I had a mission a few weeks ago to come up with a bow for my new sheep hunting buddy Silas Ivory. Silas is your typical 18 year old kid that lives and breaths hunting, he came along to help glass with Leo Schmaus on my sheep hunt. Those young eyes really proved handy and we had a great time together. Silas hadn't been around bowhunting much and seemed to be fascinated with our longbows so naturally I had to do my best to propagate the infection ;)
Add in my good buddy Brent Rudolph from Black Mtn Bows and you've got a winner. Brent came up with a dandy longbow that fit perfectly. Leo and Silas were over this afternoon and I presented Silas with his new bow. That along with the arrows and ton of other gear Leo had put together outfitted the kid pretty durned well.
Your looking at one very happy kid here!

Thanks Doug and Karen for the awesome meal and the overflowing hospitality.
Silas was pretty shocked at Doug's gift, but he covered it pretty well (with a mild slack-jawed look) while we were there. Once in the car on the way home, it was pretty evident just how shocked and amazed he was. When we all think back to all the traditional bow crap we have learned over all years, its really quite a bit of information. Getting handed a new bow and having three guys with some experience and a target right there, and then trying to absorb the "wealth" of info being heaped on him proved to be plenty for him to handle. The trip home included lots of questions from Sy. They were really good questions because the previous couple hours of shooting was fresh in his mind. He really did very well for his first go and I am sure he will teach himself plenty, once at home and able to shoot some more. Lucky for him, living on a ranch provides plenty of hay stacks for targets and a wealth of small game to hunt. Sy had enrolled and started taking our bowhunter ed class last spring, however a major blizzard prevented him from getting to town and taking his test, so he raring to retake the class this spring. This fall was quite an experience for Silas and unfortuneately, now stricken by trad bow fever, but also sheep fever. I don't know which is worse, but together they are full bore disease.
Thanks Doug and Brent for this very special gift. (folks this is an absolutely awesome, beautiful little bow)Sy if you manage to get on here with your spotty internet service, don't be afraid to post. There's lots of folks here to answer any questions you have.
