Made it home this weekend and after 4 trips of DIY hunts on Colorado's public land, I finally brought down an elk with my longbow. This year we actually did a dropcamp in the San Juan area. I was blessed to have great teamwork with a friend and my 15 year old son. It was actually my son who remained cool and cow called at the right times to bring him close to 20yards for the shot. Was really a fantastic moment as the bull came bugling in with the wind holding perfect! Here are some pics with our elk and my son Zach. Thought you might enjoy.

Way to go Zach. I know how difficult it is to guide a father as I still have to guide mine quite a bit. A great accomplishment calling in such a fine bull for your Dad and getting him to be still long enough to get a good shot off.
Nice job Chris on closing the deal and not wasting your guides efforts ;)
-
Awesome Thanks For sharing!!!!!
-
yahoooooooooo!!!! Congrats and enjoy that great venison!
-
:bigsmyl:
Congratulations to the both of you.

Thanks everyone for the congrats. Someone asked about tackle - I have always hunted with my own self or BBO bows. Built a BBO bow for this purpose of 65#. I also picked up a used Robertson longbow of 60# as a backup which worked well since it was the same length (64")and very similar grip. Ended up needing to use the backup. Arrows were cedar with 2 blade magnus.
I'm betting on having good hunting partners for as long as I can keep going.(Pic from several years back- Zach is the oldest on far left) (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/tc80710/kidswithrattanbows.jpg)
