Sunday(while the camera was running) for the life of me :knothead: .
-
................TTT for Guru and his excellent footage.........
-
I gotta admit fallin off the back of that bail was darn funny :scared: stuck in his hide.I was so impressed with how well that borrowed collar worked when I turned it on( thats another story LOL) that I broke down and have one on the way.Sonny was very very quick to pick up on the warning tone I,d highly recommend this type of collar for working with hounds,I don,t know why I waited so long to get one.
Many thanks again to EVERYBODY for imprinting the lasting memories into my head they,ll last a lifetime!
-
Sonny did awesome Tom,You've got a real good dog there.Makes me want to get a beagle.Just too much going on for everyone to appreciate his work!!!
-
Sonny did wonderful and Tom makes pretty good dog too!!. That man is man after my own heart. I asked him a couple times on the last push " Where are ya Tom?" and he says "I am unwrapping this multi flora rose fom my haed and body!!" Thanks for the great pics. guys. Cindy had brought up my camera and a bunch of fresh batteries and I let it sit. I have never been one for picture taken, but I will try to make an effort now!! The weekend was great, I am glad everyone had a great time, I am already planning next year hunt!!! Shawn
-
I also want to say that my Shrew was as popular as the bunny hunt, I may save it until next years hunt and actually get to shoot it my self, I also may take bids on it!(LOL!!) Shawn
-
I think you should give it away at next years hunt. :bigsmyl:
-
I put it up on the bow classifieds, just to see what is out there in the way of recurves. Curt are ya huntin' Sunday? The bunnies are calling our names!! Shawn
-

-
That shrew hasn't even cooled off yet!!!
-
I think so bud, will know better tomorrow.Looking forward to it.
By the way,I forgot to talk about the bow that David(huntrdfk) made for Pop Leonard.David e mailed me at least a month before the hunt. With the idea that he wanted to make a selfbow for Shawns Dad.I was to be the spy and get all the info I could about him(he knew Shawn and I are close).I told him that he was left handed, that was the big thing to remember. Then I did the spy work and started to beat around the bush for the other important info.Comfortable draw wt. and length, his name, and anything else that might be important to know.
He started sending pics as the bow progressed over the next couple weeks.I asked David if it was alright if I made some arrows for the bow.Of course I waited till the last minute.Got a hold of Joe skipp and he had some pre finished shafts that were the right spine. So I put a simple crest on them,Wrote " For Jake By Curt C. and Joe S., Bunny hunt'05",put 2 more coats of sealer and fletched them up.
I was very excited about David giving him the bow.Which he did when everyone got together for lunch Saturday.Shawns Mom said to me "Curt, you know how Jake is,he will teasure that bow!" .
I'm sure he will!!
This was completely Davids idea.David, you are the man bro :notworthy: .I'm just glad I could be a small part of it.
-
Shawn,
Go back & check the listing. I'll take the Shrew!

To David and Curt, not only did it mean a lot to Dad. It meant a lot to me, I really appreciate the fact you guys thought of him, he is a tough old bird with a big heart. I went up yesterday and he was out shootin' the new bow and that is odd, as he very seldom shoots anymore. He may launch a few before hunting season starts and that it. Thanks Again!! Shawn

Shawn,I know how Dads can be LOL!!! We had a 3D shoot/Pig roast at our bow club and I invited my Dad. Last summer I had picked up a 35# Ben Pearson solid fiberglass longbow. When my Dad came down for the pig roast we went out in the backyard with that bow and some arrows,I told him to shoot 3under and kinda gunbarrel it. He did very well at about 10-15 yards and said he would like to try shooting the coarse.(I was hoping he would!!!) My Dad and I and my 2 boys went up to the club and the 4 of us had a great time. My Dad shot a 94 out of 300,not bad figuring he had NEVER shot a bow before!!!!! When we finished shooting my Dad opened his car trunk and carefully laid the bow, quiver of arrows, arm guard, and finger tab, inside and gentlely closed the trunk. I'll never forget the way Dad looked at me and said "That was fun!!! Let's Eat!!!
Dad has been shooting his bow and says that he is looking forward to more 3D shoots with me and his grandsons!!!!!!!
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck

OK, I sold the Shrew to Lars43 I think. If he gets back to me. I also am selling the Chek-Mate and i am ordering a Robertson and will be a two bow man!! Woodchuck isn't it great!! Shawn
-
Shawn,
I enjoyed making the bow for your dad, and am glad that he likes it. It is the least I could do for what you and your family did over the weekend, and still don't feel like I did enough. Curt was a bigger help in this than he is letting on, I was worried about arrows from the beginning, he jumped to the front immediately asking if he could make some arrows for the bow, which was great. Then he had to do all the behind the scenes work to get draw length, weight and such. It was really a pleasure to do this with Curt, knowing where the bow and arrows would end up, and thanks to Joe also. ( I truly enjoyed meeting and and speaking with you Joe).
I am reserving a spot for next years hunt here and now, so be forewarned!!
David

i am ordering a Robertson and will be a two bow man!!
