I have a Panasonic Lumix TS-3. It is ruggedized so it is drop proof, freeze proof, waterproof. It as a GPS chip for keeping track of where you take your pictures (think taking pictures of trails, rubs, beds, etc.)  I have been very happy with it. $379.  Takes HD video to. It just larger than a pack of cigarettes. I am very happy it. There are other ruggedized camera out there. just search on ruggedized digital camera and you will get some great information.

Look for the Olympus stylus tough series, It shoots 720p video with sound, 14mp stills and is built to be shockproof, can withstand serious freezing temperatures and is good for underwater. I have used mine in the ocean, the hottub, and the swimming pool, I take is on canoe trips camping you name it.

Terry,

This may be to late, but I have a Pentax Optio w90.  It is a great waterproof camera.  I take it caving which is one of the most wet, dirty, muddy places a camera can be.  Mine has done me well on trips crawling through mud, climbing up waterfalls, rappelling, etc., etc..  It is also very compact.  It does not take SLR level pictures, but for what it is it is a great option.

im a huge fan of panasonics lumix series. i have an older lz-8 that has been dropped several times, the lens cover doesnt open on its own from oil , and rain and dents , the lcd is broken and i can only see the top left corner , but she still takes pictures clear as day.

ill be looking for the lumix mentioned above.i have seen "slr" that dont take clear shots like my beat up lumix does.

Second the Olympus Stylus.... took pictures of my little girls first ride without training wheels and left it on the truck bed over night. Storms and rain all night. Works like a charm. Very happy with mine.

VERY pleased with my Olympus Stylus Tough 8000.  In the pool, in the river, in the field, wherever, it's taken great stills and movies.

Just bought the Canon D10 about a month ago, after doing some research on waterproof point and shoots I settled on the Canon D10, good to 33' underwater and "shockproof" but most of all, the reviews I read all commented on how good the quality of the photos were compared to the others in the same class, It even has a "fireworks" mode.

Sorry if these aren't hunting pics, just thought I'd show the capabilities of the camera and quality of pics.....please delete after viewing

I just ordered the Olympus Tough TG-310 and will give a report after I've played with it a bit.  Looks like a pretty good camera and the price is very reasonable.

Terry,

I have been using an Olympus 790 since it first came out.  That is at least 4 years and two EXTREMELY wet hunts in Alaska (Brown bear out of Yakutat and black bear on POW) and it is still going strong.  Since I bought it they have upgraded to 6000 and 8000 series and I have to believe they are at least as good.  With that said, I am looking hard at going to the Panasonic TS3 with its Leica lens.

Very impressed with the Olympus I bought!  I have taken several pics in and around my apartment and took a bunch of underwater pics of my girls at the pool today and the photo quality is great!!!

Terry,

As you do your research you might also want to look at the temperature range. The zoom on my Canon SX20IS locks up sometimes when the temps get down to around freezing.

These cameras that take pix underwater are pretty cool. I never knew they existed.

Terry,
The most important requirement is lens.  What are you looking for?  Telephoto or wide angle?
Also, are you interested in stills or video or both?
I really really like my gopro, but the super wide angle lens might not meet your requirements.
Are you looking for weather proof or will the camera be submerged?
Dave

Terry, a low cost camera, even if you already have one. Check out a Tachyon XC Micro helmet cam. The paint ball guys use them. They are waterproof, bomb proof, one button control. When you want to drop everything and chase that hog, you can capture the hunt hands free. Not production quality, but good enough to enjoy reliving your hunt. I just picked one up on amazon new for $89. Take care, keep bringing us good hog hunting info, Scott

Also second the olympus... I accidentally sent mine through the washer AND dryer and it survived.  Amazing!  it looks pretty beat up but it works perfect.
