Okay, here we go!!! I am gonna do two days(Feb. 19th. and the 20th.) this year if we get enough guys to stay for two days. We can stay right at Mom + Dads for the night. There are also several motels near by and I will post there names and ph.#s as this thread moves along. We will start it out like last year and people can start showing up by 7am. Sat. morning. I figured donuts and coffee and such and then some fun shooting. We will do the killer steel and some aeriels and such. We can have lunch and do an afternoon hunt from 1pm to dark. We can than have dinner and a fire and whoever wants to stay can, and we will get up and hunt all day Sunday. People can leave as they need too, due to time and travel. We are gonna have some awards for first bunny and most bunnies. I have a nice bow to give away and will have a few other items donated by some local archery shops. Joe Skipp is making up a special dozen arrows abnd my buddy will have some hickory staves there. I think Linc is making a bow to donate and like last year everyone can bring something for prizes. BHraek a baloon get a prize, hit an aeriel, get a prize, you guys that were there last year know the drill. Now all you guys have to do is decide if ya like the two day deal and we will work out the details of everything as we go along. I will say there are lots of bunnies this year! Dad and I went out on Monday and saw 22. I only shot 3, as I want to save some of them for our hunt. We went yesterday, me and 3 buds and in 1hr.,We got 8 and if I could shoot we would have had at least 13. We were carrying shotguns by the way. I was not gonna start this for another week or so, but since we want to try 2 days, I figured it would give guys time to plan. We can do a Bon-Fire on sat. night and then retire to our accomodations, if we get too many guys we can sleep in the garage as well. I have a Salomander and a couple space heaters. We will talk about food and who is bringing what as this thing goes along. I will also say thjat I have a special spot, that has not been hunted in a few years and is loaded with rabbits, just do no make fun of all the treestands ya see, I have 4 in one 80yd. patch. I am sorry to be longwinded but you know me and I think it is gonna be good, so chime in and let me know. I will check in little today, but me and the misses are alone for the day and night so, well you know!! I also wanted t say that my Mom and Dad are looking forward to this and Mom was the one who said,"If ya cannot get the house next door the guys can sleep here, we can move stuff around and we will have plenty of room, hell if we have too they can sleep in the kitchen!" I think it will be a blast!! I cannot wait!! P.S. I just read my post and girls are included!! Take Care!! Shawn

I should of put the address. This way you can type it in and get directions from Mapquest or one of them. 16 Old School Rd.
Selkirk NY 12158 Shawn
-
Shawn, Would really like to come this year!!! Talked to Joe Skipp about it last year and he said it was a really GREAT time!!!!! Hope to see you this year. Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Love ta have ya. I aso should of said bring a sleeeping bag and pillow if you are staying. Also I have a couplebag targets and a 3-D, but if guys could bring another 3-D it would be helpful. Most points are aloowed but no Broadheads. I am gonna run my beagle and my daughter has a pup that will be almost year and we will give him a shot on the second day. Shawn
-
Shawn, What dates are you thinking about? Fred
-
Man, I am a fool I will put them in my first post. The 19th. and the 20th. of Feb. Shawn
-
Shawn,
If it's ok, I sure would like to make the drive from eastern New Hampshire. 'Course, I'd bring a sleeping bag if ya have enough room for me. Let me know.
David
-
David, we have room. All are welcome. If we get a real lot I will just have to split the hunting party into groups. It is hard to put 40 guys thru a 3 acre piece. I also have spots that, that would not be enough guys!! Shawn
-
FINALLY ;)
Last year was AWESOME! Can't wait till feb...
Brian
-
Shawn, would love to come from Canada, any other Canucks make it over last year? Could hook up with Swampbuck if he is going. could bring some real Canadian brew........mmmmmmmm!!! got a real warm sleeping bag , and a 4 man 4 season tent. let me know. ASH>>>>---------------> ps. got a crazy beagle that needs to learn about bunnies.
-
Looking forward to it......Hopefully the wife is not working that weekend...
-
Gotta plan for it but I need Nanook to bring his wife to break trail for me if it snows again :D
Got a few nice bows for Curt to try out ;) and plenty of sleeping bags and heater. Wabbits Beware of all the other guys but me :( ..I am taking odds that there ain't no other wabbit that is going to implae himself on Bryan's arrow this year. :bigsmyl: ..the more I think of it that long volley of archers from the brush pile to him caused the wabbit to speed up and loose control. ...Mac~
-
Mac, that is true , but 4 times!! I am ready, I got a new pair of brush pants, Swampbuck better wrap his whole body this year, he looked loke a pin cushion!(LOL!!) Shawn
-
sounds like a great time. not sure if i can make both days but should be able to do a saterday. could bring some venison with me if needed.
-
Shawn, would like to make It up with mark,he said you guys had a blast last year.I'll make one of my broadhead knives for a prize.Looking foward to meeting the gang.ED
-
231 miles to your door, 3 hours and 52 minutes of driving. I'm in, see you in February!!!!
David
-
As it stands now myself and 3 hunting buddies are in..keep me posted on what you need us to bring.
-
Shawn..looks like I may make day 2...but I'm sending up the aerial disc, some old flu-flu's that I had in the shop, I think 4 or6 not sure. You can keep the disc and flu-flus for future use. I'm in the shop working on arrows today, then I'm hitting the woods for squirrels this afternoon. Be talking to you. Joe
-
Shawn : I would love to come , have to check the dates to see if I can make it ,will let you know. Thanks for the generous offer hope to seeya there. Thanks Drew
-
262 miles for me ....wabbits beware..Mac~
-
That is what I am talking about!! As we get closer to the date I will compile a list of what guys are bringing ad post it, that way we will not duplicate too many things. Joe that is awesome,I am glad ya can make day two. I thought I would have more hits than this. Swampbuck, Wapiti Chaser, Meathook, Curt(Guru) Sleepyhollow where are ya, I hope ya did not party too hard last night. Some of the thing we will need are: Plstic cups, sturdy paper or plastic plates. I will have everyone throw in $5-$10 and I will get lunch meat and Dads Chili, someone can make a venison stew or I will do it, can soda, or plastic small bottles, chips, dips(Lee that is a hint!) he works for frito lay. If ya want beer, let me know if we have enough interest for saturday night I can get a 1/4 keg. Donuts and pastries. I will have condiments and such. I am gonna take the day off before the hunt and get everything ready. I will set up some 3-D targets and a gazebo and tables for the give-a-ways. I have nice Bear Super Grizz, it is scuffed up a little but a nice shooter that I am gonna donate. make sure you guys bring your extra bows so we can all shoot them. If some one has a light Lefty, around 40#s, please bring it,Dad can carry a bow that way. I know he would love that. Nanook are ya out there? I have a self bow that was donated last year and Nanook gave it back to my Dad, it is too heavy for him. I thought we could all sign it and then donate it to the St. Jude auction or Thunder. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and hope I make it enjoyable for all. I was worried last year and it turned out awesome, with 2 days I am twice as worried, but with people like you guys and girls I know I shouldn't. I am trying to get one more spot to hunt, it is a large piece and it would give us room for all of us, I will keep everyone posted. By the way, I got a new bunny and squirrel bow. It is a Chek-Mate Firbird 56"s and 62#s at 28"s, I am shooting aluminum out of it(Never shot them before)and they ae flying nice, so Bunnies Beware!! >>>>---------> Shawn
-
Shawn,
I missed last year, & Sat. is my wife's birthday I don't know if gettin' away that weekend will be a tough sell, but I'd love to be there. I'll keep you posted.
Larry
-
Shawn,
I can bring venison, condiments or whatever it is you need me to bring. Just let me know.
David
-
David, bring a venison dish. main meals are always good. Everyone will eat good. Larry, I hope ya can make it. You can bring the misses and get a hotel room near by and send her shopping!(LOL!) I shot some tonight, my arm is healing. I tore a tendon in my elbow and have to be good. I just shoot until it starts to hurt and quit. This is gonna be good, I hope we have snow, if not it will be tough. If ya got a beagle ya want to run and he is good with other dogs, they are welcome. I will be running Ben and Elma Fudd(female)!! Shawn
-
don't think I'll make both days, but pretty sure about Saterday, I can bring some kind of food, just let me know what, and probably make up some kinda prize........
larry
-
Count me in for at least one day.
-
7-1/2 hour drive for me, but I'd surely like to try and make it over for it...we'll have to see.
God Bless !
-
Shawn, Yesterday Swampbuck, Meathook and my self went bunny hunntin. On the way home Tom and I were talking about your hunt and bam here it is. So I run over to the calendar and see I will be in Wisconsin from Monday to Friday of the week before for work !! That sucks. I get in late Friday night. Saturday will be out but I should be on for Sunday if you save a few bunnies. Gotta talk to Swamp and Meat.
-
Bill,It would be great if you could make it.It'd be great to see you again.
-
Shawn.. I would love to make it. At least one day, if not both. Once a list is together on the donations and what have you, I will be open to sugestion on what to bring for donation or otherwise.
-
Melinda and I will be there. Got a new set of chaps for X-Mass so I should be all set. Most likely make it for the weekend. Thought that bow might be a little heavy for your Pa but it was worth a try. Looking for a light lefty for my niece so if I find one I'll bring it along.
-
Well I am glad Mr and Mrs Nanook of the North of me are going to be there. :) That answers my trail breaking problem. :D New Chaps means you go into the thick, thorny stuff with Shawn and the dogs. Oh where is recurver...I figured Bryan would be in here disputing the impaled rabbit theory but I believe that's how we saw it. ..Mac~
-
19-20 Feb?
Count me in provisionally. I've got something else waiting to be scheduled for around that weekend and so I'm not 100% sure whether I'm free.
I sure HOPE to be though. I'll watch the thread and try to confirm as soon as I can.
For those of us without NY licences, what would be the earliest/nearest place to get one? If I can get my act together I might just nip over for a day trip and get one once I know what's what.
Jake
(who is keen)
-
Nanook, Melinda and Tom I am looking fowrd to seeing you guys. Mac, they all do not come with a a feeder attached!(LOL!)I would say for now jut make a dish and bring it along, it is early to know what food we will need. Post what you are bringing and I will start keeping track. Shawn
-
Shawn,
I'm not sure if I can make it this year, but I'll get the chips to you. some how. ;)
-
Shawn, I'm adding 1/2 dozen youth/women arrows, spined 30-35. I'm cutting them 28" BOP, 100 gr field pts installed. I'm leaning towards a blaze orange or bright red dip for visibility. Final count on the flu-flu's is 6. I also found 8 Cedar shafts spine 40-45#. Time permitting, I may make these up for you also. No sense having 8 shafts laying around the shop...
-
Shawn,Joe, If I'm able to make it I'll BEG Lisa to let me bring up her Ed Mikuta longbow 36# @ 28" so that folks can shoot it. I had it out one day shooting it and when I came back inside I got "the look" and she said "Don't you have your own bow???" It's a real sweet shooter, and super fast to boot!!! Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Shawn~
Count me in with at least one Bud...
-
:bigsmyl: Mornin gents and gals to if your out there.Thiis is the first I,ve seen this since my home puter is
.I,ll put it on the calander I was hoping this was gonna come up soon actually I was gonna PM ya Shawn so I could make plans.Sounds like a good time for sure and ofcourse I,ll bring Sonny
my wife would shoot me if I left him home.
AS,your about the same distance as I at least I think so.It took wapiti chaser and I a fairly long time to get there last yr around 5 hrs if I remeber correctly. If I can do both days which Im hopeing to I can sleep in a tent or my van.Where ever is fine but I will have a 4 legged critter close by.
I,ll check back later I,m a bit busy here today.
-
Does NY have a non-resident short term license??
-
For out of staters...
Overall hunting regs (http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/license/lichunt.html)
Small game regs (http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/license/lichuntnon.html)
I'll let Shawn confirm with specifics, but the local Walmart should be able to handle licenses.
This hunt is a GOOD time and you will be hard pressed to find a better family to host it and a better group of people who attend...last year was just awesome.
Brian
-
Count me in for at least Saturday! If there's space to throw a sleeping bag or room for a tent somewhere I'd like to stay for both days. I can bring the cups, plates, napkins and what-not if no one has claimed them as well as what ever else you need me to bring.
Looking forward to putting some faces with the names I've been seeing for the last 5 months!
-
Tom, you can sleep in the housewith the dog, or the garage or the basement. I am gonna use folding tables so we can get them off the back porch(enclosed)and sleep at least ten in there. Jeremy that sounds good too me. I will mark ya down for those. BJK is correct, you can go on-line and buy licenses or Wal-Mart which if ya take the Thru-way or I-90 and get off at exit 23 you will go right by it. I have a budd y that works the sporting goods dept, and I will let him know he may have a rush Sat. morning. It is only 6-7 minutes from Mom and Dads. I am still working on some more areas, but I have enough to keep us into bunnies for 1-1/2 days, as I think Saturday we will do some warm-up and fun shooting until 12 or so and have lunch and then hunt the rest of the day. I really want to thank Joe for his generous contributions, he is a real good guy and I am hoping (you) he makes it. I do not know where Curt is, but I am sure he will chime in. Everyone who is coming, please start your snow dances, as it will make for a much better hunt with the white stuff. I do not think any tents will be neccesary as Mom and Dad have a big house and Mom said as long as ya take your boots of we can sleep anywhere. I am gonna stay and I only live 10 minutes away. I will put signs with a few balloons to help catch your eyes as you are getting close to the hunt site. It should be a good time, actually a great time, just seeing people from last year and meeting new ones!! I am trying to keep my buds from shooting too many before the hunt and no snow now is a good thing for that. I will check in a gain befor I go to bed!! Shawn
-
I do not think any tents will be neccesary as Mom and Dad have a big house and Mom said as long as ya take your boots of we can sleep anywhere.
Shawn, I will take your bed.. :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: LOL
And for you newbees....Shawn's mom and dad are two of the finest, down to earth, giving and caring folks you will ever meet..Ask the veterans... Mac
-
"And for you newbees....Shawn's mom and dad are two of the finest, down to earth, giving and caring folks you will ever meet..Ask the veterans... Mac"
I,ll 2nd that !!!!
-
3rd...
-
4th..... :)
-
Shawn.... I will plan on donating a new bow sock for a prize. I also have a six pack of Wenzel Woodsman's that I opened and sharpened a few, but never used (new this year), so I will donate them as well. And I will bring a Cheesecake, too.
-
I should have a quiver or two (side and hip) for the pot. They'll be plain, but functional and durable.
I'll commit to bagels, but won't know till mid feb if I will definately make it...with that work thing and all.
Mark are you gonna make it? Hope so...we should try to get together for some squirrels or yotes or sumothin'
Talk later,
Brian
-
Brian , ya know I think you already sound ill and by the 19th. I think you just may have to call in sick. Mac, Thanks, I think?(LOL!) Steve, the prizes are just for fun and actually youcould put a donut on the table and someone would take. We had river cane last year and I may put on the gloves an go out and harvest some Multi-flora rose shoots and bundle them up, I am sure some self-bow guys would love tem. Joe Skipp has outdone himself, but I will keep it a surprise. I am making up some flu-flus as I type. The aerial shots are always good and ya never know there is usually a squirrel to be shot at during the hunt as well. Later!! Shawn
-
Hi, Shawn... I understand about the prizes. The Wenzel Woodsmans... I bought them last year and tried a couple of them on the broadhead target, in comparison to the my trusty Magnus II's... the WW's didn't fly as good as the Magnus blades for me. So I rather give them to someone in Tradgang that can use them.
-
Well I guess it's time for me to chime in,after all you guys let this slip to the second page :knothead:
I'll be there, but i'm trying to figure out something to add to the donation table  .
Shawn, when are we going to do a "test run" on the huntin spots ;) ,ya know, just to make sure there's some bunnys around when everyone shows up :bigsmyl: ????
-
Guru, the donation thing is no big deal!! You and I know that this thing about getting together and meeting old friends and new ones and hopefully killing a bunny or three. I have hammered a few, but there are a lot out there. I have killed 15 so far, only one with the bow. The last valley where we jumped all the turkeys on last years hunt is loaded. We put out 15 rabbits last week and only did half of it as it was getting dark and we had to quit. We are about to get hit with some snow soon and I am praying we have some for the hunt. The way the winter is so far, you never know. I will check in again later, am doing up some bunny hunt arrows. Electric purple reflective wrap and 3 chartreuse nanners, one with a blue stripe. They should show up real good in the snow!! Shawn
-
I guess that means no
-
The next 5 weeks are going to drag here. I am sooo looking forward to this.
David (Packed and ready to go)
-
Second page again!!!!
-
What means no? We can try them out the next good snow. This weekend I am real busy or else I would be out there. I may go after work tomorrow for an hour or two. I am gonna bring the new Chek-Mate. It is early to get this thread going so it will be tough to keep it up, but as it gets nearer I think it will be right up there. It is still a month and a half away and it isshaping up real good. Shawn
-
That's it, I can't take seeing this thread everyday. Sounds like waaaay too much fun to miss!!! :bigsmyl: Barring unforeseen circumstances, count me in.
What can I bring?? What do you need??
-
Scott as we get closer, like the first week in February I will post of list of what people are bringing as far as food and paper products and such. Basically anything you want, I just do not want to get buried with too much of one thing. Last year we had enough donuts and patries too feed 50 people for 2 days, but it is always better too have to much than too little. I have made up 1/2 dozen flu flus and Joe Skipp is sending a half dozen for the air targets. I also want to say, no rubber blunts at the ballon shot, no prize if ya use one. My buddy last year shot the same arrow 4-5 times even though he only broke two ballons. I am still finding dead arrows in dads yard from that!! Looking forward to meeting everyone!! Shawn
-
Giving Curt a break...keeping it on p.1 ;)
-
O.K. I was not sure if I was going to be able to make it this year. But the time is slated from work and I am ready to have another rabbit run onto my arrow. Just to get away from you numerous arrow flingers, and you know who you are. Shawn I will wait until you type the list of what is being brought and then I will bring what may be needed. Bunnies beware, because I am bringing 40 inch arrows. LOL.
Bryan
-
Bryan, I am glad ya can make it!! I just took a walk and saw 7 bunnies, only one running shot. It is tough to be the dog and be in that thick stuff and try and get a bow up and let one fly. I am going tomorrow at 2pm, as I kinda got out of some things I had to do. I will have my daughters boyfriend and his son with me and Ben the beagle and Dad of course, so maybe I will get a few more shots as I told them they can all be dogs for the day. There is snow duehere tomorrow, but it could hit 60 by the end of next week(Bummer!!)
Have Fun!!
Shawn
-
"but it could hit 60 by the end of next week(Bummer!!)"
You got that right next Thur and Fri is our anual ski trip for the faimly oh well we,ll have a blast.
Good luck this weekend I hope to get Sonny out down the street for at least a little while after finishing up on my daughters car.I,ll be bringin the LB to that same spot.
-
Tom, have fun!! My daughter has new beagle Elma Fudd is her name and huntin' bunnies is her game. We ran her once and she did good. I also wanted to say I have a couple of brand new packs of 135 grain screw-in Zwickeys for the prize table. I just came in from shooting the new Firebird, it is nice and quick, but I cannot shoot more than a few arrows due to my bad arm, I hope I am all healed by the hunt. Have Fun!! Shawn
-
I am on my way too see if I can reduce the bunny pop. I am leaving in about an hour. I will let everyone know how we do! Shawn
-
Shawn, Please don't reduce them to much!!! I don't shoot that good and I need as many shot opportunities as I can get LOL!!!!!!!
Good Luck!!! Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
I smell hassenphieffer!!!!!!!!!
-
Ha, Ha, Hasa, Hassenwaaa???
Is that like woast wabbit?????
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Well, we hunted for 2 hrs. I made the best shot of my life on a running bunny. I jumped a pile along the airport and out he comes, swings between my legs and than dead away down the old road. I swing and let one fly, whack right behind the head, it did not even kick. We got 4, I missed two more and damon got 3 with the double. We had a blast. We could of shot and killed at least ten, but I am saving some for the rest of you rabbit slayers!! Shawn
-
Good shootin Bud!!!!!!!!
-
ttt for Kenn
-
I am happy to see theat Bryan came clean and confessed to the demise of that poor rabbit last year....Nice shooting Shawn...I suprise myself sometimes but not often enough....Mac~
-
Mac, I would rather be lucky thanb good everytime. Lots of bunnies out today. I did not hunt, but took a ride and saw them sitting out sunning themselves. I like it cloudy out as I think they stray farther from their holes, on sunny days they seem to sit right on the edge. A little over a month to go, I cannot wait!! Shawn
-
Woodchucker, I just got out my Mennonite cookbook (Food That Really Schmecks) and found a recipe for Hasenpfeffer. I will post it in the Recipe Forum.
-
I should of mentioned that I will have a rabbit dish for the hunt, not Hasenpfeffer though!! Shawn
-
Im still new here but this sounds great!! I am going to try to make it up there and have a blast! What type of arras and points should I bring wit me?? Still new at this. What type of food or drink should I bring?
-
Congrads Shawn!! I missed 1 yesterday and Sonny ran it by 5 times....thats right I said 5 times twice I was spotted by the rabbit twice it was to far in the thick stuff for an arrow to get thru and well ........I,m pretty good at scarein the crap outta them LOL
-
Shawn,I gotta get ahold of Bob(wapiti chaser)and see whats up.He said somethin about only being able to make Sun.If thats the case it,s a long drive and we drove together last yr so I,ll probably wait if he,s gonna for sure make it on Sun. 5 hr,s one way it,s nice to have somebody along.
-
Tom, Tell him Shawn said to Drive down Saturday even if ya do not get there until dark. There will be a few of us staying overnight. I would say about ten right now, but could be more!! JC, the basic rule is no broadheads. Bring whatever you would like. Chips, dip whatever just let me know by the first week in Feb, so I can add it too the list. I will post a list of what is being brought around the middle of first week.
-
Shawn:
Any Idea how many dogs? And if we stay where are we going to be able to keep them. I would like to bring mine but if you feel there are going to be too many, I won't. The reason I ask is because he is an inside dweller when not after those nasty smelling rabbits?
Bryan
-
I think just 3, but if Elma is coming 4. We can keep them in the house with us a s long as they are trained. I know Ben and Sonny are good together, as long as she isn't in heat they all will get along with Elma. Shawn
-
I am not worried about them getting along. Snoopy does not have a mean bone in his body, unless it is a bunny(HeeHee). But he is only a year and has alot of pup in him. So he will want to play alot, with the other dogs, that is about the only thing I need to work on him with, but I am sure he will eventually grow out of it. Oh and he is house broke as for me I am not sure. LOL
Bryan
-
My beagle doesn,t care bout what other dogs around him are doing much,he just does his thing. He got to sing with meathooks beagle a couple weeks ago.
Shawn I was thinkin that but have not called yet.
-
Elma is just gonna be a year in late January. We are getting snow tonight and it is supposed to turn real cold, I am hoping it stays around a long while. Curt, I e-mailed ya, if we have snow we can hunt next weekend. Shawn
-
I just come in from letting the dogs out and what did I see but a cottontail looking back at me, I went and grabbed the bow, but I had a couple of drinks and my wife says no! What do I do, but head out anyway, but my weapon now was a snowball. I cocked it back, bad arm and all and let it fly. Hit the beagle right in the back of the head(LOL!)He was already at the end of his rope, now he just kinda sits and wonders what might have been. We got to get him out there flinging arrows and him a chasin' those elusive beasts!! Shawn
-
Good thing ya changed weapons LOL I,m thinkin the dog didn,t want an arrow in the back of the head.
-
Pardon me while I lapse into Yosemite Sam for a moment...
rassin' frassin' kalarblassin' scheduling confilicts!!!
*pant pant pant*
ok.
I just found out I have a conflict and won't be able to make the trip. I was so looking forward to meeting you all. Enough so that I WOULD blow off the other committment, but I promised my daughter a year ago that we'd do this and I can't go back on THAT.
Maybe next year.
I'm still plotting for ETAR too so maybe I'll find some of you there.
Jake
(who's gotta do what he's gotta do)
-
You guys are slippin'. I am done beat with all this slushy snow. I had to check in though. Shawn
-
I am going to try it in the morning. Rain and all, but stll snow on the ground. Won't be good sent conditions but if I waited for perfect conditions this year I wouldn't be going. Wish me luck.
Bryan
-
Hey Shawn...on a sad note...I was just thinking today, remember Barb Dumas wanted to attend this years shoot. All of us were offering warm clothes for her and I believe she was excited about coming here and really looking forward to the hunt. Darn...a year goes by so quickly and now Barb will be up with the Good Lord watching this years hunt from above.
-
Joe, it is strange you said that. I was thinking that at some point during the hunt we could all line up and launch an arrow in her memory.(Some on here did that when she passed) I talked with her quite a bit and I think she may have came this year. A great lady and someone I considered a friend. We will do something for sure!! Shwn
-
Bryan who cares about conditions, as long as you are hunting. dad and I went one day this year and it was -17 wind chill. If our hands weren't so cold we would have gotten our limit, tough to shoot with a thick glove on, we got 5 though. I hope ya did good!! Shawn
-
I'm thinking that Barbs gonna have the best seat in the house, watching us busting through brush and flinging arrows at bouncing bunnys!!! I think she better be careful she doesn't fall off her cloud LOL!!!!!
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Shawn:
I went out today and man what a day. I was not in search of cotton tail. I found this spot while I was still hunting deer on a piece of state land. It just reiked in snow shoe cover. So me and snoopy finally got time to check it out. It is loaded with the white hare. I would like to say I connected, but I missed three times. But what a great time. Alot of hares spotted and chased.
Bryan
-
Good for you Bryan, sounds like a good time!!
-
Tom, The Saturday night thing just may work. Sure will make for a shorter day Sunday. Jake hope you make the ETAR it's a good time.
Bob
-
Curt:
Shawn and you will have to make a trip down, and run them with me sometime.
Bryan
-
Bob, the Sat. thing is the way to go!! I really want you two guys there. I wish you could make Saturday as well. Bryan, that would be cool, nver shot a hare. I made some butters, nutters for bunnies. I am gonna give them away at the hunt. I put 2005 Southern NY Bunny Hunt on them, I though they would be a nice tradition to start. I will make up a 1/2 dozen each year!! Shawn
-
Bryan, I wondered where there was any varrying hares left. We had them in PA but they have about disappeared. Went the way of the buffalo I guess...Mac~
-
Mac,
We have a pretty good population of snowshoe hares in northern New Hampshire, course that's about an eleven-twelve hour ride for you. Heck, it's about three hours for me to get there, almost quicker to get to the bunny hunt.
David
-
Shawn, They are here, but They do make my pup crazy. They take such long jumps, and go so far, but do circle back. This is a southern side hill, with real thick low ground cedar and pines, below it is thick bramble swamp and buck brush. They are feeding at night in the swamp and going back to the cedar and pines during daylight hours. When they jump they run up the mountain to the big timber, hardwood and large white pines, and make a long circle back to the thick cover. My pup trys his best but, they seem to dump him easy because they are so fast. The three I shot at were bumpers. Two large males and a smaller one. 10 to 15 yards running, but going fast. No excuse I know. Now they do have runs like deer from the cedar and pines to the swamp. So an older esperienced dog would make it easier for one hunter, but I feel with few more hunters there would be more shots, because more ground covered.
Mac, I have only seen this kind of hare activity in two places my whole life and that is up in the adirondacks around Speculator, this was years ago. The second was in Maine, when i lived in Wells. They would feed on my lawn and have runs like that in the snow. Around they are also rare, but since not many hunt them anymore I have seen some spotty groves with them in it. Another reason they are rare is because of the timber is such full growth anymore, not low line growth for them to hide from preditors. As you probably know they do not hole up like cotton tails they out run thier chaser. And man can they run long and hard. Also Mac at the rabbit hunt at Shawns, remind me to talk to you about some property in Chanango county. I believe you could hunt when you are at your daughters.
Bryan
-
Bryan, remember to put the arrows in the snow and chase the rabbits towards them. :D I will remember to ask you for that place. Mac~
-
Mac, Sent you a email but it got blocked
Bob
-
I will let you in..Mac~
-
I would take the shotgun next time, just to get one or two for the pup. It is not a bad thing to have a dog who gets behind, when my Ben was young he was always right on the bunnies tail and you could not shoot, he has gotten too old now, but still loves to go. He did ok last year and will do ok this year but not like when he was 5-9 years old. I am gonna take a walk in the morning to see if we have any snow left in the woods and valleys, maybe get a shot or two!! Shawn
-
Shawn:
Snoopy is fast enough on cottontail, just snowshoe leap so far between tracks that the scent is so spread out, so it is tuff for him on checks, but he did fine for his first time with the white hare. Anyways, you didn't get snow this morning? We got about six inches this morning, instead of the rain they were calling for. Good Luck.
Bryan
-
We got rain, I took a walk this morning and there is no snow left, well maybe some in the thick stuff and in the woods but not much. I did jump one bunny and missed a long running shot. It was cold 14 degrees but a beautiful morning, sunny and crisp. I must of shot 100 arrows in the hour and a half I walked around. Everything here is flooded and starting to freeze over. We need an inch or two of snow now and it will be great hunting, the rabbits have no place go because all there holes are filled with freezing water. We ar due some snow Sunday night and I have Monday off so we will see how it goes. Have Fun!!! Shawn
-
I have not heard from many of you!! Do you go out bunny hunting or what? I thought we could here from some of you how the rabbit pop. is in your area. I e-mailed Guru about a little pre-bunny hunt scouting for next weekend. We will give a report on what we see. Have Fun!! Shawn
-
Work weekends, but will be out on Wed. Hopefully on fresh snow for cottontails and then thurs. for snow shoe and then friday for not sure which one maybe both...
Bryan
-
Bryan sound good. What time you gong out weds. I get out of work by 2:30 and could be out your way by a little after 3. It would give us two hours!! Shawn
-
Sounds good. I can wait until 3pm. I can meet you at one of the exits in Colbeskill, or do you know how to get to Jefferson? I can meet you there and go to the snow shoe spot for a couple hours.
If you came all the way to Stamford, we would just back track and waist daylight. Up to you.
Bryan
-
I would do one of the Cobleskill exits, whichever you think is best. Let me know and I am there!! Shawn
-
Shawn: Give me a little, i'm trying to find out the exit number.
Bryan
-
Shawn...I would like to drive up my donations on my days off. I need to get away from work....What days would be convient for you. Joe
-
Shawn: Come Down The I, and get off of exit 20. Follow off ramp up and around until you get to the stop sign at the bottom of Richmonville Hill, It is a 4 way stop. I will meet you at the stop sign at 3 or a little after. We can confirm more on Tuesday night. Try to be there as soon as possible, because we have to go back toward Jefferson. And time is going to be close.
Bryan
-
If this is not good for you we can, make a morning hunt on a sat. or during the week when you have off.
-
Bryan sounds good. I will e-mail my phone # to ya!! Joe any time after 3pm during the week and any sat. or Sunday is fine. Curt should be comng up next weekend to scout and stump some, if ya can make it with him that would be awesome!! Shawn
-
Shawn I will call you on tuesday evening. Sometime between 5 and 8pm. And i have your number if it is still the same from last year.
Bryan
-
That would be cool. I am going out hunting in about an hour. Shawn
-
"100 shots".....Wow I bet I havn't taken 100 shots in the last 2 months.Needless to say I need to start shooting more.Did take about 10 shots today in the basement.Lookin forward to next weekend Shawn. I could use a little woods time.I'll bring that chrono so we can test some bows.
-
Curt sounds good. I can finally shoot and not hurt to bad. The arm is healing. Next weekend will be good, we may even get to shootat a bunny or two!! OOOHHH YEAHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
I took Sonny out Sat morning after or ski trip Thur/Fri and he found a couple prizes at the end of his loops. They got fried up in olive oil last night mmmmmmmmmmm good!! I,ll try to get a few more to make some bunny jerky again but no promises since I tend to take the bow more than the cannon.Sat I used the cannon so next time it,ll be my LB
Bob, sounds good maybe we can hook up this weekend for a little hound music. Both the bunnies I got Sat were because Sonny brought them around it was very cool waiting for the dog to find his prize at the end of the trail
-
Tom, that is sweet. We got some snow and I am about to takea little walk and see if I can't kick out a bunny or two. I will have the curve. It is getting late so it will be a quick walk!! Curt, I am ready for the weekend and we have snow and it will be staying around, as it is gonna get real cold. 20 below wind chills tonight. Shawn
-
Why does it seem like it gets cold when I come up?? Should be fun. There's a 3D in Saugerties sunday that some Tger's are going to.I'll e mail ya bud.
-
I could do that if ya want. I am fixin to start getting a list together of who is bring what. Not getting many hits here lately. Are you guys huntin' or what. I have been at least 10 times, but will admit only 3 times with the bow. we have killed 40 or so, give or take a few. I have not even hunted some of the best spots, saving them for the hunt. I have a multi flora rose patch waiting for Swampbuck and me to go in and tear up and vice-versa!(LOL!!) Shawn
-
Shawn,I will be up on sat, working on a broadhead knive for the table..let me know what you need.If you can make it come down sunday a few of us are going to a 3d shoot.WE can brake some arrows together...ED
-
Hey Shawn, i may be back up again this year, will be coming with a friend of mine that works for the town, depends on if we get snow down here or not that weekend will be the deciding factor if he can make it as he would probably have to plow.
Have an item or two for the prize table as well, save us some bunnies
-
You gonna save us any Shawn? :smileystooges:
-
Prize table is looking good, but I was talking food. Start letting me know by this weekend, so I can post a list so we do not have too much of one thing. Jeremy, I am trying to get my brothers and dad to save us some, we are hunting different spots so we have some for the hunt. Ed, I am waiting to hear from Curt too see about the shoot. I have a new bow coming and it should be here Sat., if it is I will probably be breaking a bunch of arrows on Sunday. Sleepy looking forward to having ya!! Shawn
-
Another "new bow" :scared:
Dang Shawn how many is that now?? I,ll do up a crock of sausage with peppers and onions like last yr.Actually my wife will do that I,ll just be a transport LOL
-
Also remember that won,t help for Sat since at this point I won,t be there for Sat,s action
-
Tom, I only have 6 bows. I was doing alot of trading and stuff, but I have setted in a bit. My Blacktail is unbelievable. Tha is Ok about foo. I will be just as hungry on Sunday. It is a month away and I cannot wait. I new I started this thread too early, it is going slow!!! Shawn
-
Ed, I want to know where the shoot is?? Shawn
-
Shawn never too early to be thinkin bout a good time. Some of us just been lurken. Will bring something to eat not on the list and a case of soft drinks.
-
Shawn...how about this Saturday afternoon I make the drive up to deliver the goods. I have to be in Saugerties picking up shafts and was going to head up to your area. After Exit 23...how far down and what road do I make the right turn on? I got a short term memory.
-
Joe, I might be seeing Shawn this weekend.Either at his house or at the shoot at highwoods. But it all depends on the weather and work,I'll let ya know if I'm going.Maybe I could save ya some driving.
Shawn, The shoot is in Saugerties.Highwoods sportsman club.
-
Curt, Ed, Shawn... depending on whether we get this snowstorm Sunday or not. I plan to be at Highwoods Sunday, as well. Hope it doesn't snow.... been looking forward to it.
-
I've been looking forward to shooting Sunday too. Every radio station has a different forecast - any where from a dusting to feet of snow.
-
Joe, Call me Friday night. I will e-mail ya my #. The same as Curt said. If we get the snow Sat. night I will be working Sunday, but Saturday afternoon would be good, if you are coming this way, I could meet ya at my Dads. Curt, do the same, Call me Friday night. I took a walk this afternoon and saw a few bnnies sunning themselves. It was 13 degrees and windchill was 5 below, you gotta Love It!! Shawn
-
Fran, ya staying the night or ya getting a room with the lady. Mel is coming right?? Cool Beans!! Shawn
-
Shawn we'll be getting a room. Stayed not too far from you last time, someplace near the exit.
-
Shawn--I will be up for the Saturday hunt--I will keep my eye out for some type of food/supply
list....thanx and looking forward to it ..
Mark
-
Thanks Curt..now I hear the weather may be real nasty on Sat and if its true, I'm hanging close to home and work on arrows. Email me cause when I get home after working 6pm to 6am I sleep all day.
-
Mark, good deal. Fran, thats right I think the Quality Inn. Joe call me!! Shawn
-
Shawn...looks like a bad storm coming. I'm off Monday, Tuesday. I don't have your number, give me a call Sat evening 845-691-5533 and we can make plans. I'll even just drop off the stuff at your dad's home. When I get off Exit 23, turn right, what was the road I make the next right off of? I remember the large house on the left. Be talking to ya killer....Joe
-
Are we there yet!! :) Hate waitin'
Hey Mark,
What does next weekend look like for you...I'll get in touch mid week.
Talk later,
Brian
-
Well,so much for this weekend 8^(
So what's going on next weekend??
-
Shawn or Curt
What are you guys getting for snow out there this weekend?
David
-
Dave, I drove home 1 hr into the storm and it was a whiteout. Barely could see vehicles 60 yds in front of me. We're expecting up to 15" with high drifts, 30 mph winds.
-
David,We're supposed to get 15-25" down by me :scared: :help: .
Hopefully we won't get that much
-
Joe, I e-mailed ya my #, I will do it again. The snow is bad 2"s and hour. We have 6"s now and it hasd only been snowing about 3 hrs. We are supposed to get at least 20"s, like Joe said white conditions, wind chills 25 below zero. Curt next weekend is open as well, we have to scout and shoot some for sure. Brian I hate waiting too, but I have been huntin quite a bit as usual. I got a new LB today, Widow PLX, it is a sweet shooter, I have to find the right arrow. 2117s bare-shaft real nice but fletched seam a tad stiff. I am shooting away in the house when I let the dogs out! Shawn
-
Great, You guys be safe, I just looked at our local forecast and they are saying 20" to two plus feet, plus the high winds. I'm expecting the phone to ring tonight to help out at work, we'll see.
David
-
Yeah David, I work for a large school district and will have to go in and have my building ready for Monday. I like the snow though, I just do not like the below zero temps, 15-20 is OK. Shawn
-
Shawn, whats the spec's on the widow ihear good things about there new long bow.Maybe when i come up for the rabbit hunt a can take a few shots. No 3d shoot its a blizzard down here.
-
It is actually the very first Proto-Type of the PLX, it is marked Proto# 1. It is the same bow though except the grip may be a tad different. It is 62"s and marked 50#s at 28"s, but it scales 52#s on a couple different scales. It is sweet, no handshock and fairly quick. I hate the Widow strings though. I am gonna order a 10 strand D-97 for it. I am liking it, but have only shot it about 100 times. I got to find the right arrow yet!! I cannot wait to see all you guys at the hunt. OOHHHH YEAHHH!!!! Shawn
-
I know what you mean Shawn, thing with us is we're out there 24/7, and I think we only have two newer guys on the street for midnights tonight. Those Ford Crown Vics aren't all that good in feet of snow.
Looks like I should start looking for the snowshoes for next month. As a new guy I expect to be breaking trail, so I'll be gettin on the treadmill too. Less than a month to go!!!
David
-
Brian, ED and ????, maybe we should try and get a "mini" bunny hunt in before Shawn's???
-
David, the way we hunt, everyone breaks trail. We usually surround a piece and my Dad places some of the watchers and we just send the dogs and pushers through. It was perfect last year, overcast and about 5"s of snow and temps right around 30 degrees. The only thing I pray for is snow(amount does not matter, unless over two feet) and overcast skies. The bunnies do not like bright sunshine with them big eyes and on sunny days hang close to their holes. Shawn
-
Up before bed!! Shawn
-
I'll get in touch with you mid week, Mark. A hunt or some shootin would be great. I'll know mid week how my weekend is going to be.
Talk later,
Brian
-
No bunny huntin this weekend :( Oh well they,ll be out later on when all this snow settles down a bit
-
We only got 11"s at my Dads, I had no one to go with me today. The dog wiped Dad out last Weds, and he tore the muscles in his groin, but he was up and feedin' the chickens nd peacocks by he weekend. He says he is going to guide for the bunny hunt no matter what. I didn't bother huntin', I just took a walk. There is one bunny right by the house, that should provide some shootin, if someone does not kill'em before the hunt. OOOOHHHH YEAHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
Only 11"!!! We are about 20" and drifting during the storm. Tuff for bunnies right now, but I have a large grove of white pine on some state land that the red squirrels are so thick, feeding on the cones. You can sit pretty much in one place and they will run buy on a stone wall they use for a highway. Great fun, have to use rubber blunts or the stone wall is heck on arrows.
Bryan
-
We are gonna get 4-7 more inches overnight. I am gonna hunt for a little while after work tomorrow. I am gonna bring the new PLX and some woodies, they are not spined perfect but I do not want to lose to many of my Axis shafts!(LOL!)We are getting closer. I am gonna post a little list this weekend of food items and drink. Good Night!! Shawn
-
Just tosee if anybody is still reading my gruel!! Shawn
-
hey shawn how far are you from cooperstown?
-
You can make it in about 1.5 hours. Down I-88 to the Thru-way and then head east to exit 23. My daughter went to Oneonta State and we could make it in an hour-twenty. You should come, it is a blast and you will get to meet some graet people!! Shawn
-
the problem is i am in boston now but i have a 3day weekend that weekend, so i might eb able to make it for a day when i go home to visit.......not only that you might not want me there, it would be my first archery rabbit hunt with traditional:(
-
Jacob, Last year was my first......you will be missing a great time.........Mark F.
-
well there has to be someone there to laugh at i guess right?
-
You can laugh at Shawn and I if ya want LOL
Still haven,t talked to Bob yet I,ve been a bit busy.Good luck this weekend to anybody headin out
-
Tom, I don't think anybody will be laughing at us because we will be putting out all of the bunnies. I hope the snow ain't too deep for Sonny and Ben. Take care. Shawn
-
I don,t know watchin you draw an arrowless bow on that last bunny last yr was pretty darn funny LOL
-
This year I will keep the bow loaded at all times!! Shawn
-
I'm still picking thorns out of my face and hands from driving...I can laugh now but it sure smarted that day
-
Joe, e-mail me, so I can talk to ya. I will send ya my ph. # again. My 'puter is acting funny, so send me an e-mail an maybe I can respond. I hunt hard all year, everything I do I do
hard, when I am done bunny huntin' for the day my wife usually spends a half hour picking stuff out of my head, ears and face. I still have a thorn from from a thorn apple tree above my right knee that has been there 2 years. My Dad is working on a new spot that could hold forty of us easy, it is about ten minutes from the house. We never hunte it but it looks real good. If hegets it, I will try to get in there to check it out before the hunt. I am getting antsy, it is not too long now!! OOOOHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
Hi, Shawn.. yeah. still keeping up with the thread. And good stories....
-
I am gonna post some of the food people are bringing this weekend. I am sicker than a dog, I am gonna stay in the house for the next day or two to see if I get better. I can still shoot in the living room though. Shawn
-
Shawn, hope you heal up quick
-
Thanks man!! I just got a bug. I am coughing so much I cannot sleep. I took a little walk to get some fresh air but man it is so cold it hurt my lungs to breath. I am having some beverages to help put me to sleep, if ya get my drift. Shawn
-
Shawn..I know what you mean feel the same this weather doesn't help, taking shots of ni-quil helps.Still shooting in the basement, not the same as chasing bunnies >>>---> ED
-
Ed, I am doing shots of Southern Comfort, I hope it has the same effect as Ni-quil. I know it taste better!! Shawn
-
Hey shawn when i come down your dad can use my 45 lb blackforest if he likes. How is the snow think we will need snowshoes? Art
-
Shawn,I guess that means no shootin tomorrow??????
-
Shawn,
I prefer healthy doses of Jameson's for that condition. Ny-quil just doesn't ease the pain the same. :D
-
...........JWB......Johny Walker Black....Get better..........Mark
-
Shawn's got it right with the SoCo... works great and goes down a whole lot smoother! Get better.
I'm really looking forward to this! :)
-
Guys, I just got up. I was feeling real bad. Curt, I thought you would call? No man, no shooting outside anyway. I am feeling a bit better today. I may go for a walk tomorrow. The snow is not too bad, we have about 15"s on the ground, but it is light and fluffy. I just got a call from my daughters fiance'(Damen), him and a bud hunted my Dads today. They went out around 11 and hunted until 2pm. They saw 23 bunnies and got 7, they said it was tough hitting them as if they let them get out to far they dissapeared in the snow, once they started shooting quick they were OK. I am gonna try and walk thru the first piece we did last year, more of a scouting trip, but if I can launch an arrow or two I will. I hope I feel good enough to do that, this cold is knocking the hell out of me. I have started the list and will post it tomorrow. Curt if ya read this call me around 8 tonight. I hope to still be awake. Shawn
-
Joe Skipp if ya read this I sent my # 3 times. I just got another e-mail and responded. Let me know if ya got it!! Shawn
-
Hey Shawn,
What about licenses? Is there a spot close by that is convenient to get a non resident small game license at when I get there? It's getting closer and closer.
David
-
David, you get on to RTE. 9W south, there is a Wal-Mart in Glenmont that will have Nnon-resident licenses. I am staring to go thru te list and checking it twice. I am feeling a bit better and I am gonna take Ben the beagle out about 3 this afternoon. I will let ya all know how I do. I am bringing the beagle we will see. Shawn
-
Great, thanks Shawn. I'm about to go out and shoot a little, trying to decide which bow to bring. Probably end up bringing all three!!
David
-
I would bring a beater if ya got one. Some of the stuff we go through is tough on a bow. I went out for an hour and a half this afternoon. I saw 7 and got two shots. Ben ran 3 of them. One right by me at 10yds, in an open field but I missed. I shot about 5ft. behind it. I also got a sitting shot at one, but it was like 30yds and he was in a little thicket. I hit something on the way to him. After today I decided I hate aluminum arrows. I had two woodies and two aluminum. I stump shot some on my walk. I never shot at any stumps but some clumps of grass and sticks, after a couple shots thru some brush both aluminum arrows were bent, the woodies held up much better. It was a nice day and there was a ton of sign. We shold do good as long as someone can hit them. Shawn
-
I went out too,saw nothing.I went to a spot I've hunted all my life for rabbits.Used to be loaded, now hardly a track!!! Seems to be a lot less every year.Small game is in decline around here BIG TIME!!!! But had a great time shootin stumps.Took a bunch of pics..Check out the thread..."Since November"
-
Curt--same here, Hunted yesterday with BJK at the bashakill, saw some old squirrel tracks..nothing fresh (besides coyote tracks)....also noticed
a large decline in my old hunting areas----???
-
I had to work Sat and Sun.Was gonna hook up with Bob(wapitichaser) but he had plans Sun afternoon so I went solo down the road.Saw 3 got off one shot no bunnies in the pot oh well next time LOL
-
I took a very nice ride with Joe Skipp today. We rode up to Shawn's Dad's place to deliver some items for the Bunny Hunt. While we were up there Joe drove around showed me some of the territory they hunted last year. Well I gotta tell you,it sure looks like some pretty thick $hi+ LOL!!! Joe commented that he probly was going to use his bowquiver during the hunt. Now folks I think EVERYONE knows I'm a DieHard BACKQUIVER man, BUT... After seeing some of the tangles we're gonna be huntin', I'm thinking of dusting off my old Selway StickQuiver!!! Anyone have any thoughts or opinions???
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
We have bunnies andlots of them. I would go woth a bow quiver. Youare likely to lose arrows with a backquiver.I am working on a list as I type this. I want to Thank Joe and Chuck, Joe donated some real fine arrows, I mean real fine, the type that you would pay a lot for, not just one but 2 dozen in 3 different spines, plus 1/2dz. flu-flus for the aerial shoot, in case some do not hae any with them. I am thinking of having a prize table and put some of the real nice stuff out for a raffle, like at the muzzy shoot. we can donate the raffle money to Thunder or St. Judes. Joe also thru- in a bowhunters hat and a pair of gloves. Chuck bought a bunch of blunts, nocks, and nuts for nutters, and a few bags of rest material. Absolutely awesome. Thanks Guys!!! I gotta go or my daughter and will never get this list done. OOOOOOHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
OK here is what we got
Shawn-- Soda-chile-6ft. sub
Huntrdfk-- Venison Dish
ADKmountainman-Venison dish
Larry-- Donuts
Tom Lagatol--Bear Dish(?)
Jeremy--Plastic cups and Plastic Plates
SteveMD---Cheesecake
BJK---Bagels and cream cheese
Guru---Have Mom make a dinner dish
Southpaw Shooter---Something not listed
Nanook & Mel-- Case of soda + Chips
That is what I have so far. I would say we could use some more breakfast stuff like bagels or a couple boxes of cereal. I will grab a couple gallons of milk and more canned soda and juice. We are not gonna be eating the whole time, we are gonna be killin' bunnies(I hope!)(LOL!!) From here on out I say bring whatever ya feel like. I have a lot of plastic silverware and I will get the condiments, someone could even bring some hot dogs and rolls, and maybe a few more bags of chips. We will be in good shape. I am starting to get the yard cleaned up and a spot for us to shoot. I am gonna set-up a gazebo like last year and several tables and such. I have 2 bag targets,an aireal target, the balloon shot target(if ya can call it that)and a 3-D deer target. If anyone has another aerial target and another 3-D or bag that would be great, maybe a couple. If we get 30+ guys it will be nice to have enough to shoot at. I will get some hay bales and set up like last year. I am gonna bring us down into another hollow that we did not get to last year, it has lots of bunnies and it is about the thickest nastiest spot we hunt, I went thru it once this year and only did part of it and me and my bud saw 10 bunnies and got 4, and missed 5 more. Curt has been in there, he shot a couple bunnies in there last year. I think we may go thru it one way and than turn around and post watchers and push it back again. If ya are worried about getting bloody, ya better walk the creek. It is getting closer and I hope you guys are excited as I am. I hope to pull it off, we will just wing it like last year!! OOOHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!!!! Shawn
-
Shawn,
I'll throw a U-Stuff-It bag target in the truck to shoot. I see light at the end of the tunnel.
David
-
Shawn...got the hotdogs and rolls covered, starting to get ready should be a blast...ED
-
Shawn, if we make it up i will bring three or four 20# burlap bags that basmati rice comes in, they have zippered tops and are easy to stuff with plastic grocery bags if anyone can bring some, i'll see what i can round up, i would say that i could also pick up some of the other items such as bagels, chips or whatever except my coming still revolves around the weather forecast for that weekend down this way :wavey:
-
Shawn--Pm coming your way...Mark
-
Shawn: I will get milk, cereal, and bring a large macaroni salad for lunches and dinners. Also I am bringing a felt fedora type hat that I have never worn, for a prize.
Bryan
-
Sounds good guys. I also have seen the light, all you good people have made me aware of it. It is funny, I used tograb the bow and the beagle wouldn't even pick his head up, now that I have had him out several times carrying the bow he starts to whine evrytime he sees it. It is shaping up real nice, lets just hope we have temps in the high 20s an some cloud cover, the bunnies will be out and about then!! OOOOHHH YEAHHHH!!! Shawn
-
Shawn, Well I put my StickQuiver on my Mikuta longbow this afternoon. I'm gonna have to get out and practice with it on now,I haven't shot with a bowquiver on in over a year!!! I gotta say, I'M PUMPED!!!!! Just PRAYING that my wife is not on call that weekend!!!!!
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Shawn,
Put me down for kielbasa and 'kraut. This is gonna be some shindig!!!!
-
Chuck and Scott it sounds good. I am getting everything ready!! Shawn
-
Shawn----how about a case of the amber fizzy stuff??
-
Shawn,
I'm not going to be able to make it to the hunt. I'm still going to send something for the table with Ed. Maybe next year.
-
Mark you must be talking bout that French stuff!
Might be a tad fancy for this crew, then again I'm sure a toast or two will be in order, after our sure to be sucessful hunt.
As most of you know this hunt just happens to be the same weekend as GORH, as a veteren of both I feel it's my duty to be extra sharp to help insure the bragging rights as Best Bunny Busters is bestowed to its rightful owners.
I believe the GORH record is three or four over three days, really two because I don't think anyone went out sunday in the blizzard. I know I took one look and beatfeet for home last time.
-
Swamp, Lets hook up this weekend. I have a rifle shoot Sunday 9-11 but should be free otherwise. Looks like some bunny weather this weekend.
-
Bill sorry to hear that. I will see ya sunday morning at the indoor range though. Mark sounds good, I am having a hard time responding to PMs. I did get it though. Nanook that sounds like some fighting words, but I know that we have lots of bunnies, whether we can hit them or not is another thing. I am really working on a great spot, I hope we can hunt it. I drive by and see rabbits just sitting out and wanting to be shot. I am talking to the landowner this weekend. I did not realize it was the same weekend, does that mean we lose Linc? I am really looking forward to this, I cannot wait to see everyone and hope we can at least get a few bunnies for the pot! Shawn
-
I know ot is early, but I am bringing this up. I want to get a count, so please chime in if ya are a comin'!!! Shawn
-
I'm a DEFINATE MAYBE!!!!! Sorry Shawn,Won't really know untill a few days before. If my wife gets put on-call that weekend I can't come. I'm planning on Sunday for the hunt.
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Shawn,
I'm in.
David
-
I'm definitely in!
-
Wapiti, sounds good I wanna hit where we went that first time down the road my LB is itchin to strike fur.
Shawn,I,m planning on going but like I said before I,d like to wait for Bob so we can make the trip together and work obligations make Sat out.We may however get there Sat night.
I was planning on makin up a doz arrows and putting half on the table and giving the other half to a friend but time hasn,t been workin with me so I,ll throw a doz shafts on the table(remember not Sat am)there cedar full length spined 60-65
-
I'm In.
Bryan
-
You could put somethin on the table to represent the shafts if ya want till I get there
-
Tom, since I am getting some awful nice stuff for the prize table. i think i am gonna separate some for fun prizes, like hitting the aeriel and breaking a balloon and not your arrow and than have a raffle for the nice stuff and donate the money to Thunder or St. judes!! Shawn
-
Hi, Shawn... my plan is to come up on Sunday. Since Joe Skipp and Woodchucker work nights... I've offered to be the designated driver!
-
count me in as a definite----Mark
-
dont think i can make it shawn, was hoping to make my first appearance but it turns out i'm on call! :(
-
Count me in looking foward to it.
-
Thats great guys, keep them comimg, just so I have a clue!! Shawn
-
Me :wavey:
-
Moe'y and I are still in. Haven't gotten a rise out of those Gorh gruop yet but it's early. Hope Linc can make it. If he wants a ride we could pick him up at a Thruway exit on the way.
-
Thanks Nanook,I may take you up on that. Are you planning on both days or just one?Saturday or Sunday? Sorry,I haven't been keeping up with the thread. :o Hi MO!!!
I haven't even gotten started on the bow yet.Just haven't had time.May have to be an I.O.U. I have a cedar bow that Barb gave me that needs a little work.Might just work on that and get it to shooting and donate that.Maybe that will give a little of Barb's spirit to the hunt.
-
Count on me as well. Been looking forward to this for awhile.
-
Sounds good guys, Linc, do not worry about the bow, just bring your big old self!! Nanook and Mo, I am looking forward to seeing you guys, more so Mo though!! Shawn
-
Up and Away!! Shawn
-
Nanook, GORH is great, but we live in NY!! Shawn
-
Just brnging this up. I only count about 20 people, so far as positives. We had 23 last year, I am hoping to get somemore responses!! Shawn
-
Shawn thats why I'm heading east not west, besides our rabbits are bigger, faster, and more rascally.
Linc looks like were heading up Sat. am. back Sun. pm.
-
Shawn, my intentions were to be there but very uncertain. My wife has been ill for some time requiring my care so my only hope is that she gets better real fast. I was also supposed to leave for Bear Bay that Monday but nothing is looking good right now. Priorities first. I would cetaiy miss this one..enjoyed the other so much and it also gives me an excuse to visit my daughter. If things look positive you will know immediately...Mac~
-
Nanook,Not sure as to my work sched. It may be a one dayer for me.
-
Shawn, do you have a list ready of who's bringin what and what is still needed?
-
Jeremy, I posted a list a few pages back, whatever you bring is fine. I cannot wait. Mac, it will not be the same without you, but I know what you are saying!! Family is always first! I wish the missus a speedy recovery and hope ya can make it!! Linc, whatever ya do, ya gtta mke a day!! Shawn
-
Top of the morning to ya! Shawn
-
Morning Shawn!!!!!
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
I don,t know what happened to all the rabbits around here but they sure were,nt around basking in the sun.Took my LB out Sat afternoon and Sun morn...nothin....Sun afternoon I hooked up with Bob(wapitichaser)and we went to one of his spots and that too was very dead.Alot of old sign not much fresh.Sonny was on a search mission most of the time and did finally bump one that circled back to Bob and was anchored right there with a canon.Allful lot of work into 1 rabbit.
-
The bunnies do not like the sun, unless it is below zero. I rarely even hunt on sunny days, it hurts those big eyes with the big pupils. I like right around 25-30 degrees and cloudy and even a bit of snow in the air, that is ideal. I hope we get such a day or two for the hunt. I also hope we get ome more snow. It was 50 today, but they are saying snow for Thursday, we shall see. Shawn
-
12 days and counting, it's coming!!!
David
-
Hey Shawn,
I'll be there with my son if'n it doesn't snow. I do the airplane deicing thing so snow means I'm S.O.L. :(
I built a neat little foldin' knife for the table. If I can't make it up, I'll mail it to you so you can put it out in time.
You're right near Albany, where's a motel to stay that's fairly close. We might be gettin' in late & may have to leave early dependin' on the weather.
Larry
-
Come on, come on, come on ! ! ! Just can't wait !!
-
Took a walk behind my house today scrounging the orchard brush piles for bunnies. Managed to kick out 2 but they offered no shot. When the brown little hares did stop they were in the thickest briars out there. Spent the last hour stumpin and checking for squirrels. Getting geared up for the Sunday hunt in Ravena!
-
Larry, when ya get off at exit 23 there is a couple right there. I will get there exact names and phone #s and post tomorrow. Shawn
-
Shawn:
You going to throw the directions up again just before the hunt? Just the ones from the exit to your parents. Short term memory I guess?
Bryan
-
Yeah, I will put them up early next week. I am gonna hunt Weds. My Dad has got a new spot to deer hunt and I am gonna see what the bunny pop. is like. I am gonna bring the scattergun, as I would like a few more bunnies for the pot!! Shawn
-
Just keepin' it at the top. We are getting some rain today, but we are supposed to get several inches of snow on Weds. night. It is than gonna get cold, so it is lookin good for the hunt. Shawn
-
How late is to late for arrival Sat night??
-
No time is too late. Tom, anytime is fine, we will keep a spot on the floor for you two and the dog. I am sure we will be up until 11pm. at least., like they say "We'll leave the light on for ya"!! Shawn
-
We are gonna get it!! Snow that is!! It looks like at least 6"s and as much as a foot. I would be happy with a foot, as a little melt off nd we will be good to go!! I am getting pumped now!! Shawn
-
10 days and counting, it is time to pack and gas up!!! You can never be ready too early.
David
-
This overcast day provided a bunch of bunnies. I kicked out 8, missed three. Again they stopped in the middle of the dense briars and getting an arrow in there is impossible. I played tag with one "hare" for about 5 minutes before he streaked off causing me to miss and lose my arrow. If the day is cloudy when we hit Shawns, it could get real interesting!
-
Shawn,
If my daughters condition improves and the traveling isn't to bad. I'm going to try to be there Saturday. (got to work Sunday)
What kind of chips do you want?
-
Lee, hope she is well!! Bring whatever you want, the crew we hav will eat anything!! Joe, that is what I am hoping for. I have been bunny-hunting for 35 years and I just turned 40, a long time and days like today are awesome, I am getting out tomorrow before the snow hits. I started with a single-shot 4-10, if I cocked it, I could not uncock it without the gun going off, so one of my bros. or Dad had to come and uncock it.That lasted all of a couple times and than they would say, "Just shoot it up into the trees", at $1.50 a box you didn't mind, now $8 a box you gotta be good!! When I was 7 we had 6 guys go and we got 36 and we only hunted 3 hrs. My best day ever was 11 in an hour with my dad. My best recently is 6 in 20 minutes in the first spot we hunted last year. I am hoping for good weather this weekend as I am gonna prepare our shooting area and get some hay bales and such. I will post directions from exit 23 of the NYS thru-way early next week. For you guys using Mapquest the address is: 16 Old School Rd. Selkirk NY 12158 OOOHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!!!! Shawn
-
Top!! Shawn
-
Some memories from last year: Gathering up at the house. This is where we all got together to shoot, targets, arial targets, and the dreaded STEEL TARGET !!!!

Goin' huntin'

The results!!! Nanook and Recurver(w/suicide bunny).SWEET !!!!!

-
Thanks Curt thats a nice memeory jog :bigsmyl:
-
Tom I agree.
Thanks Curt, nice memories.
-
Its Ben the beagle by the way. Nice pics. Great time with a great group of people. OOOHHHH YEAHHHHH!!!! The snow is coming, the Dad and bros. are out reducing are intended quarry as I type this. I hope they shoot lousy. I had to work late and missed going with them, I had the bow and bunch of arrows and ready to go and got stuck at work. I will let everyone know how they did later!! Shawn
-
Great memories Curt, thanks. Getting close for sure.
Bryan
-
OK, got the call. They only got one, they saw some but they said it was real wet, hardly any snow left. I take that as a good thing, as if there was snow and cold the may of killed a bunch and that would be bad for us. A ta more than a week away!! Shawn
-
Well, the weatherman is gonna get shot, the snow they promised is just starting and now they say only 3-5"s. It was supposed to be at least a foot or more. Now lets all hope it gets cold, real cold too keep the snow around. It is coming down good right now, maybe they are wrong again, we will see. OOOOHHH YEAHHHHH !!!!! Shawn
-
Great you got snow! hopefully it gets cold. We got that whole storm in hard rain, no snow at all?
Bryan
-
So what time are things getting kicked off Saturday morning? Mapquest says I've got a 2.5 hr drive to get there...
-
I,ve got around a 5 hr drive and it sounds like I might have Hook in tow along with Bob
-
Meathooks coming? Cool. Can't wait, it is getting close.
-
Also glad to hear Hook is coming.Shaping up nice!!
-
Hook, Bob and Tom, that will be a ride. You can arrive anytime from 7am. on. We will probably shoot quite a bit to warm up and then do some fun shooting, the steel, aeriels, and such. I would guess we will grab a quick bite and then hunt. one if not two spots until dark and than back to the house for dinner and refreshments and some BS'ing. It is really lookin' up, but we only got about two inches of snow, so keep prayin' for more!! I am gonna try and get some things ready this weekend, but I gota new Super Shrew that will be here tomorrow and you know I am gonna have to shot it right away on saurday morning!! Life is Good!! Shawn
-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/pic002.jpg)
OH YEAH !!!!!
-
I don't see that many rabbits in a year!
-
I said maybe for hook,he has to answer to his "boss" same as Bob and I LOL
-
We all know Hook is whipped!(LOL!!) We have lots of rabbits, but we work for them. I think a lot of guys just do not get into the cover and pound every pile. We may get 10 we may get none, but we will have fun tryin!!! So, Tom when do you figure you will be there? Shawn
-
Shawn, aren't we all?? I feel like a kid waiting for my birthday to come. Seven days and counting.....
David

You better believe I am. I have a good one. Anyone that would put up with me is worth hanging on to. When you consider I have hunted in 10 States (many multiple times) and 3 Canadian Provinces (two multiple times). She let you tradgang ruffians invade the house without complaint. She's not hard on the eyes at least from where I am standing. She makes beautiful babies and did I mention she shoots a bow.
-
Me too!!! I got a good one, and she is better to me than I to her. I like it that she keeps me in check every once in a while!! Shawn
-
Looks like several of us have a good one LOL and as it should be it,s faimly first.
Shawn,it depends on when Bob get,s in from his work trip.We certainly won,t be able to make Sat,s events but driving it in 2 days will be better than doing it all in 1 as you well know since you came here before.
-
Yep Hook, I always knew she was quite a gal after we invaded your home and I saw everyone walking over your new hardwood floors. I even thanked her for that if you remember.
Guru.....were those rabbits killed with a bow in one day? You guys must have seen a ton of them. Now I know why when the gang shows up we only move 20 or 30...LOL Dang I am going to miss this event. More especially those secret tree stands. A miracle, maybe a miralcle will happen. I will be keeping tags on you all. Will miss seeing everyone....Mac~
-
SHHHHHHHHH........Be vewy, vewy qwiet(whispering)Don't let the other moderators find out. No,mac that is just a pic to show the potential of the areas Shawn has to hunt.We killed those the weekend after the bunny hunt last year.I think there was 5 of us hunting.A lot of bunnies got away too! We will be into a bunch of bunnies. Lets just hope for a little snow before then, and good weather next weekend!!!!!
I hope I don't get in twouble :bigsmyl:
-
WE NEED SNOW!!! PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE!!! Mac, we saw 40 that day or more and plenty were missed!! We will miss you!! Shawn
-
Maybe it's time to start setting a few ground rules for the hunt. Two from last years hunt.
1. No broadheads allowed during the hunt. There's a lot of guys and it's a lot safer this way.Blunts, judos, nuts, homemade bunny busters,etc...
2.It would be nice if everyone wore something that has some bright color. At least a hat.Blaze, red, yellow, orange, whatever as long as we can see ya.Hat,vest,jacket,etc...lets be safe.
Those are 2 I can think of right now.Shawn, can ya think of anything else.Anyone have any suggestions???
-
Orange is good!!! I like Orange!!!
-
QUESTION: How Many Arrows Are You Folks Bringing With You????? I'm coming up Sunday for the hunt,My bowquiver holds 5 arrows. Realisticly, Should I bring more??? Are we gonna have a Lunch/Reload time???
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Swamp, Good news, Bad news. We got in a bad car wreck thursday night.Everones ok just bumps and bruises. I won't be going on the work trip as a result. However I will have to work Saturday until one in place of the person going on the trip in my place. So we can leave after I get home. Let me know if Meats going. I may not be able to shoot my bow much as my shoulder took a good hit but still want to go.
-
Bob, Sorry to hear about the accident and glad you are OK.
Curt...sssshhhhhhhhhhh! ;) OK Man that's still aload of stew...I would still have beagles if we had rabbits liket that around here. I hope Iwas vewy quiet. :D ....Mac~
-
No more safety tips, but arrows, you better bring all ya got. I wasted 5 arrows on the steel alone last year. Bob, hope ya are OK!! I am setting some things up tomorrow. It is lookin' good, we may get a bit of snow Thursday. That would really help!! Shawn
-
Now when you say "the steel" are you talking about a chunk of plate steel with a circle cut out of it, or a steel target like on a rifle range? If it's the latter, no prob, I won't come close to hitting it, but if it's the former, I better make another dozen arrows!
-
Bob, glad you all are OK. I should be good to go. Just let me know how you guys want to work it. I can meet you guys somewhere or you guys can come here either way is good.
-
Bob, Glad you're OK bud.Scary stuff!!
So,I was just thinkin about what kind of bow you all are bringing. That's half the fun, tryin' out a bunch of bows :bigsmyl: .
So,what are you guys bringing????
Any lefties for me to try??? :wavey:
Looks like I'll just have my Kwyk Styk(Ol'Reliable).I suppose i could bring my old original Schafer Silvertip(Ol' Painless) that Paul made for me in '86 if any lefties are interested in shooting it.It's an awesome bow!
-
Now That you mention it, Curt. I did not want to brag, but my new Checkmate Falcon arrived friday. I know it is a little light for you 50@28, but man is it sweet and fast.
Bryan
-
Now he offers to bring all them bows to shoot...I ain't coming. Curt, next time (I know there will be a next time) I would love to shoot one of Paul's Silvertips. I had planned on bringing my treestick from acadian, a Dakota and both my Pronhorns, the recurve and the longbow. There will be a next time. PS Curt, did you send that email? was I right?? Bryan, I would have loved to try that one too. I have a hunter but always interested in trying different ones. I am glad Shawn isn't left handed because from one week to the next I would have no idea what I was going to be shooting...He gets this disease like bow disorder every winter and I have no cure for that other than another bow. Shawn will have owned them all before I ever get to trying them all in my lifetime....Just pickin Shawn..kinda like the treestands....Mac~
-
I'll be there for the Sunday hunt...I'll be shooting my Bow River Summit T/D, maybe bring the GN Bushbow and my Stealth T/D for backup. Leaving the Groves and Massie Longbow home....
-
I'll be up sat, will bring my widow sa and my massie longhorn, and plenty of arrows.Getting close boys.
-
Ed,tryin to talk Birdman into breakin out the recurve for the weekend. We talked at work today, said "I just might" we'll see.Good luck today!!
-
I think it would be cool to get a little trading blanket going for the weekend.Maybe have a table just trade some goodies.Hmmmm...one table probably won't be big enough....any thoughts???
If it's a bad idea, then I'll be quiet :knothead:
-
I think that would be a great idea Curt, I'm sure I've got something laying around to trade. I'm going to have to stay away from that steel plate shoot, there is no way I have enough arrows for that. :scared:
David
-
David,Ya gotta try it at least once :scared:
-
Bob--Glad to hear everyone is OK..
I will be bringing My Selway LB, dreamcatcher and older kodiak Mag..
As far as arras'--whatever I can fit into 2 back quivers-------That steel plate is brutal--but lots of fun----I would like to see how ash or purpleheart would hold up to it, alum and carbon go to the recycle bin!!!! :scared: :(
Hard to believe we are less than a week away..
Curt---a trading blanket sounds good--I have a couple of things too bring..
BJK, ED (3d Muzzy) Scott (southpawshooter)--what are your plans--if it is the 4 of us we can meet and take my truck---
Mark
-
OK Guy, I just got home. I as up to Dads getting ready.I cleaned up the yard and got the shooting area ready. I have some things to run by you all. First, I know there is some nice stuff being donatd, a self-bow(Me), arrows(Joe Skipp) some nice hunting pants(Mom+Dad)a Broadhead knife and a bunch of smaller items. The smaller stuff ie. hunting gloves(6-8 pairs)knocks, blunts, field tips, we will use as prizes for breaking a balloon, or hitting the flying target, but the bows, pants, arrows we will have a raffle $5 an arm length or $10 a wing span and take the proceeds and give them to Thunder, as he does a lot for the kids!!! We should be able to get him a couple hundred I figure. I also have a bow for whoever kills the first bunny and 4 nutters to go with it!! Does this sound OK to everyone?? For the guys staying we will be in good shape, plenty of room, we could sleep up to 30 so we are good. My Dad is making a venison stew and a big pot of venison chili. I am getting a 6ft. sub and some wings. We may hav aguy coming who just found our site and lives in my home town, he owns a bar, so he may bring some cold ones!! The steel is a piece of plate steel with a 3.5" hole in it, we put a balloon behind the hole on a hay bale, break it, you pick something from the prize table. I shot some aerials today with some Flu-Flus Joe Skipp made, oops they did not slow real quick, I put a couple out over the runway!! For you guys new to the hunt, we hunt a small airport with about 60-70 planes and a big run-way. My Dad said "Just shoot this way, they won't go too far" next line"Oh sh$t, you better only half draw!!" I got a new bow for the hunt I figured Mac(Walkingsick)would be disappointed if I didn't. It is a Super Shrew Deluxe and it shoots nice, Frank and I made a trade(Sticshooter) nice bow!! I set up some bales and a deer target and the arrow eating steel. I have also two bags to bring up as well!! I am gonna post some mileage from the Thru-Way and such tomorrow. Wal-marts is open 24 hrs. and I am gonna stop in and let them know some guys may be coming in Sat. Morning for OOS licenses. I will put out balloons at the turns from US-9W and the turn right by my Dads house. I will be back, I gotta go cut he meat for dinner!! Shawn
-
Thanks everybody. I will bring my Seven Lakes longbow. Yes Shawn I got it back and am keeping it! Meat do you plan on going up Sat night ? I havent talked to Swamp this weekend. Shawn could you email your dads address ? last year I think Tom and took some wrong turns. Also what is a good time to get there Saturday night ? Not sure what time lights out is. Are you having a campfire ?
-
Bob, I think the plan is that the three of us are riding together. I can go whenever I am flexable like a rubber band.
-
Imay do a campfire, I hav plenty of wood and a nice spot to do it!! So guys do you want a fire?? Anytime is fine, I would imagine we will be in bed anytime from 11 to mid-night, but we will leave a light on for ya, if you are later. The address is 16 Old School Rd. Selkirk NY 12158. If ya get off at exit 23 of the NYS T-way it is only two turns once you are on 9W. I will post directions from the the exit tomorrow!! That 7 Lakes is a sweet bow, and it has been on all the Trad-gang bunny hunts here in NY. It is shaping up as a real good hunt, could use some snow, but the weather is gonna be good either way. The bunnies better look out!!! OOOOOHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
Man Bob, Tom must have been lost because he said it takes 5.5 hours I would think you can make it in 4 or less but maybe I drive a little faster.
-
OK, I just saw Thunders post!! That kills me, but I will respect his wishes. We will donate any monies to the ST. Judes fund!! Meat, ya can do it in 4, pretty easy!! Shawn
-
Meat it was snowing like crazy when Tom and I drove it both ways ! Plus I think we took a long cut.
-
Bob, you guys should not have a problem. Type in the addy above and it should bring ya right to the door. It is cool you 3 wll be coming!! Tom, if ya bring Sonny, which you should, just let him pee before he comes in the house, he can sleep with you!! Shawn
-
I am bringing this up before bed. The Pro-Bowl is lousy and I am getting tired!! It is less than a week away and I am gonna explode!! OOOHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
OOOOHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!! Shawn
-
Here it comes, four more and a wakeup!!!!
David

Hooking up and traveling together would be great. Let me know where and when and I'll be there.
Ooooh Baby, it's gettin' close!!!!!
-
Shawn...looks like myself and Steve McDonald will be arriving around 7:45 am on Sunday. I don't want to hold up anyone if your planning on heading out earlier...is this too late or are we ok? If you don't shoot those flu-flu's at a 45 degree angle they wouldn't go so far!!! Toss the disk higher...Be talking to ya....
-
Hi, Joe.... I don't know whether Chuck is going at this point or not. I hope he still can. But, definitely. I can pick you up at your place for the trip. Never been.. so looking forward to it.
-
Steve,Joe, Should be able to let you guys know for sure Friday night. Still thinking possitive though, even got my fingers crossed!!! If I only knew where I put my Lucky Rabbit Foot LOL!!!!!
I'll be in touch, Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Joe, that will be fine, by the time we eat and shoot some to warm up, it will be 9 at least before we head out. I have some DIRECTIONS from exit 23 ofthe NYS Thru-way When you go thru the toll booth bare right and up unto Rte. 9W South, when you hit 9W it is exactly 5.6 miles to Creble Rd. Take a right an go exactly 1.5 miles to Old School Rd. take a left and look to your left, the airport is right there, my Dads place is 70yds. from the turn, it is a two story brown house. I will have ballons attached to some signs at each of those two intersections to give ya a heads up!! Anytime around 7am is fine, I will be there by 6:30. I should also say that there is a Wal-mart exactly 1.8 miles from when you exit the T-way and get on 9W, you can get licenses from there. I cannot wait it is getting close!! I will check in again shortly!!! OOOHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
OOOOHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!! Shawn
-
OOOOHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!! Shawn
-
Sounds good Shawn..Won't have any problems finding the place....been there twice. Looking forward to seeing everyone again...
-
Shawn:
I am bringing a bunch of cereal and milk and bread for breakfast on sunday and sat if people want it on Sat. Plus i will bring some more soda, we will probably go through soda pretty fast. Anything else you can think of that we might need?
Bryan
-
Bryan we should be in good shape food wise. If we need something we can go get it. It is getting warm here today, we had some snow last night but it will be gone today, 50 will do that. It is supposed to get cold the rest of the week and a chance for some snow on thurs,+ Friday. Saturday is gonna have a high of 25 and a low of 15 or so, Sunday has a chance of light snow, we will keep our fingers crossed. It is shaping up nicely!! Shawn

Bryan

Curt:
Don't let me forget to ask you about Conn. winter turkey archery regs. I am a little vague on. I will ask when I see you on Sat.
Thanks Bryan. Its getting close.........
Jeremy: you probably could help me also with this?
-
Lee, best wishes to your daughter and you!! We will miss ya!! Shawn
-
It is gonna rain tomorrow all day, which sucks!! We may not have any snow, so I hope ya all got good eyes, as the bunnies will be tough to see!! Still a chance for snow on Friday and inch or two would be awesome!! Shawn
-
Shawn, No snow is good AND bad for me!!! Can't hardly see the bunnies, that's bad!!! BUT... My arrows can't go skidding under the snow so HOPEFULLY I won't be loosing that many LOL!!!!! I still got my fingers crossed, but I still can't find that DANG RABBIT FOOT!!!
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
-
Bryan,
Yup, I can help. I'll pick up all the forms you'll need and a few copies of the new hunting guide.
A little bit of snow would be nice! I'm looking forward to finally putting some faces with the names! :)
-
Hey Lee,
All best wishes & thoughts for your daughter. Was lookin' forward to seeing you again. Maybe at Deerslayers if they have another one this year.
Larry
-
Shawn,

Larry
-
Lee,Hoping for a speedy recovery for your daughter. You will be missed!!
Bryan, you know more than me about it.To be honest I didn't even know there was one.But now ya got me real interested!!!!!
Lets talk I can't stop thinking about this weekend.Hard to work!!
-
Curt, I'm assuming Bryan is talking about the late section of the Fall season... it runs from Sept 15 to Nov 15 and then from Dec 21-31. You can harvest a total of 2 birds, either sex. Shoot me an PM if you have any specific questions.
-
Thanks Guys, I'll miss all those suicide committing bunnies. All the good conversation and eats. I'll really miss seeing old faces and meeting new. Have fun!!!!!!
I'll be there, if only in my mind! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
-
Yep, the December season interests me. I love hunting turks with a bow. So if i can find an extra season to hunt them I'm loving it. We can talk more on sat.
Thanks Bryan
-
I'm more intrested in hunting those big bucks ya got over there that time of yr. :scared: .Tough to see the bullet holes,(the white slash[in the dark branch] just above the arrows is where the bullet grazed my other leg, exit hole is about 4"above that)but you can see the reddish tint on the upper leg,OUCH!!!
4 Flu-Flu nutters, muskrat fur silencers I cut from a skin I tanned, and a wood arrow straightening "hook" I made out of a deer antler, and carved "trad gang bunny hunt '05".
-
Looks like I am going to miss out on this year's. I'm really bummed...I'm sure gonna miss the fun.
Work and family stuff is keeping me out of it.
Hope all have a great time...I'm soooo jealous!
To anyone going for the first time, man you are in for a good time!
Brian
-
Curt, nice stuff!! Are ya giving the pants away, if so I want them cause I will frame them. I think they are actually lucky pants, things coul;d of been a lot worse. The arrow straightener is real cool. Things are shaping up nicely, the weather is gonna turn real cold as well, at least we won't be huntin' in the mud and there is still some snow in the patches I hunt. It is gonna be like 10 degrees Sat. morning but warm up to 23-24 so that will make good huntin' weather. I cannot wait. I am getting the tables together and working on some type of gazebo to get under in case it is snowin!(LOL!!) Brian, sorry to here ya cannot make it , we walked out of that first piece together and that one bunny took us by surprise and neither of us got a shot, thats what we get for BS'in' !! OOOOOOHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
TOP!! Shawn
-
Picked up my out-of state license last night. Less than 3 days to blastoff!!!!!!!!!!
-
This week can't possibly go any slower!!
-
Shawn,it looks like we,ll be there around the 7:00 hour which is cool that way we,ll have some socializing time before snooooooozing.I,ll be bringin the same dish as last yr and the doz shafts I said I,d put on the table anything else ya need??
I,m gonna see about getting a bunch of 20 yrd single spot targets incase some guys would like to take them and give the 300 round a try. It,s kinda fun and definatley an eye opener to how good ya really are
-
If i shoot anything like i did at tollgate the wabbits don't have any worries.LOL...........ED
-
Does anyone who is coming to the hunt have a 58" recurve string.Dacron, cause i'm not sure if the bow is made for FF.It's 65#'s.
Maybe someone could make me string for it??I'll square up with ya when I see ya.
I just got a 58" 65# Grizzly in a trade and it came without a string.Looking forward to trying it out and letting anybody else try it if they want to.
Help me out boys :help:
-
Oh yea,Ed ,occording to the results ,it looks like you shot just fine!! Enough to win $50 :bigsmyl:
-
Curt:
I can make one for you, if you don't mind endless loop? Let me know, I will make it tonight. And right now I only have black.
bryan
-
Curt I have one on the bow I am givig away at the hunt. You can use it. I also have a couple other 58"ers but they may be FF. I can tell if I look close at them. We are on the final turn!! Shawn
-
Unfortunately I don't have much to put on the table. I do have a good number of feed bags if anyone wants me to bring some for making "stuff" targets.
Curt if no one comes up with a string I have some Dacron in my kit and will make one up for you when we get there. I am not the best string maker but I do make my own.
-
Shawn--I have a new Gerber Hunting knife for the table......Mark
-
Curt, I'll twist a string up for you. What colors do you want?
-
Like I said in an earlier post, the table is not that important. Mark the knife, Joes arrows, a bow that I am gonna have everyone sign, and some of the other nice stuff, broadheads and what not I am gonna sell raffle tickets and we will donate the money to St. Judes. The prize table will have , some gloves, points, mini knives, and a bunch of trinkets just to get something if ya braek a ballon, or hit an aeriel. We are not gonna have much snow, but it will be cold so it won't be muddy. The bunnies better look out either way!! OOOOHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
Two more days!!!! Shawn, I have Monday off, and a bunch of vacation time left over from last year, you might just have trouble getting me to leave.
David
-
I need to win one of the gloves I lost my #1 glove in a cyprus swamp in florida a couple weeks ago and after trudging through the swamp (crotch deep at times) then having to tread water while taking care of some "personal business" I wasn't about to turn around and go look for it. I am just glad it wasn't summer and the snakes weren't out.
-
Meat, not that type of glove, these are hunting gloves, although there is a large leather pair ya could use. David, I have Monday off too and will be hunting then as well!! Shawn
-
Wow,you guys are the best!!!
Bryan, Thanks Bud,please don't take this wrong, but I would rather have a flemish.I appreciate it though  .
Hook,I'd like to watch ya make one.If ya don't mind bringing your stuff. You can make a 60"er for my old Schafer. If ya don't feel like bringing your stuff:thumbsup:
Jeremy, Color doesn't matter at all.Like I said,I just got the bow, just want to try it out. Thanks
Ok,another situation came up today.Does anybody have a half dozen 5/16th field pts.they can bring for me?Again,we can square up this weekend. Thanks guys
-
Curt,I have some points will bring them with me glue on,s right?......ED
-
Curt...did you pick up the shafts/feathers/nocks tonight? When I left for work around 5:20, they were still in my shop...
-
Yes Ed,5/16th glue on,Thanks
Got um Joe,Thanks But,I need to switch those feathers for any thing rt wing.I don't have a lt wing fletcher anymore. Can ya leave something for me,I'll bring the others back.I'll call ya today bud.Joe,do you have any 5/16th fld pts???
-
Are ya shooting 5/16ths off the new bow? Are ya ready for some bunny huntin??? OOOOOHHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!! Shawn
-
Curt:
Nothing taken wrong at all. That is why I said endless. I know alot of people like flemish best. I just like the performance of endless better, so that is all I learned to make. A personal choice just like arrows and bows.
Bryan
-
Just a reminder it is gonna be cold to start off 8-10 degrees, buyt by the time we get huntin' it will be 20-25 degrees and that is warm when ya are waling and gruntin' thru the thick stuff, so dress in layers so ya can take stuff off!! Shawn
-
Well were getting down to the wire now :D Shawn a campfire would be nice, might help to keep things down to a mild roar in your parents house.
Do you have a glue as to the count? After over 300 posts I'm loseing track  Will bring 2 cases pop some chips and pepper sticks & summer suasage from my deer. Melinda's got some muffens and brownies. Looks like we'll be there about 10:00 Sat. am
-
No Shawn,I'm not shooting 5/16 shafts They are for someone else.
-
Yeah, how many Sat. and then Sun.???
Awful quiet here :(
-
I will be there around 7-730 on Sat. And Sun.
Bryan
-
It does seem quiet, but from what I have seen and heard it should be about the same as last year 20-25 people, but it does seem quiet. I have not heard from some guys who said they would be there earlier in the thread. I still figure a good turn out for both days. I also want to say i picked up another 100 acres, I have hunted it before and Curt has too, but I spoke to the farmer tonigt and he gave me the go ahead, so that is cool. It is right down the road by the house. We are getting snow flurries. Okay, I as I was typing this I did a count and we will have at least 17 and I am pretty sure I missed some, then Saturday night, we will have Swamp, Meat, and Bob coming in and Joe, woodchucker, and a few more. It is lookin' good. We have plenty of wood and hay bales to sit on, we can build a nice Bon-Fire Saturday night, we may be able to shoot some at night too!! I cannot wait!! OOOHHHHH YEAHHHHH!! Shawn
-
I figure we will shoot and such until around noon, as some are not gonna arrive until 10 or so which is good. I have a spot close to the house to hunt and than another nottoo far, everyone remembers that one, it is the first spot we hunted last year. I figure that will get us through the first day and sunday we will hunt all around the house. I think the numbers will be good, forty guys would just be too many to try and hunt. We are getting flurries and I am hoping for a tad bit of snow, but there is some in the woods so the bunnies better watch out!! I will be at my parents around 7am, I will put the coffee on. I have the tables set and we cleared the living room and the porch for sleeping, for the guys who are staying the night, one more day and a two nights and we are there!! OOOOOHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHH!! Shawn
-
One more day of work, and here I come!!!! Seriously, I have been waiting for this since you had last years hunt, and I thank you Shawn, along with your parents for organizing this again and welcoming us into your home. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.
David
-
David, me too!! I just hope it goes well, not much I can do about it, but to kill some bunnies would be icing on the cake, the best part is just seeing everyone and hanging out!! OOOOHHHH YEAHHHHH! Shawn
-

See you guys about 7 or a little after. Shawn How many dogs will there be. Bad news my beagle cut a`huge gash this morning in his right paw. Took 10 stitches to sew it up. So he is sore is an understatement, not to mention my wallet soreness for the vet bill. Anyways the vet said it looked like it was barbed wire and he would not be able to run for a couple weeks. So he won't be coming and he was doing so good, I missed 2 rabbits before he hurt himself. Oh well, see you tomorrow.

I am beat but will say two day shot total 82, and yes 1 bunny. We got 37 shots yesterday and 45 today. We raised $300 for St. Judes and had a blast. A lot more to come, the dog just got back and I am getting in the bath. Thanks to everyone who came, you guys and Mo made it really special. Shawn
-
I am home and what a great time as usual. The rabbit was a tag team effort between Wapati Chaser and Guru. Great shooting guys. Well I am Going to go and get ready for work.
Bryan
-
It was an incredible two days. Guys started arriv by 7 on Saturday and continues to show up until everyone was there by 10 or so. We warm up by shooting some and then we stared some fun shooting. We shot the arrow munching steel nd attempted to break a ballon by shooting thru a 3.5" hole in the steel, needless to say there was a lot of busted up arrows, but several balloons were also broken, we then moved on to some aerials. Mark Fedrizzi was all over them and several others hit them as well, if ya hit a balloon or an aeriel you picked a prize from our table, nocks, knives, guttin' glove, blunts, you name it. We then shot some rolling disks to simulate bunnies, again Mark was right on, then on to some long range stuff. I will let someone else pick it up from here and bring us to to lunch. OOOOOOHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHH!!! Shawn
-
...............Thanx again Shawn..............
-
Mark, you should of been there today you could of emptied your quiver standing in the same spot as yesterday. That is where Bob(Wapati Chaser) killed the bunny. We shot 45 times today and got hair twice plus the one dead guy!!I will be back in the morning to tell some more stories, like Bryan losing ten bucks to Curt on Curts ability to shoot long range!(LOL!!) We threw it in the St. Judes pot!! Shawn
-
Sounds like a great time again today. Can't wait to hear more :saywhat:
-
I know there are a coupl ethreads going, but I hope when all is said and done, we can get them combined for the 2005 highlights!!! Shawn
