Title: Does anyone have any experience with Google Picasa Web Albums?
Post by: David Bartholomew on February 06, 2010, 09:50:00 PM
I just had a bad experience with Webshots and have no desire to head back there any time soon. Yup, a virus!  So, I'm wondering if the Google Picasa is any different.

In short, I'm a bit skiddish of posting any photos... any time soon.

Yes, I went into my Webshots account, uploaded a few winter scene photos and then took the modified URL (600 pixel) and posted them into a Tradgang thread, Virginia section.  About 20 minutes later an anti-virus pop-up was on the desktop warning me of a virus and to use the "demo" anti-virus now found in the right hand corner of my computer. And then it got worse... all kinds of things started happening with this and that "attacking" the puter.  In short, I just shut the computer down, and brought it into my local PC pro for a check up.  A little less than $100.00 later... my computer came back.

(And yes, I did delete all photos in my recent Tradgang... from my office computer.)  I was told by the PC wizard the Norton Anti-Virus didn't catch the problem because it was so new. (The "fix" for this problem was just brought out a day earlier... so I was told).

Dave, have you been banned from Photobucket?
There is another site that looks promising called Smug Mug. Eww. That just sounded like something else.

I've never been to Photobucket, so.... I think I can safely assume that I haven't been banned there; however, there are a few bars overseas where I'm not wanted... but that was in a different life, and it wasn't my fault (well, that's the way I remember it anywhoooo).

Getting back, the reason for the question about Googles photo place is that would match up with my g-mail account... and interface with my Motorola Droid cell phone.

I just had the very same virus and I was on Photo Bucket the same morning I had the virus attack ... not sure where it came from though. I too had to take my PC in to be cleaned and another spyware program added, we have Norton.
