Better put together a better team for 2006, cause this years team just couldn't cut it.  Gave out after the first little scramble.  We antagonized them endlessly, but they could never catch up.

See you losers next year.  Oh, and why don't you bring some of the big blowhards who stay at home and talk trash each year.  Put your money where your big mouth is fellows.

Still alive and kicking it up in AZ

I have got 111 Megabytes of 2 minutes of very close very high quality video of a pair of javies.  I will upload it to my web site soon if anyone has the thru put to down load it raw.  I will try to reformat it tonight to a less cumbersome (and less quality be far) tonight.

I got to clean my web site up tp get enough space.

I'm free! and home again.  Dang the desert if not HOT in the winter.  I thought Mickey and George/Mark would freeze to death.

We have tales to tell and lots of pics.  'cept mine are with Connie who decided to stay another week and play with her sister in the mountains.

I would like to thank so much the two hunters whp gave up shots so I could get this video.  It is a wonderous thing that most every bowhunter I know loves and respects the animals they hunt.  The hunters in our group wever as happy as I was for the great luck we had to take terrific video.

the best I could do was get it down to 28.3 meg in a .wmv file.

it took be 6 minutes to back load the video.

The video involved no special talent except being very lucky as to time and place, blessing Connie's heart for passing up a 10 yds shot, and thank ya Sony for making a video DVD camcorder that even I can use.  Nothing to it  :)

In the video you can see the scent gland that can flavor the meat uncomplimentary.  Ya can see the callor their name comes from. Some of the old javie hands say ya'd like to hit mid-chest on the callor line. Ya can see the rooter teeth on one of the javies.

I wish i could have uploaded the full version.  the detail is to much finer.

Rusty, looks like your right about the dialup, although mine is slower than most.  After 5 minutes 3% was loaded.  Guess I'll have to go to work early tomorrow to check out that video.

Good stuff Rusty. You guys have a great spot there even have hills for spot and stalk. Not flat like south TX brush county. Love to watch them critters mutter around, the way they stop like deer in mid stride to try to catch you moving. Could almost smell the stink glands from here. Can hardly wait the two weeks till I'll get to chase them about in Texas. Thanks for the video.

Wow!  That was neat!  I kept expecting to see an arrow zip through one of them...

Can't wait to try my luck at them in March.

Ahh a grand time indeed. Yea, Thanks to Terry for organizing the event. Some of my random observations from the hunt:

Arizona is a loooong way from Cinti, even by jumbo jet.

Airport security is wierd. They let all my electronics through without a hassle, but inspected my sleeping bag and a boot full of rocks, elk sinew and cow ribs twice.

The desert is a lot colder than I thought it would be and quite windy

Mike Westvang is a heck of a shot and a great camp cook but he packs way too much stuff  ha ha. Connie is a trooper and tells some funny camp fire stories. Besides she's easy on the eyes even when she takes her hat off. I can see why Mike has kept her around for so long. Glad to have had the chance to share a hunting camp with "Mama Connie".

Terry Petko has a stride longer than a T- Rex's and lures you into colliding with cactuses by stepping over patches that you can't. His main problem is he can't walk in a direct line back to a vehicle. He believes east/west washes will take you back to a truck that lies due north of you. Wish Terry would have punctured the hide on one of those stink pigs..he deserves to if anyone does

Rusty Craine is a lot of fun to talk to one on one late into the night, and it was worth missing a hot shower for that conversation alone. He also still hunts at a great pace. Got to see and shoot his glass backed wood bellied bendy handled bow and it's a dandy. Nice work Rusty.

Didn't get to talk to Bobby much but from what I did he's a heck of a nice guy and shoots a smoking hot bow. Dayem that bow is fast. Now that we taught him how to properly shoot his selfbow he's going to give those javies fits. 8~)

George is a great friend and just too easy going. Wish there were more people in the world like George, it would be a better place.

To Joe Javie..it's only a matter of time and you are so lucky the white haired one decided to take your pic rather than pierce your hide...  ;)

It was fun fellas, Thank for letting me share the campfire and the experience.

Hey Rusty,

That video was really great!  What kind of video camera records onto a DVD?  That sounds about as fool-proof as what I need.  Really cool video.

John - it is a Sony DCR-DVD201.  it records directly to the mini DVD-R and DVD-RW.  it is the Handycam series.  small but good optics and lots of features.  You can put the mini DVD right into your DVD player or you download the dvd into your PC program, edit the video, add sound, etc.  Preetty good edting software comes with the camera.  it has pickup for mic to hook up a radio transmitter, has a couple of video I/O's.  uses the Sony InfoLITHIUM M battiers.

Good video cam for a ameture like me  :)

rusty.

btw it has a night vision tyhpe thing "Night Shot Plus" prices is around $1K but worth it if ya really want the video under all conditions

Thanks Rusty,

I've always been reluctant to move away from my still digital cameras into the camcorders because of the limited storage capacity of the small solid memory sticks (along with their high cost).  I've looked up the camera you used and it looks like a good one.

Terry was knapping rocks while we were there.  he hit a real good spawl that he used to skin the javie with.  I got video of Terry skining the javie ABO style but I don't think I'll post it.   A bit "organic" I think.

Terry said the his baslat skinner was sharper than his steel knife....Ferret suggested that knapping was not the best way to sharpen a K-Bar

George and I took a short excursion to an old abandon rock house that was pretty neat.  George no longer thinks I am teasing when I talk about my ability to get lost or my inability to back a truck up.   :)

We went across a dam that was pretty high.  the end with the spill away had be washed out.....now we were 200 yds down a very norrow dam.  40 feet down one side to the wash, 20 feet down to real serious mud and water.   :)

Maybe George won't ride with me next time

A wonderful time was had by all. I would like to thank Terry and the others for including me on this years saga to thwart Joe and the evil Javi crew   :D  ...wern't a lot of blood shed (except from the cacti) and Mike's javi, but there were a lot of laughs and lies around the campfire to be sure. That Connie was a trooper to put up with the likes of us ('course, her puttin' up with Mike all these years ain't no picnic either). Bobbie and Gill, it was a pleasure to finally meet you two... About as laid back and nice a pair of folks as you'd ever met. Rusty and I had a great time bein' lost 3 or 4 times one afternoon, went on a slow hunt, almost backed his jeep off'n a dam (stopped by a tree) and I witnissed him hitting a cow turd at 150 paces with his bow. Thanks for the movies budd. Mike and Connie enlightened me as to the finer points of camp cooking...what an outfit they lugged out there to cook with. They take camp cooking to a whole new level, and nice folks....if Mike wern't a bowyer he'd make big bucks as a comedian, kept us laughing the whole time. Terry is someone I've corresponded with for a few years now, have a fine bow he made and it was a pleasure to finally meet him. He was the ultimate host and a real gentleman. "Thanks" Terry for putting on the trip...you are welcome at my fire anytime. Mickey of course, is a good, good friend, as fine a person as ever lived and a hunting partner of mine....but I sure wish he wouldn't insist on making his motel room bed in the mornin' tho....that maid was sure to figure we were a couple of pretty boys usin' only one bed  :scared:

It was a hunting trip to be remembered.
